KCF0107 04/15/22 3:35:12 PM #216 | 9. Kaito I think that Kaito could have worked out very well in a limited comic relief role as a hyper-focused, over-the-top goofball that he sometimes exhibits. Elevating him to a share of the spotlight once Kaede left was ultimately not the right move. He had the larger personality to potentially fit, and it sometimes worked, but they didn't wield it responsibly, often to the detriment of my enjoyment. Yeah, I get that the Luminary of the Stars is the one people look to for inspiration and renewed vigor, but stop derailing my investigations and trials with the same cookie-cutter convictions ad nauseam that only serve to disrupt the pacing and mood. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/15/22 3:04:17 PM #215 | 10. Angie Of all the characters in the game, Angie probably had the least variance to her. It is to her advantage then that she was just outgoing and chipper the entire game with few exceptions. She sometimes couldn't read the room, so her occasionally ill-timed cheerful outbursts were a bit funny. Unfortunately, the only other aspect to her personality was her devotion to the mysterious Atua, and she injected that in almost every conversation, including multiple times in a single discussion. That bit got old fast. The moment her role was elevated to be a potential secondary antagonist, she was predictably killed, and that was the end of that. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/15/22 2:43:43 PM #214 | 11. Maki In a high plot, low character work of fiction like Danganronpa, the key is usually to find suitable roles for the cast. Kaz and Aoi each placed second on previous lists despite being random backups because their agreeable personalities worked well for moral support and also in the forefront when the need arised. Maki is just simply ill-fitting as the female leading replacing Kaede. Her archetype of a cold, distant girl who became more proactive in the group's survival as the killing game progressed didn't do much for me on its own, but the weird thing is how Maki didn't actually do much. Once there was a murder, she might have been present, but she kind of faded into the background as Shu carried both the investigation and trial portions. To be honest, none of the female archetypes were suitable to replace Kaede. Kirumi and Tsu probably come the closest, but really it should have just been Keebo. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/15/22 2:33:01 PM #213 | 12. Rantaro I don't think that I can place him any higher given. While other first victims placed much higher, they were utilized differently with Rantaro mostly existing a tease with a mysterious background and knowledge of prior events. V3 also really just focused on Shu and Kaede in the beginning, so he was given less of a chance to stand out. He seemed like he could have been pretty chill, but "could have" is the operative phrase here. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/15/22 12:31:47 AM #207 | So I played the Salmon Team mode, and it was basically like the other post-game modes from previous games. Without the item grinding though, there's nothing to break up the monotony. Well, technically I am forced to enter the casino at night, but I can only play one game, which is just weird. I also tried to card development game. I successfully went around the board in time, but then I got surgery and lost all my levels and play just resumed, so I have no idea how that mode is supposed to end or anything. KCF0107 04/14/22 5:49:19 PM #203 | 13. Gonta Everything about Gonta screams that he was the final character they decided on as they just simply ran out of ideas. A Tarzan character in the 2010s? You knew what he was going to say from a mile away as well as the antiquated jokes involving him. He was also useless with investigations and the trials. KCF0107 04/14/22 5:30:29 PM #199 | 14. Tsumugi My bottom three were pretty much set in stone for the last few chapters, so what I originally was going to say for Tsu was simply, "The best thing you can say about her is that she exists." That still applies to her for 98% of the game, but the other 2% is her being a generic delusional person, so in the end, nothing changed. I will add that the reveal of her being the mastermind could have made any sort of impression if they gave her character more of a presence throughout the game. I get that was the point of this intending to be "a shock," but they went way too hard and explicit in the invisible and unassuming route with her. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/14/22 5:21:37 PM #195 | As a foreword, characters will be ranked on their personality, entertainment value, and how they were utilized in the game. 16. Kokichi While he provided more enterainment value than numerous others that will rank toward the bottom, there was nowhere to put Koki but last for he is Danganronpa in character form. He is built on a foundation of lies and terrible concepts that the game somehow confuses this unmerited obsfucation as something that is compelling and astute but in reality was poorly designed and inadequately handled from the start, making everything involving him feeling contrived, confounding, and frustrating. He takes on the role that Byakuya and Nagito had in previous games as someone who is largely uncooperative despite having the same goal as everyone else. Unlike those two, everything about Kiko, even the very concept of him on a practical and theoretical level, just seems like a massive misfire for the core of these games. KCF0107 04/14/22 7:00:12 AM #186 | These are my game rankings: Goodbye Despair > Killing Harmony > Trigger Happy Havoc If I were to replay GD now, it is possible that I would rank it below KH given I am now seven years older and maybe some of the stuff I appreciated from that I wouldn't feel the same at this point in my life, but I doubt it my rankings would change. If they were to make another DR, I'm probably not going to get it. They're just not worth my time. Case rankings: 4 > 2 > 1 > 5 > 3 I'm not including six because it is not like the others, but I would probably rank it last for being mostly boring and too long. Cases 2 and 4 were the clear highlights of the game and are probably Top 5 in the series. 1 would have been good if they didn't insult the player and straight up lie to you. 5 and 3 were missed opportunities and just underwhelming kind of. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/14/22 6:53:25 AM #185 | *insert Jack Nicholson nodding gif again* Don't you love it when the antagonist is undone because they left vital clues lying around their lair, such as a murder weapon in the trash can or a bloody piece of equipment just sitting on a table, when they had ample time to dispose of throughout the entire game? When they began talking about the meaning behind all of this, I was actually starting to get very excited. I don't know what it was specifically that triggered this, but I truly believed that they were going to make the whole point of this a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating joke that all absurd nonsense from these games were just them trying to be as silly and entertaining as possible with no rhyme or reason why they did things from moment-to-moment, game-to-game. Then the realization hit me that my hopes were dashed, and then they turned it into a dramatic affair in which they brought up hope vs despair AGAIN, and then droned on and on and on until they finally shut up. Then the game ended in the most frustrating manor by pondering what was a lie and what was real. How the fuck should I know, you tell me? While not the worst conclusion, it is far from good, especially since they didn't officially confirm that this whole remants of despair, tragic whatever fucking event, and all that really dumb preposterous shit wasn't fake. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/13/22 5:22:51 AM #179 | And with that, the presumably final trial is upon me. Prior to starting the trial, I have no idea what we are to accomplish here, but I'm guessing uncovering the mastermind? Before that though, some things stood out to me, and they deal with the first case. Shu mentioned upon seeing the photos taken in the library during the murder that there exposed a lie. To be honest, I have no idea what Shu saw. I tried to discern things from the shadows, but I simply found nothing. My guess then is it has to do with the tablet sticking out, but I honestly don't know what the difference it being his normal table or his map tablet would make. Now, while I don't know anything about that, I assume that the reason is important is because it changes what we know about the first case. If that is the implication, then that means they get to make it so good girl Kaede was never a murderer. *Gags*. Anyway, due to the game's poorly implemented unreliable narrator using Kaede, I have no idea how many shot put balls she took. If the she took just one, and the one with the pink fiber was hers as the fiber came from her bag/clothing, then she's not the murderer plain and simple. This would obviously be big because that would mean that the killing game and its rules are a sham, or something to that effect. More importantly though, if it wasn't Kaede, then who killed Rantaro? I have to assume it is someone still in this game, and because of the girl's bathroom path, then you basically have three suspects. The key though is that there was a minor remark made earlier where Shu realized that the key card reader was only on the library side, and thus the hidden room side could just open it, and it would not disturb the dust trap that was set in the beginning. This would mean that it is likely that the culprit opened the Monokuma door from the hidden room and threw a shu\ot put ball from there. That would vindicate my belief from way back that the blood splatter on the book case doesn't match if it was dropped from above. What was happening at this time was Kaito set up a meeting to take down the Monokumas. Maki and Himiko were at that meeting, so that leaves only one suspect, Tsu. See that, super feel good motivational Kaito's actions at the beginning will be the reason why this group will undoubtedly uncover the culprit (*groans*). They kind of laid it on a little thick with the Tsu is invisible and plain bit, so honestly this revelation, if I'm right, wasn't exactly set up for great shock value. Anyway, if Tsu is the culprit and mastermind, then she disregarded the rules of Junko and is not a true Remant of Despair or whatever, I don't know where they will go with it once that happens. The point is that I believe that Tsu murdered Rantaro and is the mastermind of this killing game. They probably didn't show her face with the Junko silhouette because of the...*sighs*... cospox. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/13/22 5:02:27 AM #178 | There's some vault in Rantaro's lab. I quickly remembered the twins, aka Gemini, bit found on the wall in the back building structure, but it took me a little bit to remember horse a for the other part of the solution. For some inexplicable reason, Shu and Himiko had a conversation explaining the solution to this very minor puzzle in full detail that I had just solved. This contained the self-message from Rantaro that doesn't exactly help. He's the ultimate survivor. That's a pretty vague term, so I am seeing absolutely no practical or narrative reason to hide that other than that's simply par the course for the series. If anything, they robbed themselves of an ironicly funny moment when the first person to die was considered to be the best at surviving. Kaede apparently has a twin. I don't know why it was brought up that Junko also had a twin when I saw her die AND the smoldering remains of her corpse. At long last, we are at the library...and Keebo just blasted the door open. That's what we spent five chapters and numerous deaths for, the moment the plot would allow Keebo to use his bodily functions. There's a shot put ball with pink fibers on it. HMMM. I will talk about that later. Rantaro had a map of the school as a perk, so I guess that is how he knew of the library door. I figured that the blood on his tablet had to be his, but everyone is acting like they aren't sure of the source of blood. I didn't realize that the time limit on the screen wasn't just for show. I ran out of time twice through this whole investigation. What I'm gathering from this bit about the flashback lights is that they can be truths or lies. Why do I even bother...Anyway, there's a way to the room beyond the library through the girl's bathroom, and it isn't on Rantaro's map. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 04/13/22 4:49:27 AM #177 | Noooooo, not Makoto! It doesn't look or sound like him from what I remember, so maybe this is a coincidence or in a less ideal situation, his son. Oh god, please don't tell me he is affiliated with Keebo. So we have ignored this for tmany chapters now, but are we ever going to deal with the library door again? Did we even try using the key card from chapter four on it or did everyone unanimously agree that they like a challenge and decided to take on this killing game problem the hard way, and by that I mean letting the vast majority of the characters to die in lieu of making novel and obvious choices that have a chance of paying off? At Koki's lab, which is more like a silly version of the bat cave, I'm not sure what to make of this claim of inconsistencies upon reading the Hope's Peak history. Is it that during a deadly pandemic and civil war, someone, and my eyes are set on Makoto, decided that the best course of action and use of resources was to open up a school, or something else related to the timeline of events? Koki's gang was a 10-member crew called D.I.C.E. that played pranks and committed petty non-violent crimes. Okay, that is actually funny. Ugh, that is definitely Makoto in the flashback video, and he's I guess the principal of this new Hope's Peak, so I guess their times at school were separated by decades. I also saw the implied shot of his hair suggesting that Keebo is modeled after Makoto. Keebo, I view you in a positive light, and I'd hate for my totally reasonable and rationale dislike toward Makoto to affect how I see you when this is all said and done. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |
