I used to think this was egregious too but thinking it over it kind of makes sense when almost all of them take place in a medieval setting. Yakuza is like one of the few that doesn't and they have more realistic ages.

Low life expectancy in medieval times was caused by sky high infant mortality rates, not by people being ancient at age 40. People who made it past their first year or so tended to live into their 60s or 70s on average, younger than now but not by anywhere near enough to make JRPG ages make sense.

In fairness, she was intended to be able to kill the pegs - the 2x effectiveness thing was changed in the international release, the original version of the game has the usual 3x effectiveness, which does give her the damage to one shot them. On the flip side she's still shooting one enemy per turn and thus falling behind in levels anyway and even when she's up to date in levels she would still be bad...

A special shout out needs to be given to FE7 though, where reduced effective damage means Archers can't even one-round Pegasus without considerable investment, which is like their whole entire niche

Eh, they can pull this off pretty easily, but that's because the enemy Pegasus Knights in FE7 are atrocious. Like, the boat map features Pegasus Knights with 0 AS. The issue with Pegasus Knights is that Rebecca doesn't OHKO the early game ones in HHM (she generally doesn't even do enough damage for Eliwood to kill, it needs to be her + Lowen/axe guy), and Wil needs to gain strength in Lyn Mode to be able to OHKO the ones on his join map with a Steel Bow, and only if they roll low on HP/Def. If you actually use them they can handle one wyvern rider per turn later on, but actually using them is a colossal pain when their base performance is so terrible and the payoff is so mediocre.

They're good in Three Houses. Very good in Echoes, albeit it takes a while and you need to know what to do (forge a Killer Bow ASAP because they're mediocre without it). Sniper is a fairly good class in FE12 because of its high speed cap and how you can't just mow things down easily on enemy phase. Other than that generally no. There have been individual bow users who are good but usually despite the class, not because of it. Only real exception is Binding Blade where the Snipers are both solid units and one of the two nomads is great (the other is also decent), but the unpromoted archers are both still hot garbage.

You have Seliph, Ares and Leif no matter what, as well as Oifey to carry early on. Nanna also does the important part of her job regardless of father. The kids you can modify are almost all just the backup brigade, only a couple can ever be serious difference makers.

Man with all my inexperience and after spending a full day telling Kirby he's making flawed statements; anyone saying I should have seen Chris being third party here, now that's a flawed.

Everything looks different if Chris doesn't get to night kill as Bulbasaur too. Everything. I might have died too then, but I certainly begin to suspect then. I wasn't as hard on Kirby as it seemed though knowing he was town he was being too sure about some dumb things probably. I looked at setup and everything and I couldn't piece together Chris being scum. The 1 kill a night was too perfect for me to consider third party at that point. An SK might not be as obscure as what I was trying to figure out, but it sure required way more conditionals to be there. Not bad at all, I'm sure watching such is frustrating knowing the truth, but jeez, take off those 20/20 hindsight glasses. This is before considering I have nothing to compare his play to. He played great but as he said himself; super lucky too lol.

People are wrong about rule 1 of b8 mafia. They think it means "If Chris lives more than a few days he's scum". It doesn't, that's rule 2. Rule 1 is "everything is always obvious after the game is over". There's never been a single good scum/indy play in the history of b8, just bad towns failing to know what the dead town totally knew before the host told them.

Oh yeah I would echo starting with one of the GBA games, they're easy to get into and straight forward. I would suggest Sacred Stones, it doesn't have the stand out bad maps that FE7 has or the awkward "no item use in prep menu" thing Binding Blade has. Also lets you start on its hard mode from the first playthrough, which is not going to be hard for anyone who has played a Fire Emblem before but is more engaging than FE7 normal mode which is a joke.

It's been so long I don't remember. Can the Red Chocobos cast meteor or something?

They have Choco Meteor, which is decently strong, has a ton of range and bypasses evasion. The Red Chocobos also have very high speed and move, so they can walk up and pelt you from a huge distance away, then retreat on their next turn while attacking again and then repeat. If you've leveled up a lot that battle becomes brutal (this is one of the two or three mandatory battles with level scaling for enemies) if you get a lot of Red Chocobos spawning (it's a bit random), especially if you use a lot of slower/lower range classes.

Like how Magus goes from having 6666 HP as a boss, then has HP in the hundreds when he joins you? Yeah, this one drives me nuts.

I mean, he may lose a ton of HP but his damage also goes up, and in the long run gets way higher than it ever was an enemy. This is more of a function of the fact that JRPG combat systems almost always have enemies with tons of health but low damage and players with the opposite than anything else.

Characters dying and coming back to life, and basically any time you do fake out deaths where you try to milk the emotions of a death scene where the other characters react like it was real only to pull the rug out from under it later. All it does is make me not want to bother paying attention to the story because I don't expect anything it shows me to matter, I assume it will just backtrack on anything serious/negative it suggests as a possibility so I don't give a shit. I realized just how sick I am of this kind of shit in stories recently when I played a game with an actual character death and I barely even acknowledged it until after the fact because I'm so used to seeing a character seemingly die and having it be just a cheap way to try to create drama without doing something actually dramatic.

Also silent protagonists are generally bad. The ones who get enough dialogue choices aren't so bad (I don't mind the Persona ones too much because while they do strain credibility a lot, at least they do say stuff several times in pretty much every conversation so it never feels like they're just total non-entities) though still not ideal, but in general the problem is silent protagonists break the world they're in by having no one respond to them properly. The whole "self-insert" thing doesn't work at all because they're still clearly pre-defined characters - they always do the same things, make the same decisions, have whatever nebulous personality traits make the other party members like them and their enemies dislike them, etc. They just don't have any of their dialogue shown so you don't get to see much about who they are, or in the cases of the ones who don't even get treated as if they are saying things you don't get to hear/see you're left wondering why no one around them ever comments on them never talking.

We laugh at this now but I really do think that in a year or two the media will have succeeded in mostly rehabilitating her image. As soon as the trial isn't fresh in people's minds articles that gloss over her abusive behaviour and talk about how it must be suspicious that people were happy about a woman who told her story of receiving horrible abuse losing in court won't get the same immediate pushback they get now and they'll help ensure that in the long run people will just kind of remember it as the trial where poor Amber Heard got called a liar just because she wasn't a total saint. I hope I'm wrong but I don't really expect to be.
