Yeah. I didn't understand why it was there. Interview is for a .net position, I just think the last time the manager did anything back end was in the old days of vb. Still really weird seeing end using, end function etc and not having braces or semicolons

Just did a interview test this morning. Had a section of code in VB. I understand that it's just there to make sure you can read/write in crappy languages and with stuff you're not familiar with, but I still feel like I need a shower.

Mostly the issue I have is there is a LOT of overhead in making microX resilient and performant when you add more services. Done badly, with a ton of httpRequests, your software becomes less available AND less consistent. Bad stuff all around.

I've successfully pushed back against micro-everything in every organization I've worked for so far. Readability and performance are so adversely impacted as to make it not worth it in my opinion.

I always find it funny when people try to learn to program what they put their focus on. I've been doing this just slightly less long than mattymad and to me the hardest thing in all of software is creating and running a new project because it's the thing you do the least in enterprise software.

This is definitely true, and probably something that works against me because the majority of games I play are pretty dated.

If you want viewers, don't stream new stuff. Stream moderately old, niche games with active Fandom like Isaac, xcom, spire, don't starve, etc.

I occasionally stream stuff I play, not often. I used to stream regularly to an average of 10-12 viewers. Now I get viewers if I'm casting dota, but not much else.

I haven't used python since college. Very unpleasant language imho.

Windows is fine, and Visual Studio is an incredible IDE. I'm pretty sure I'm about 6x faster/more productive with VS as I am with any other IDE. Yes, some of it is familiarity bias, but as a developer I've never had anything be a problem with using windows except for if I'm coding something for IOS, which why would I do that anyways? The only other problem I've had is when my company locked down the BIOS so I couldn't enable hardware acceleration for android development, but that's because my company is stupid, not because windows is bad.

Randomly flipping from single or double quotes is still ambiguously more readable than slashes everywhere. Keep in mind that some languages (hey there, php) can get flaky about escapes inside of singlequotes.

php isn't a language, it's an abomination.

Yes. Dota 2 is genuinely free + cosmetics, and has regular drops of some of those for free. No tangible gain from buying.

I haven't played GG, but there's a couple things that are pretty common/universal.

Understand your game's system - I'm pretty sure that GG is chain-based, so your combos are going to be more forgiving as long as you don't whiff.
Learn what you use each of your buttons for, (combo starter, punish, poke, dashcheck, anti-air).
Work on your execution (supers, BnB combos, be able to do 1 or 2 combos in your sleep from different starters).

Go into matches and start learning what scenarios the things you've worked on work for, and what scenarios you get beat by. Start iterating on whether you are choking under pressure, or getting opened up, or missing anti-airs, or dropping combos, etc.

I'm trying to genericize the formula for how many triangles should exist as a function of how large the containing triangle is, but it's a little rough.

It's obvious that the number of small triangles = L^2, but from there it gets a little more tricky.

I was at a Montessori school from grades 5-7. Wish I'd had it earlier. Very good system if it's well suited to the personality, and if the staff are good.

my gf and I are both big dota fans. We were pretty disappointed in S2 and I was pretty unenthusiastic about S3, but it completely blew me away.

After the disaster that was book 2, I 'm very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the 3rd season. Anyone else watch it on netflix?

I like the border/boundary between suburb and city. Not like exurbs, but pittsburgh has a lot of really walkable neighborhoods with single family row homes, and that's something I like.

about $50. maybe $100 for the right form factor. I use wireless only when I'm working out or walking, at home everything is wired that can be wired..

My take on Homelander is he's consistently been in this weird realm of being effectively age 9 or so emotionally. Yeah, there's some of the creepy sexual shit, but overall he's basically an emotional child who has temper tantrums, views people as his toys, and breaks them just like a child would when he's having a tantrum. I mean, it's obvious who he's supposed to be a parody of in a lot of ways, but overall it's just giving me the impression of being written as an overgrown child.

I also kinda like Mikael Stanne. He's far from the best vocalist, but has a certain rawness to his voice that fits the 90s DT vibe.

Speed from Soilwork is great too, very unique style of voice. Not competing for my #1 slot, but definitely a top 20.
