I'll be real; I highly doubt I'll ever get into the anime(s?) or any extra stuff like that. I'll probably just stick with the mainline 3 games and call it good. I really like the first game and the story so far, but I'm not a super huge anime dude in general, so this is altready a little out of my wheelhouse as it is.

To be honest, the DR3 anime might be the only important thing, but even then it's not necessary if you're just playing the games.

Might be worth playing Ultra Despair Girls. It's relevant in some parts as well, though ultimately if you're skipping the anime you don't really need UDG either.

Great game, sad to hear it's out of print. At least you can get it digital.

This entire franchise was a wild ride. I had to not look up ANYTHING about this franchise until I was done, and even then some asshat in a Youtube comment spoiled some death from a future game unprovoked when it was just music from the first game.

I have confidence that those are just like early game lines she says during cutscenes. Granted, they're not as annoying to me as it might be to other people, but it would be pretty bad if they constantly had her quipping. She's not Spider-Man.

I praised Xenoblade 1's voice acting, but it seems like the developers took the wrong takeaway with why I liked it (not just because it's all british accents) and for sequel added ridiculous over the top scottish accents and possible irish accents and whatnot that are the equivalent of bad american dubs of animes

It's funny, they brought back Vandham's voice actor from 2, but it seems like his accent is more subdued when he talks. Like you can tell he's Australian still but it's not wacky-sounding. I wonder if he was told in 2 to overexaggerate his accent.

Careful guys with potential spoiler talk, TC said he's very early in the game still.

But as for voice acting, it's tons better than in 2. It still has a wide variety of accents though, it's just that voice acting is more believable.

I agree. Especially Mio's scene where she blew up on Noah, and Noah being an absolute idiot and saying 'You agreed to this.' I'm only at the start of Chapter 5, but good lord that hit hard.

Chapter 5 in general is a hard-hitting one, brace yourself.

They're...not nearly as important as some people have predicted, so you might be fine with starting at 3. All you'd miss is some fanservice (not the sexy stuff) from old locations and a couple characters if you're familiar with the previous games. (You can guess who those characters are if you've seen the trailers, it's fine.)

As much as I'd love for Smash Ultimate to get a rollback netcode overhaul...it's not gonna happen. At least not on the Switch. So many multiplatform fighting games are getting rollback netcode...except the Switch versions because of "technical issues."

The best thing we can hope for with that is a port for the next Nintendo console with some improvements.

From my understanding it was just a mess with horrid and laggy UI, bad quest design, no dungeons, some weird system that limited the amount of level-ups you could do within a week, and just not enough content to justify it being an MMO to begin with.

They've been focusing a bit too much on production values over making a good game most of the time.

Luckily FFVII Remake was good, barring a couple plot fuckeries.

Is there a level breaking cheat like how in Xenoblade 1 you could instantly jump to level 50 at the beginning of the game by going through a wall that leads to an advanced area that grants you millions of exp for discovering it? Any gamebreaking cheats like that to make the game super easy would go a long way for my enjoyment of the game.

Haven't seen anything about a level breaking exploit, but the game is pretty easy to overlevel if you're doing side content regardless.

*SPOILERS FOR XENOBLADE 3...KINDA*

It's not plot spoilers, but someone found out a way to literally make your party invincible. The main character gets an "attack" for his starting class that changes his stance to more powerful attacks, as well as grants invincibility for a short period of time (like around 10 seconds, enough to evade a powerful attack if you can see it coming). There is also a class with an ability to transfer buffs on self to the rest of the party, and if the main character has mastered this class he can use that ability. There is ALSO an ability you can put on another character that pauses all buff timers so you can have the buffs for longer. See where I'm going with this?

Xenoblade's been able to be broken wide open when it comes to their battle systems (they've never been seen as "balanced" for this reason) but allowing literal invulnerability that can last for the entire battle seems like something that will be patched. Like, making it so that invincibility doesn't count as a buff would be enough (I'm fairly sure that's the only ability in the game that gives invincibility).

If there's only one small complaint I have with the game though, is that it's a little too restrictive for the first handful of hours. Super intrusive tutorials, and doesn't let you explore much beyond where the story takes you, even though you totally should be able to. But by Chapter 3 that's when the game truly opens up and shines brilliantly.

And Game Informer's the outlier in reviews, btw. I take reviews as a collective and most reviews said the game's absolutely excellent.

Impressive but still insane

It's actually 50-60 hours if you just rush the story, which is what I did. I was just so invested in the story I wanted to see it through. I'll be going back in another time to do a full playthrough and take my time with it.

No spoilers, but I have just beaten the game. This game is strong in every aspect.

Yeah, I heard they might've overcorrected after how people complained about the tutorials in XC2. The Training Drills are awesome, but there's no need to be hand-held through menu features step by step.

It's complicated. They each have their own story and characters but in the end they're all linked together in some way. X seems to be its own thing right now, though it does contain cheeky little references and easter eggs of 1.

I've read that you can certainly jump into 3 as your starting point and can understand the story perfectly fine, it's just that some references and other story elements would be enhanced if you had experience with the other games. And...I feel like there may be spoilers involving a couple of characters, regardless.

The way sadfutago's vids are constructed it has to be some sort of secret viral marketing. He deliberately does things for the sake of mystery, like immediately clicking off the file he picked up, intentionally keeping the Japanese text on-screen so people can translate it, intentionally not picking any correct answers from that riddle...

I'm convinced that this is marketing for the Switch version and it has more added content than was initially advertised.

Absolutely can't wait for this game. Reviewing rather well, and I've been a big fan of the series since the first game.

IIRC if you get it all in one lump sum the taxes is like half the winnings, but if you get it in chunks you have to pay less overall.

Huh, didn't think of that. The username of the guy who "found" this is referencing the twins that you have to fight in the game...maybe this is a secret they added to the Switch release (it already has exclusive costume content) and they're teasing it in a weird way.

What's your point? The original NieR was indeed pretty janky, and the re-release didn't drastically overhaul the gameplay. It made it a lot better, but Automata's still better in the gameplay department.

Either way this hidden room/church stuff is wild. It either has to be a secretly well-done mod (that even the modding community thinks is close to impossible to do right now) or he carefully crafted a fangame that looks just like the game to show off some fake secret. Or CG animation to make it look like the game. Or it could actually be in the game and you have to do something super obscure to make it appear, since this doesn't show up if you glitch out-of-bounds.

The even weirder part is that one of the devs of Automata had a mysterious message regarding this, neither confirming or dispelling this.

If the game offers postgame content to begin with, it kinda needs to have more substantial stuff than four enemies.

XC2 after its updates and DLC offered like 10 superbosses, the option to play NG+ on a much harder difficulty, as well as a much more difficult Challenge Mode, which was amazing.

Like sure, if that's not your thing you don't have to engage in it, just like doing 10 NG+ runthroughs of Souls games doesn't appeal to me. But with how absurdly broken you can make your characters become in Xenoblade it's nice to have some endgame/postgame stuff to test all that out on. XC1 was the outlier in having not enough content, ironically enough.
