Kamekguy 02/19/22 5:54:14 PM #46 | Toxtricity . I like pretty much all of 'em, though, each have either a fun gameplay gimmick or show off some fun personality in design. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | Rate the VG Story Day 249: Super Mario Sunshine |
Kamekguy 02/18/22 9:03:31 PM #7 | 7 Honestly I kind of love it. The main plot is told so amateurishly with directionless voice acting that makes the game delightfully quotable and an absolute treat whenever a cutscene comes up. Mario sitting alone in jail is an image that will amuse me for the rest of my days. And it's not like it takes itself seriously enough to seriously damage the Mario brand unless you hate Bowser Jr just... existing (which, fair, but I think he's gotten tolerable in recent years). But beyond that, it's got really excellent environmental storytelling beats. Just little things like most of the piantas starting angry and arguing with each other slowly growing peaceful and friendly in the plaza, the way the game slowly becomes brighter with every Shine Sprite collected, Yoshis returning when invasive species are removed from the island, that one hotel manager who keeps scamming Mario into cleaning up his stuff. It's really cozy and reflects the game's themes of restoration super subtly in a way a child could understand. The game isn't high art or anything, but it's cozy and does everything it wants to, really well when it does so wordlessly and hilariously ineptly when it doesn't. The more I think about it, the more I think the game is endearing because of its story! --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |

Kamekguy 02/18/22 7:09:22 PM #13 | Most of these definitely look like they're here to set up into cooler evolutions and not do much on their own. And then Voltorb and Yamper. I do like Voltorb as a play on the classic 'mimic' concept, the fact that it has high speed and self-destructs really makes it a fun 'penalty' Pokemon. Just kind of a shame it's only really interestingly used in an optional dungeon and by the next game it's just one of many traps with Koffing and Geodude. Yamper's a dog, though. So like. Good boy. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | What would be better: OoT HD or BotW |
Kamekguy 02/18/22 6:42:14 PM #22 | BotW has a jump button, OoT does not. Polish and focus will not fix such an egregious mistake. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | How many songs does Banjo know how to play on the banjo? |
Kamekguy 02/17/22 7:05:06 PM #5 | Smash Ultimate has one victory animation where he plays the "Jiggy Collect" jingle. Otherwise nah he doesn't really play it. Unless you count 'songs that use the banjo as their primary instrument', in which case he knows two variants of Spiral Mountain and the Pause Screen theme (which is... just the main theme again but down-tempo). So, at minimum, 2. At maximum, 5, but two of them are just the same song as another song he knows. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |

Topic | Favourite evolved pure poison pokemon? |
Kamekguy 02/17/22 2:01:11 PM #8 | All really good... except not big on Swalot because it has always disappointed me in every time I've run it in. Every Muk and Weezing I've even run, by contrast, has been great. Will go Muk today as I like it more in the anime, but either is totally fine. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | Favourite unevolved pure poison pokemon? (2-stage) |
Kamekguy 02/16/22 3:02:23 PM #15 | I like all of them! They're all basic (and Poipole), but they're neat! I have fond memories of throwing apples at Grimer in Pokemon Snap, though - Koffing, too, but Jigglypuff Escort Missions knock him down compared to pure, unprompted agricultural violence. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | Favourite fully evolved pseudo-legendary pokemon? |
Kamekguy 02/15/22 2:55:19 PM #21 | I never noticed Dragapult's weird baby feet until today. ... Don't like that! Tyranitar today, pretty solid all around group but T-Tar is just one of the best "destructive monster" Pokemon around. Great way of softening the kaiju aesthetic into Pokemon's art design. --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
Topic | Favourite evolved primary fighting pokemon? (2-stage) |
Kamekguy 02/12/22 4:14:38 PM #10 | Honestly a fantastic set. Pangoro and Sirfetch'd have SO much personality, Medicham and Hariyama are both incredibly fun to use in-game, Primeape is the savior of Yellow version, Hitmontop has fun Pokemon Stadium 2 mini-game, and Lucario speaks for itself (although I don't like it at all in Smash). I think all of these make a great case for someone's favorite. But Hitmonchan was the start of my lifelong appreciation for boxing. I remember when Pokemon Go first came out and I found one in the wild, and I gasped when I caught it. It was totally unguarded and unexpected, just a fun little natural reaction, and... yeah, guess that proves I still really like the guy, as unusable as he is for the first three generations! --- Mario Vs Cloud 2002: A Video Retrospective - https://youtu.be/1dx4t6H_K9Y Full Channel Available Here!: https://www.youtube.com/c/designingfor |
