There's no system immune to corruption. You just need as many checks and balances as possible to avoid shit like this. Things need to change over the coming years and decades, but this is probably realistically one of the best systems we could have had when factoring in how we realistically act.

Reading authors intent is an interesting thing. While its true that without knowing them personally, it can be tough, you can kind of tell what theyre going for based on your knowledge of stories in general, and how the author seems to be implementing them. So while it does leave room for you to misread them, you can be pretty accurate.

Because I'm talking about people who try to twist the content of the work to fit their own stupid narrative while ignoring that the writers obviously intended the plainer explanation. If a character kicks a dog, it's writing shorthand that this character is an asshole. But people will try to argue that no, it's perfectly plausible that this character dislikes dogs because when he was a child, his little sister was mauled to death by dachshunds, when anyone with any sense in their head will know that the writers are in no way implying that.

We know what the writers intended because those involved with the show confirmed that will is gay. personally writing something is far from the only way to understand author intent.

I don't disagree with that. It's a weird example because it's a song, but Running Up That Hill is about a woman wishing she could swap genders with her boyfriend. Stranger Things takes those exact same lyrics and instead turns it into a song about survivor's guilt. That sort of thing is fine.

My issue is when you go for the absolute, most roundabout bullshit interpretation of the events when any common sense would tell you that the writers obviously didn't intend that. To go back to Stranger Things, Will being gay is blatantly obvious, but people will bend over backwards to argue that it's not the case. They'll disregards things like him doing a school project on a famously gay historical figure which the writers would not have included if it weren't intended to imply that plot point.
