I thought it was fun for a while, but it suffers from the "Ubisoft Open-World Bloat" that's been plaguing their games lately. I'm not a Ubisoft hater or anything, but their games are all getting kinda stale imho. They're like the Madden franchise but with action games

Pretty much every game is somebody's GotY, and "Game of the Year" edition hasn't been tied to any actual awards for quite some time now. That bugs me less than "ultimate editions" that have less content than later or even contemporary versions. That's just not what "ultimate" means.

Yeah this. I get that Far Cry, and practically every other game under the sun, has dedicated fans but it's laughable that Ubisoft is putting out a GOTY edition for this game.

But at least this edition seemingly includes all the content for the game so that addresses your Ultimate Edition point.

Actually maybe that's not true. Supposedly it includes all the DLC but I wonder if there's cosmetics and items that aren't included in that $120 price tag

I know this has been a thing for a while now. Some obscure blogger lists a decidedly mediocre game as their GOTY and publishers run with the ball...

But c'mon... Far Cry 6?

I really enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, but like 100 hours into Odyssey I was getting really burned out. I thought about skipping Valhalla and I wish I did because I started getting burned out like 20 hours in and ended up finishing it with well over 100 hours lmao I'm a glutton for punishment

Definitely skipping on the series for a while though. I need a fucking break.

I really enjoyed Valhalla for the combat and exploration and the ship stuff, but these games are just too fucking big and I honestly don't give a shit about the story or characters any more

Meaning they are legally bound to not talk about certain things pertaining to the business, or they risk being sued or otherwise penalized.

Given that context, their silence is not fishy if they are bound by an NDA, which seems very likely.

I had a bunch of accounts I made as joke accounts, but I'm a strong believer in not beating a joke to death, so most of them were used sparingly and occasionally pulled out of the mothballs just to keep them active or make a quick joke.

Certainly. But Disco Elysium was a surprise hit and a commercial success. They caught lightning in a bottle. It put their indie studio on the map.

Although the creators have some cache and swagger now, unless they can secure some investment or funding they'd pretty much be starting from scratch. It's no small task starting a new studio. Name recognition is great but it's not like these people are industry giants like Miyamoto, Ken Levine, Gabe Newell, Shinji Mikami etc etc. Even after reading several articles on their departures and being a fan of the game I couldn't tell you their names off the top of my head. They can say "from the creators of Disco Elysium..." but so can their former studio... So they'll have to make sure they can stand out and apart from ZA/UM.

I'm not saying their success and notoriety is worthless. They're definitely in a better position than when they founded ZA/UM. But it's an uphill battle. Catching lightning in a bottle is tricky and requires some measure of luck.

Having name recognition dulls the reliance on luck, but there's a multitude of factors that go into launching a project. Money. Having a decent idea for a game. Having the passion to see the project through. Disco Elysium was very much a passion project. Who's to say they'll have the desire to create an entirely new universe, characters, lore, plot, etc? It can be very demoralizing to have all of those things you worked so hard to establish be pulled from your grasp. To see the fruits of your creativity under someone else's control. Maybe they don't want to start over.

I dunno. I'm just pointing out that it's not so simple as just "hey, go make another game" and hoping it's as good and well-received as the last one. They beat the odds once. No guarantee that they can do it a second time.
