I'm playing but I have so little time I've made almost no progress. Just got to the part where Atreus goes to Ironwood in a dream or some shit. I'm loving the game though. Atreus is kinda badass. I'd play a spin-off game with Atreus for sure

Someone I worked with posted a gofundme to their socials, and has caught some flak over it. Here's a rundown:

Kid bought a car and overpaid for it. Week later, car gets totaled in a hit-and-run. No one was injured. Car was parked and unoccupied when it was hit. They didn't have gap insurance, and are now on the hook for some $6000+, plus being out a car. Gofundme was created to generate several thousand more than that, presumably to pay off the loan amount that insurance wouldn't cover, plus help as a down payment on their next vehicle.

Some are poo-pooing this gofundme. They're sympathetic to the kid for his unfortunate situation, but the general concensus is that this is a tough life lesson and the kid should eat the cost and learn not to buy something he can't afford, and/or to look into gap coverage next time. The coworker is calling naysayers rude and saying if people don't want to donate then fine, but getting upset at people pointing out the lack of gap coverage and holding their nose at the asking amount. It's been a few weeks and they've generated less than $100 in that time.

I don't have a problem with it. It seems superfluous to me, and I don't intend to donate, but as far as I'm concerned people are allowed to use gofundme however they wish, as long as they're not scamming people or doing something illegal. I did not chime in with my thoughts on the matter one way or another.

Curious how you sexy folks here at the prestigious institution that is GameFAQs Poll of the Day message board would interpret this.

Bro you do realize there are games that take 5-7 years to release right now that require day 1 patches, no? Day 1 patches aren't going anywhere any time soon

The day 1 patch is part of the planning. Not procrastination. It's industry standard now. And it's not going away without a substantial shift in development practices and/or technological advancement.

And again, crunch is a separate issue that has little bearing on whether or not games get day 1 patches. Devs may crunch in order to meet a deadline for a patch, but that patch was gonna be there regardless

lmao crunch time and day 1 patches aren't synonymous my dude. Do you really think that doing away with industry crunch will make day 1 patches go away? The day 1 patch is part of the planning. Devs don't set out to complete a game 100% any more. They set out to get the bulk of the game playable and pretty enough, and they plan for a day 1 patch to smooth out the wrinkles.

That is understanding the work and what it takes to meet a deadline. And crunch has little to do with it. That's a whole separate issue.

In the 90s? When video game file sizes were still measured in megabytes? Before household internet was a common utility? Of course they could release complete games without requiring patches back then.

Today, things are different.

Nope. Having a game go gold knowing you can get it to store shelves by a certain deadline and assure quality with a patch is good planning

Any game with a day 1 patch should be automatically disqualified from any GOTY or greatness consideration.

I have games from the 80's & 90's that still play great and didn't need patches. You can claim there are more moving parts all you want, but back then they used Assembly to program all their games so it all evens out in the end.

Release completed games.

Early Access games suck too.

As someone who has to play with Y inverted, Beyond Good and Evil will invert both X&Y if you choose to invert. There's no option to do them separately.

I'm just fine with the visual level we've reached. I think it would be ideal to keep the focus now on improving general performance or possibly innovating in other ways.
