| Topic | ~FIGHT!~ B.J. Blazkowicz, King K. Rool and Samus vs Vivi, Cloud and Liquid Snake |
| KanzarisKelshen 02/24/23 8:54:45 PM #1 | B.J. Blazkowicz, King K. Rool and Samus have challenged Vivi Ornitier, Cloud Strife and Liquid Snake to a fight! Location of the fight: Shadow Moses Island - The bombed out, ruined site of Liquid's past ambitions, as seen in Metal Gear Solid 4. All enemies have been cleared out, and REX's husk is not present. Attackers will begin at the snowfield, while defenders will begin at REX's resting place. Which side will win? Guidelines - The fight will occur in real-time (like an FMV sequence). Gameplay mechanics are less important than how the characters would function in a real-time environment. - The members of each team are ideal teammates capable of executing a prearranged battle plan. - Unless stated otherwise, characters have access to their full arsenal of abilities and equipment. They may not always work at full power, however (e.g. a petrifying spell may have only a partial hindering effect not seen in gameplay or even fail outright against sufficiently powerful mercenaries). Use your own discretion. - There may be SPOILERS from all of the games the characters are from. Rules for Voting - Bold your votes. - You do not need to require justification for your vote, though the admins reserve the right to disqualify votes in the advent of obvious alt voting and other similar scenarios. - Leaders cannot vote for their own teams, but they are free to argue their case. - If you want to switch your votes simply bold the change; there's no need to delete your post, though you may if you wish. - This match will end in 24 hours. B.J. Blazkowicz is as he appears in Wolfenstein: The New Order, with his full arsenal (including upgraded Laserkraftwerk) and all weapons fully upgraded. King K. Rool has taken one of his 1960s Machineguns from him. He has completely forgottoned his own past and become convinced that he is actually Zenos viator Galvus. He will try to act and fight in battle as Zenos would, coloured through the lens of his own natural personality. If he lacks the capability to fight as Zenos at all (e.g. a gunman lacking the capacity to cast magic like a wizard would) he will gain comparable techniques to his object of idolization, though how powerful and skilful these techniques will be past a basic level is up to voter interpretation and he will have access to none of his equipment. King K. Rool is as he appears in Donkey Kong 64. He has access to his techniques and weapons from Donkey Kong Country 2, DK Jungle Climber, and his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate moveset, with the exception of his final smash, game mechanics like shielding, turning invincible, or Mega K. Rool. And yes, he can turn invisible. He has taken one of BJ's 1960s machineguns and is considered to be given a full breakdown on how the thing he took works and will be able to use it to at least an acceptable degree of competency. Samus is as she appears in Metroid Dread. She is equipped with her Gravity Suit, all upgrades, and all Aeion abilities from both Dread and Samus Returns (though only her single, recharging Aeion tank). She also has access to her Light Beam, Dark Beam, Annihilator Beam, Sunburst, Darkburst, Sonic Boom, Seeker Missiles, Dark & Echo visors from Metroid Prime 2. Her Metroid DNA will not fully awaken during battle. The enemy team has become aware of Samus' presence and all that she is capable of, and succumbed to fear of the foe they're now tasked with facing. They will prioritize defeating her above all else, making their battle plan revolve around her defeat and abandoning other plans to ensure her demise. She only has five minutes left to live, at which point she will mysteriously keel over, dead and unable to be revived in any way, shape or form. She and her team will be aware of her impending demise, however, and factor it into their battle plans. ~VS~ Liquid Snake is as he appears in Metal Gear Solid, piloting Metal Gear REX from the nearest convenient location to his team's starting point. He may not leave the vehicle, and is considered defeated if it is destroyed. Liquid has become terrified of B.J. and will try to avoid him at all costs, refusing to engage him unless attacked and trying to put as much distance between them as possible at all times. He is masquerading as Samus mentor and will keep in contact with her during the fight over codec until the teams meet in battle for the first time. At that point, Liquid will shed his faade and enter a gleeful monologue about how he's misled her. She will be generally be none the wiser of the deception, and will genuinely believe she is being given helpful advice from a reliable source, although she still won't do anything obviously incorrect, nonsensical, or out of character just because Liquid says so. Cloud Strife is as he appears in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and continuations, with full access to all his moves and Limit Breaks seen therein. He has access to all elemental magic materia, Deadly Dodge, Parry, Steadfast Block, Healing, Barrier, Subversion, Time, Elemental (linked to Lightning), Assess, Refocus and Bahamut, all fully mastered. Vivi Ornitier is as he appears in Final Fantasy 9, equipped with his ultimate endgame equipment and his full complement of passive abilities, minus all auto abilities except for Auto-Reflect (which he may dismiss at will but not reapply). He has access to all of his spells save Death, may apply Element Null as he sees fit and may perform Sword Magic combos with other allies as appropriate. Doomsday will not necessarily hit all enemies nor allies automatically. Lu Bu is as he appears across the Dynasty Warriors series, with all of his movesets from the various games in his base form. He starts the battle with full Musou, and is considered to have his skill tree fully upgraded. He has come to battle riding Red Hare and has infinite Musou for this match. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

| KanzarisKelshen 02/24/23 8:31:34 PM #55 | Lopen posted... It's less "Raiden resists being hacked due to defenses in his tech" and more "Raiden is a thing that can't really be hacked due to being 'too human' for it to make sense" Ahh, OK So as I recall, Raiden is cybernetic from the jaw down. That about maps equally to Adam Smasher, CP2077's final boss, who looks like this. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/5/50/Smasher_database.png/revision/latest?cb=20210113220036 V can hack him just as well as he can hack people who are much more human and have just a commlink. There's no significant diff there. Given how Raiden's body is so cybernetic, it would probably be completely doable to just make his limbs do whatever even if his mind resists it. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

For example, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoLBt2vayAc Like I said in another post, Cyberpunk 2077 cyborgs are just better than MGR ones in places. Not strengthwise and not durabilitywise, but we have zero reason to believe Raiden scales into having powerful antihacking defenses when his series' track record against it isn't good. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

Cripple Movement is a hack that renders enemies stock still by freezing their implants. What's he gonna do if he can't move? Throw insults at them? --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

| KanzarisKelshen 02/24/23 8:10:12 PM #42 | Lopen posted... Raiden does a lot of weird stuff that extends beyond a cyborg due to his emotions and random intangibles and I'm not sure he can just be hacked just because the ability description says so The MGS verse is bad against hacking. Ocelot hacks the world all the way back in MGS4. Notably, in Cyberpunk, V finds the corpse of a certain hacker. Said hacker singlehandedly brought down the World Wide Web, plunging it into a dark age that fragmented it into segmented, super firewalled fiefdoms that could never possibly connect again because to do so would allow rogue AIs into the system and they could possibly wipe humanity in a few days tops. V takes his quickhacks, and if you want to buy into perk lore, the maximum intelligence perk that allows you to manually create top flight quickhacks is 'Bartmoss' Legacy' (Rache Bartmoss being the web destroyer). Also lorewise, two of the few hackers that could keep up with said guy helped assault the Arasaka Corporation alongside Keanu Reeves way back when, and got their brains fried for their troubles by its ICE countermeasures. V by contrast, manages to successfully navigate them and do what they couldn't. That's a running theme for V in general, in fact -- if you ever watched the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, the heroes try to fight the power together and fail. V does the same thing solo and wins, going beyond what everyone else could do. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

And a half-health Raiden..? Nah, not good enough imo I think Raiden is definitely remarkable and towers above Cyberpunk cyborgs in some areas (strength and durability primarily). They're just equally superior to him in others tho (speed under Sandevistan, hacking prowess, powerful gun access). Intelligence V is just legitimately the worst possible opponent Raiden could face ever. He has no feats defending against the game V runs at all and V has plenty of feats wiping out a megacorp's worth of badass cyborgs with a blink and a hack. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

| KanzarisKelshen 02/24/23 7:44:05 PM #33 | V solos and it's not particularly close. Let's talk exactly about why V solos. V has an intelligence build here. Intelligence unlocks quickhacks. What do quickhacks do? Let's go over the details. 1) Breach Protocol. This is an icebreaker (ICEbreaker? ho ho ho) that V can slip into a network. It will spread across it, the whole ass network, on its own, from any device he breaches and reduces enemy resistances. It makes all targets more vulnerable to quickhacks, but also massively debuffs their resistances to all kinds of damage. It's something like a 90% resistance wipe or so, against flaming, acid, electric, yadda yadda yadda damage? Point being, Mega Man is going to rip Raiden apart just off this. 2) Ping. Ping is literally what it says on the tin. An electronic ping that's nigh-on instant and 'marks' the target so V can see them even through walls. Ping bounces off electronic devices. This is a Mega Man stage. The literal second the fight starts, V is going to Breach Protocol on the town's network, Ping, see Raiden and can start hacking him before he's at all in range to fight. 3) Let's talk about the actual quickhacks. With V's locked in build, Quickhacks upload in the span of a couple seconds, require line of sight (or, y'know, a Ping, see above), and have a wide variety of effects. How wide? Well, V can make Raiden's electronics fry to shock his brain. He can inflict digital insanity to Raiden's brain via his implants. He can send lead, cadmium and mercury into his bloodstream. Overheat his cybernetics to fry his insides. Or, well, simply order him to commit suicide. Like so: https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Suicide Additionally, V has Shortcircuit. Shortcircuit makes every single bullet V fires that strikes Raiden's armor (doesn't have to do meaningful damage) destabilize his system enough to deliver powerful electric shocks. How powerful? You fight battlemechs in Cyberpunk 2077. Shortcirtcuit pings just oneshot them. This is one of the grossest countermatchups known to man. Rock and Zeratul could fight Raiden well even if he was in tip top condition, but they're not needed. V can order Raiden's cybernetics to stop moving via Cripple Movement, blind him, and then kill him at leisure. Notice I haven't even repeated anything except Shortcircuit (because noting its passive weapon buff was important). Raiden being more powerful in a straight up fight doesn't matter. He'll never get one. Ever. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

Raiden is as seen in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with access to all of his weapons (save the Fox Blade) and upgrades available in that game, including the Murasama blade, as well as a full complement of grenades and stinger missiles. He has had V's Relic implanted into his brain and will start the battle at 50% of their max HP and already dying, his health gradually depleting throughout the battle as seen in the solo assault of Arasaka Tower. Though he may be healed, he may not go above 50% of their maximum health at any point. His most favourable limb has come off. He will feel no pain from losing it, but will have to make do for this week's battle without it. ~VS~ Leon Kennedy is as he appears in the Resident Evil series, including canonical supplementary media. He comes into battle with his two Wing Shooter pistols, his knife, a Lightning Hawk magnum, a handful of grenades and the Chicago Typewriter, all fully upgraded. Luigi is as he appears in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, equipped with Master Boots, a Master Hammer, Ironclad Wear, Peachs Peppy Gloves, and a Rally Belt. He has access to all feats shown in the mainline Mario series, as well as all of his Paper Jam Bros Moves other than Mega Thwonk, which he may perform with any ally. He also has access to the Poltergust G-00, a Super Bell, a Super Leaf, and a can of Boo Repellant. He is accompanying Mega Man as an assist, and will fall in battle if he falls. Kazuma Kiryu is as he appears in the Yakuza series, at the peak of his fighting prowess. He comes into battle equipped with three bottles of Staminan Royale, the Ama-no-Murakumo blade, Extremely Sturdy Brass Knuckles, a 9mm handgun with unlimited ammo, the Transcendent Body Armor and a motorcycle. He may use any of his fighting styles, Heat Actions and techniques as he sees fit, and starts the battle with full Heat, which will not drain unless used. V is as he appears in Cyberpunk 2077, as a Streetkid Legend who successfully completed the solo assault on Arasaka Tower. He will be able to see and hear Johnny Silverhand during battle but otherwise will be in top condition. He has maxed out Cool, Body and Intelligence, and has all of their associated perks. He is equipped with the Dying Night, Johnny Silverhand's Malorian Arms revolver, a Netwatch Netdriver Mk.5 cyberdeck with every quickhack available, Optical Camo, Smartlink, Monowire, Reinforced Tendons, Subdermal Armor, and all Cool, Body and Intelligence focused implants, including Gorilla Arms, the Projectile Launch system and all varieties of rounds, plus the Guts and Ba Xing Chong shotguns, Defender LMG, Gold-Plated Baseball Bat, Skippy pistol (in Stone-Cold Killer mode), Yinglong SMG and Ashura sniper rifle, all at the highest possible quality level. Mega Man is as he appears across the Mega Man series. He has access to his Mega Buster, his Magnet Beam, his dog Rush (and various Rush modes), the Double Gear system and all his weapons from the mainline Mega Man series, though Gravity Hold and Centaur Flash will share an energy pool and Flash Stopper will only have its lore effects and not stop time in any way. He also has access to his moveset from the Marvel vs Capcom series, hyper combos included. Zeratul is as he appears in the Starcraft series and Heroes of the Storm with all of his skills except Void Prison. During combat, his cloaking works as it does in HotS, invisible until either he attacks or is damaged, at which point it takes a few seconds of non-action to reactivate. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

I agree and I feel OWA Remake (and actually JENOVA Quickening too) is straight superior to the original version Which, to be fair, I would say the exact same about Dancing Mad Pixel Remastered! The instrumentational upgrade it got was otherworldly. It's the exact same song but it reached its final boss form, haw haw haw
Answers is an unbelievable track and so are Shadowbringers and Endwalker, so I'd concur there. If I was ranking the final boss themes it'd be something like Endwalker>Shadowbringers>Answers>The Extreme>One Winged Angel>Dancing Mad>Neo Exdeath, they're all so far beyond 'normal' boss themes that I can recognize it's just pure taste which is your fave IMO. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

Nobuo Uematsu really just could not miss in his first prime. Neo Exdeath, Dancing Mad, One Winged Angel and The Extreme are all doing something utterly unbelievable and they're all completely valid and correct choices for 'peak final boss music'. | KanzarisKelshen 02/24/23 2:53:22 PM #90 | HanOfTheNekos posted... OWA is iconic in that it is so very unlike most of the rest of video game soundtracks to that point. And it probably is the best example of "final boss music" in a game. I would contend that it's not even the best FF example to that point, it has to be Dancing Mad The issue is just Dancing Mad is a 16 minute monsterpiece (no typo) that weaves in like six different themes and an untrained ear isn't going to recognize that it's bringing back Omen from literally the opening credits to do something unbelievable before reaching the super memorable final movement, just as one example OWA is a lot more 'digestible', for lack of a better term. Which I don't mean as a diss to be clear, it picks a style and does it incredibly well and you don't need to even pay any attention to the details at all to be grabbed and instantly know what it's doing. Dancing Mad, by contrast, tackles just about every style of final boss theme at once, from sad and mournful to orchestral bombing to spooky to all out rock and rolling. The former is a synthesis and the latter is a paradigm unto itself, kinda. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |

Bowser is as he appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story, equipped with the Wicked Shell, Vampire Band, and Special Fangs X, though at his Super Mario Odyssey size. He may freely summon minions for Brawl Attacks, but only to perform the attacks, and cannot enlarge himself further or vacuum up abilities. He also has access to all abilities shown in Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Mario 64, and may summon and use the Koopa Clown Car at will (though he only has one and it contains no minions or other weapons). Mewtwo is as it appears in Pokken Tournament, with all of its moves as well as those from Shadow Mewtwo in the same game, and is capable of a synergy burst on its own. It has all feats and powers demonstrated by Mewtwo in Detective Pikachu (both the game and film), aside from anything to do with swapping souls or consciousness, as well as its entire natural learnset from Pokemon: Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee and the move Psystrike. Teleport may only warp Mewtwo, and only to locations it has already seen in todays battle. He has been hit by Crono and Aigis' Shredding Smite dual tech to start the battle. Its effects are up to interpretation, but it should be assumed to be at least as impactful as both Crono's Frenzy technique and Aigis' Heritage Liberator Palladion technique combined. Donkey Kong is as he appears in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, at Platinum Crest level. He also has access to his Mario + Rabbids: Donkey Kong Adventure skills and Golden Gyre, Smash Ultimate moveset, and his fully-upgraded coconut gun and 10 orange grenades from Donkey Kong 64. He is 100% larger, physically stronger, and faster in both movement speed and reflexes for today's battle. ~VS~ Aigis is as she appears in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax with all of her moves available. Pallas Athena also has all of her skills and properties from Persona 3 and Persona Q2 available. She must actively focus to apply the effects of Aegis Shielding, but it will always trigger if she does so. She has been hit by Mewtwo's Psychic attack, damaging her. She will track Donkey Kong's movements throughout the fight, always remaining aware of his position and prioritizing taking him down if possible. Crono is as he appears in Chrono Trigger's latest version, with a set of full endgame equipment and access to all his techs. He may perform combination techs with his allies should the situation demand it. He has been hit by Donkey Kong's Giant Punch, KOing him and rendering him unable to participate in today's battle. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. |
