That 1888 video might have actually been longer. The man who made the film went missing and probably died shortly after this. His relatives donated some of his surviving stuff 40 years later to a museum to preserve it. We are actually lucky even this small fragment survives and it didn't all go missing or get destroyed.

I can't remember what the context of it is, but there's one old photo of (I think) an old mine, and it's 100% in colour and super crazy detailed and it just blows my mind looking at it.

There are quite a few old black and white photographs from the 1800s that are crazy detailed. If I recall, I think they used glass plates for negatives which have an insanely high resolution. Would be really curious to see a super detailed old color photo.

Really good setting and atmosphere but the gameplay is too repetitive.

For something that hasn't been mentioned yet, Free Willzyx. The ending shot is one of the most funny things ever.

Part of the reason for the feel is the creators needed to nail the artstyle since there was no crutch to fall back on with crude, early 3D video games.This is why so many well made old 3D games are said to have "soul".

in like the 3 or 4 chapter you go to a swamp full of indigenous tribesmen and you find notes about them "reverting to their old ways", something that never happens to anyone else the plagas infest in re4 or 5, which was pretty much just an excuse for the game to have an area where guys in grass skirts chuck spears at you

i do agree that it was mostly a result of japan at the time being well behind in portrayal of this kind of subject matter though

2nd Palace Boss is one of the best designed fights in the game (on either vanilla or royal). It tests your use of game mechanics without feeling like bullshit. The 5th Palace Boss on Royal is complete bullshit and terribly designed.

At least these teams have normal names. Remember the trend around 2000 to give weird names to teams? The OG XFL had the Orlando Rage and Los Angeles Xtreme. The WNBA was founded around the same time and is full of dumb names like the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever.

When James started letting others write Monster Madness, Cinemassacre was caught plagarizing and the employee plagiarizing was supposedly fired.

He actually started doing let's plays recently. Dunno if he is still doing them.

The battle system is great as always. The atmosphere of the game is phenomenal, and the game mostly uses a quasi-open world that works very well. There are a few traditional dungeons, and they are mediocre and bad. Story isn't that good besides a few stand out moments. The game also chugs on Switch hardware. An actual PC port would be great.
