I've lived in Japan for five years and I can tell you this is simply not true at all. Anime is extremely popular and mainstream in Japan. It's everywhere. The most popular songs are often anime themes, most watched shows on Netflix etc. are usually anime, highest grossing movies are anime, my town has anime themed train station, bus, and an anime museum, and it's not the only town like that.

Anyone trying to claim anime is actually no big deal in Japan is just letting you know they are lying.

US is not above most of Europe. But we're talking about western media as a whole, and generally gaming journalism is pretty damn progressive compared to other industry outlets.

I'm giving you the reason why western media is "biased" against Japanese games.

Because in the video game industry, one part of the world is decades ahead when it comes to simple things like not making your black characters act like Mr. fucking T.

Persona 5 literally had to be censored in the west because of its treatment towards gay characters, of which were stereotypically depicted in such an embarrassingly bigoted matter. It was one of the highest selling Japanese developed games of the past few years.

But that's totally the western media's fault for being biased and "xenophobic against the culture!"

Imagine living in Europe and looking at the USA and going "lol it's just the culture bros it's xenophobic to point out that half the country voted for a man that wants trans people dead"

You come across as the kind of guy who doesn't know how to talk to women in your own country, so you look to Asian women for an easy time so that you can mask your inability to speak to and maintain the interest of a woman from your own country by replacing it with the element that you're foreign, in some odd attempt to re-invent yourself as a ladies man despite the fact that you're essentially just putting training wheels on.

My money's on your marriage falling apart after the kid(s) are gone and they realize they're just stuck with you, which is one of the major contributing factors to the rising divorce rates in Japan.

Contrary to popular belief, anime stuff really isn't that big in Japan overall. Again, some series become popular (Like Shounen Jump stuff), but they're exceptions.

Japanese games are decades out of date when it comes to misogyny, sexism, and other tropes. Centuries out of date when it comes to non-white/asian people.
