Yeah the biggest problem with Crash 4 is that it was made by people who understood why Crash was so popular, but then got really carried away trying to emulate it.

Don't forget like damn near every level has a handful of hidden secret boxes/gems, the latter vary between the regular/colour filter modes and both are often so frustratingly hidden that it has to be damn near impossible to actually find them all without consulting a guide or something. Its a nightmare to 100% or to speed run, which is a shame since that's really the main drive of this kind of game.

I wouldn't say they're beneath the plot, because they're all used for the express purpose of getting over the plot. Everything is designed to enhance the plot.

That's the main strength of TLOU. That the entirety of the game is so tightly designed around telling a specific story and because of that it tells the story really really well.

But that's not to say the gameplay or setting or whatever don't matter. If this was basically a point and click puzzle/adventure game like, say, the Telltale games, TLOU wouldn't be remotely close to as good, even if the story could be just as good.

No, because you couldn't move pokemon from the OG Red/Blue or even Gold/Silver era games beyond the GB era. That and their saves being based on a limited life battery means the majority of pokemon from the 90s in general are probably gone.

If you got the Virtual Console RBY or GSC on the 3DS, you could transfer pokemon from those versions (or if you were so inclined and still had a functional GB game, you could transfer your save with some shenanigans), but you couldn't do this with the Game Boy games.

The move to gen 3 was what caused all this, where Gamefreak instituted a ton of minor changes to backdoor stuff (mostly totally revamping EVs and IVs, adding natures, abilities, etc...) and as such blocked ways for the previous games to interact with the more modern ones.

idk, I don't think the kids are the ones spamming Iron Hands and Azumarill in every raid, I think those are the older people who don't want to put in the effort of EV training more than one pokemon.

The kids are the ones who use their level 40 starter in the 5 star raid and get OHKO'd 5 times in a row so you lose.

They only needed that action in the video game because it's a video game, and if you're not doing something the player would get bored. You need to think about encounters and levels and bosses when writing for a game. (You also need to make sure it's always on Joel and Ellie since they're the playable characters.) If we're talking about "filler," most of the combat segments in the game are "filler."

But this isn't a game, so they don't need to do that.

When writing for a show instead you need to think of other ways to keep the audience invested. If it's just action every episode that'd get boring too. And since they're not forced to linger on Joel and Ellie 100% of the time, they're given the freedom to branch out and give lots of focus to the other characters. So they opted to write an engaging story instead.

Part of me also wants to say that this episode may have been trying to save some budget for some crazier stuff near the end of the season, but that's entirely me pulling stuff out of my backside.

This one is something I'm not sure if I'm stuck on or not. Because of course an adaptation doesn't need to be direct 1:1, in fact I think it shouldn't be, as long as the actually important parts of the story are there. But the hyper-focus on Ellie and Joel's relationship in the game is one of the actually important parts of the story, at least in the game. Putting this much added emphasis onto the wider world of TLOU could legitimately hurt the story by taking away that focus.

Its only the third episode, so I'm still optimistic for the rest of the season, but I will say its a bit of a worry right now for me.

If you aren't really expecting Bill to have any depth, and skip out on that one extra item if you scavenged in the house you find Frank in you might miss that there was like, a legitimate relationship there.

You also have to miss Ellie's joke with the porn afterwards.

It certainly isn't subtle, but if you're not actually expecting much from the game, much less the supporting characters of said game, I could see it going over the head of some.

Not sure how it would be considered filler, Bill never shows up again in the story (I think he might have been mentioned offhand in 2 but not sure) again anyway so it essentially changes nothing.

Well, that would be why you might consider it filler, because we didn't really go anywhere from that episode.

While I did really enjoy the episode, I still don't know how I feel about the effort into expanding the wider world of TLOU. Part of what made the games such a good story was how hyper-focused it was on Joel and Ellie. But its still only episode 3 so I'll hold my judgement there.

Do you have a Samsung? Then probably just go with the Samsung Galaxy watch. They're one of the better ones but lose some features when you leave Samsung. They're still a top contender for any android, but does suffer from a shorter battery life (if you aren't using it extensively, I can usually get 1.5-2 days out of mine)

Note: The Apple Watch literally blocks a connection to an Android phone, while The Galaxy watch blocks a connection to an iPhone, because **** you.

It's a game that feels very much like the people who were making it were die-hard Crash fans. Though that's also kind of its biggest flaw.

The levels are typically like 3-4x the length of the PS-era levels, there's a billion collectibles and way to many that fall into the "well how the **** was I supposed to know that?" tier of annoying, and significantly harder to make it through without dying (which is mandatory for a whole extra selection of extra collectibles)

That said, the gimmicks are fun, its clear that its like a love letter to Crash, and there's definitely plenty to like in it.
