That scene where Peter is picking up his date for homecoming is like a top 5 superhero movie scene imo

He was more intimidating out of costume than in it... and it's weird that he's the one making the threats, when usually it's the protagonist's loved ones that are in that situation, not the antagonist. A weird role reversal that I don't think we've seen before

Ok something I've been thinking after rewatch. If Blonsky isn't a bad guy or the bad guy, why does the show end with him going back to jail as some kind of victory or triumph? For hosting the bad guys' event (be it knowingly or unknowingly)? For turning into hulk-abomination and ignoring his power restrainer, the exact same thing that Jen did?

Agreed. Monica saying, "They'll never know what you sacrificed for them," pissed me off so much. The darkhold didn't make Wanda evil. Wanda's reactions imply she didn't consciously know she was mindraping the entire town. But when she finds out, she flies off and immediately starts looking for a different way to achieve the same goal. There's no indication she cares about making amends or facing justice. As long as that second path is less evil than mind-raping little kids, which I argue MoM is, then it's in line with her character growth.

The main difference is perspective bias. WandaVision is told from Wanda's perspective and MoM is told from her victim's perspective.

I rewatched the scene and it was so much dumber then I remembered. I don't remember Wanda flying away in her silly new wardrobe nor do I remember that line and it was so horrible. It's like rewarding hostage takers and telling them how amazing they are after capturing them except they didnt take Wanda in. And we're supposed to feel triumphant that they put that head agent guy in handcuffs? Really?

I just realized how this trend is starting to be common with all the disney mcu shows, Hawkeye's ending gave me a very similar feeling...

First joke of the season:

Flight attendant: "I once held an entire plane hostage until I beat the final level of breath of the wild"

Me: I... what? Writers, it cost you literally nothing to not put that line in, and literally everything to actually write it and make an actor say it. Not even the big bang theory would have had a line like that...

That felt like a worrisome start to the season lol.

Well that's just not right, not right at all. This is the only example of a slightly not good bird themed villain, and because of the old angle not so much the bird angle. Choosing Batman is a mistake to help your point because every Batman's bird themed villains are great. You've got the classic penguin, amazing, ranging from faux aristocratic wannabe mob boss to danny devito batman returns. They've even had an owl themed villain that was surprisingly alright.

They probably felt pressured to spell things out in big capital letters because the majority of the audience was still dumbfounded at that point over the show going full meta ending. Couldn't say for sure though, I only watched it once and can't remember most of the specifics.

I definitely am going back to watch the individual funny moments, I think it's made up of small funny moments throughout the show but they haven't really formed a cohesive narrative.

Now I definitely agree with the other guy saying it should have been a more standard 30-40 minute show like Aly Mcbeal or BL so that they could really flesh out the court cases and make them entertaining. Also hire actual writers for them next time.

It's a good show, but it lost steam for me as it went along. I loved the first episode, in fact it's the only episode of an MCU D+ show I watched a second time. I've got no real love for Daredevil, so while I thought he was great in his appearance, I wasn't really hyped for it either. The final episode was executed fine (and seems perfectly on-brand for the source material), but the problem is that meta humor - even finely-crafted meta humor - is just kinda played out at this point in time. So quick, subtle meta gags are a lot more palatable than long, elaborate bits (most of Jen's brief quips to camera were pretty funny).

I definitely agree with all that, the quick meta gags were way funnier for me throughout the show than something drawn out.

The comic book character maybe have done it first, but this ending reminded me a little of Deadpool 2's ending which had its fair share of meta to generate a happy ending (much to our enjoyment)

That's not what they were doing there. The final episode was Jen retaking control of her show to tell the kind of story that she wanted it to be, not telling the viewer what they should want.

Yeah but her saying to Kevin (the obvious audience stand-in) "those are my stakes" is definitely a no duh situation, telling not showing. Like yeah we know that her stakes are balancing being Jen and she-hulk and learning to accept who she is, so needing to defend it and point blank say it just felt a little weak, like if a character goes "I am sad now" after a sad scene like no duh.

More importantly I almost completely glossed over Charlize Theron being in the movie first time I saw this scene, was too weirded out by the movie overall what with the weird camerawork and plot points like scarlet witch being just straight up murderous bad guy up until the ending where she's like "oh ok I'll stop da killing now"

I remember John Byrne being banned from his own fan forum because he said latina women with blonde hair look like prostitutes when the PR images of Alba as Sue were published in a thread. (In truth, Byrne had said several other reprehensible things on his site before that, but the Alba remark was the last straw).

I don't know who any of that is but that reminds me of a funny story regarding Gloria on Modern Family, specifically Sofia Vergara. She's actually a natural blonde but when the show started out she had really dark hair because producers told her that's the more stereotypical hispanic look so she obliged.

https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2015/07/17/09/Modern-FamilySofi.jpg

But as the show went on and gained traction and she started to have more leeway she eventually had her hair look closer to how it actually is.

smfh did they actually put that much white tone on her or was it just a high exposure filter on screen?

Why even cast her if they wanted a generic blonde white woman in the first place...

It's a good example of studios wanting to have the cake and eat it too. Jessica Alba was pretty popular in the 2000s, but they also were more concerned with the actors looking like the characters instead of acting well.

It took too long, like until the 2010s and I like to think Hamilton, where diverse range casting became widely utilized and it was more important for the actor to actually play the character well in the context of the story instead of simply looking like the character. Jessica Alba wasn't really a great actor either but they were already using her for eye candy anyways. The director had both movies do scenes where "oops she doesn't have her clothes and is naked now" (which also probably fueled the strife between them in addition to the weird whitewashing thing)

Kinda funny how he got one of the hottest women to ever live in his movie then he does this lol

Makes me wonder why the studio decided to go with him for these movies in the first place.

Actually thinking on it those crummy very mid-2000s movies actually had a lot of the ingredients for what would later become MCU movies, like taking a director known for comedy and putting him in charge, having lots of (super lame) jokes, and embracing the costumes and look of comic book FF. At that time all superhero movies were so afraid/ashamed of having their comic book movies feel like or look like comic books that it basically amounted to everyone wearing black spandex.

It's just that they were completely cooked wrong.

Outside of the first Barbershop film, Tim Story is and has always been a hack director.

Yeah, I have to say I was shocked when I went to check the director's history. When I saw Barbershop on there that basically what inspired this whole topic. Also looking at his later movies made me realize why those 2 crappy f4 movies had such a campy yet unfunny tone. Suddenly it makes sense and fits perfectly.
