I know lots of people don't like them but Huntail and Gorebyss were always pretty memorable to me. Partly because they're in a branching evolution, but mostly just because they're cool deep sea fish.

Not sure what my actual answer is. Lumineon might be up there as a less cool fish, but it had a fairly memorable role in New Pokemon Snap. Same with Basculin and Legends Arceus.

The overall plot also seems like it's pretty specifically Japanese (like I get the feeling it's mostly about Japan not being allowed to have an army after ww2, and politicians like the former prime minister Abe trying to get the constitution amended to allow the country to have an army again instead of the JSDF.... but Abe supposedly had ties to the foreign unification church cult which got him assassinated in real life) but I don't really know about the politics about it to try to actually try to analyze it or the writer's position on it is
I'm not sure if it's specifically about Japan's lack of an army but for sure it's about (perceived) irreconcilable differences between the east and west post-WW2. Honestly even with two degrees in history and a focus on post-WW2 specifically a lot of it went over my head lol. If I had to put money on the writer's position I think they're not particularly fond of either side.

I loved hollow knight but don't know anything about any of the others.
Blasphemous is a straight up Metroidvania in a setting that could be described as like, Dark Souls with Catholic guilt. It's very good and not as hard as people say. Excellent game but the setting is going to be a deal-breaker for some people.

Haiku the Robot is short and plays a lot like Hollow Knight. It's great while you're playing it but kinda forgettable IMO.

Lost Ruins is a Metroidvania with some of the cruelty you'd expect of a Souls-like, e.g. instant death traps and overwhelmingly powerful enemies. However once you're a couple hours in it has a sharp drop in difficulty. IMO this is the third best one in the bundle that I've played, after HK and Blasphemous. Has a little anime grossness but that can be mostly ignored.

Bloodstained is like Symphony of the Night if it was ugly, soulless, and not fun to play. Okay I'm being harsh because people generally really like this game but my takeaway really was "this is just Castlevania but bad".

It's definitely the best of the Awakening - Fates - Engage trio, but still has a lot of the same design sensibilities, even the bad ones. It's arguably more of a traditional SRPG than ever since the emblems make all of your units so overwhelmingly powerful. Much more asymmetric than previous games where your units were essentially working with the same kits as the enemy units.

The story is straight up bad. Not Fates bad but bad nonetheless, and worse, it's lazy. You fight the same four bosses the entire game, presumably because they didn't want to make new assets for bosses that would only be in one chapter. Several of the same exact scenes/character arcs that happened in Fates are cribbed wholesale by Engage. It sucks!

The character designs looked stupid prior to release but within the context of the game they still look really stupid.

Everyone is unapologetically bisexual though so A+++ for that

Overall I don't think it's going to make many new FE fans but probably won't lose many either. It's fine.

Then of newer, slightly higher quality ones I have Torchic and Bulbasaur. I also have a Popplio that I got for like 50 cents at a yard sale.

I used to have an imported Pikachu from back when it had its original fat design. I have no idea where I got it and sort of wish I still had it, but I gave it to my niece when she was like 4 and she's a teenager now and it's still proudly displayed in her room, so I can't be too upset.

Kenri has beaten Killer7

I think this game would have blown my mind in 2005 when it was first released, but in 2023... it's not not weird but there's definitely weirder.

The last couple hours did tie the plot together better than I expected, but I thought it was surprisingly predictable and didn't change my feeling that the middle of the game is basically filler (high quality filler, but still). I wish there was more combat in the final level but maybe it's a good thing there wasn't, it would've stretched things out for sure.

That all being said I've wanted to play this game since 2005 and I'm glad I finally did! Overall I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

Played through Encounter part 2 in Killer7. Gotta say, I wasn't expecting this to be as episodic as it has been so far.

Definitely feel like I've gotten the hang of the movement/battle system by now. If I have one big complaint, it's that you do a lot of switching between Smiths just to overcome one obstacle before immediately changing back to your main guy, and I feel like they either could have consolidated a few of them or made switching faster so it's not so tedious.

I think it's too cheesy, am I completely alone in this? I don't think the creator had the artistic skill to pull off what he intended. Like the thing that drove this home is the nonstandard game over where that one spooky guy in the hallway captures you and cuts off your arms, legs, and wiener. That's an example of a scene that would've been a lot better in LISA. I lost interest shortly thereafter.
Not sure if cheesy is exactly the word I'd use but my reaction from reading the game's Steam page was "this sounds cool but I'm getting a weird vibe from it" and then after reading a couple reviews that mention specific scenes "lol definitely not for me, actually". It seems like a good time if you can look past that stuff though!

It's definitely Spirit Tracks. I'm the kind of person who absolutely loved Phantom Hourglass and would have happily accepted more of the same, and I still thought Spirit Tracks was terrible. I'm glad this poll suggests people have reversed their opinions on those two because the consensus just after Spirit Tracks' release made zero sense to me.

Before I beat it, I would have said Zelda II. That game has one of the worst first impressions of any game I can think of, particularly because of Link's dinky little dagger that makes fighting enemies borderline impossible. Slog through it until the first sword upgrade, though, and the game is actually quite good after that point!
