Like I said before, its down to options. If you have a lot of options and can afford to be picky, not meeting a preference can be a deal breaker.

Its a bit like buying a house. If you have a limited budget, youre going to have to decide which things youre willing to compromise on, but there still might be things that you wont budge on. If you have enough money, anything you dont like is a dealbreaker, because you can get something thats exactly what you want.

I'm going to disagree. I live in Atlanta and know a lot of very attractive people who have a lot of options. However, they're still perpetually single. So while they can certainly make preferences into deal breakers, it hasn't helped them find someone. Anyone can set their deal breakers, regardless of options. But the more stringent you are, the less options you have. The key is understanding the difference between preferences and deal breakers, regardless. And a lot of folks struggle with this, imo.

I wouldn't consider what sneakers you wear to be a "Red flag" issue.

Exactly. Or to put it in different dating terms, it's like the difference between a preference and a deal breaker. Most single folks don't get the distinction there either.

Like, a "red flag" to me, is something big. Like, if a girl has a terrible relationship with her parents, and they can't give a valid reason why, I'd consider that a red flag because that can cause issues with our relationship, should it continue past the dating phase.

But if it's something like the fact that she'll wear Nike sneakers with an Adidas hoodie, that's just a fashion faux pas, not a "red flag".

I consider red flags to be a personality trait that could become an issue down the road. If you're cutting off a potential relationship because of a fashion choice (short of something like they don't wash their clothes) then you're just being extremely petty.

Ah, gotcha! Yes I definitely agree with your term and I can see how it's been changed up over time. Which only makes things more complicated in dating because folks start focusing way too much on trivial things, whole missing the important stuff.

That's how it was originally seen, but the definition seems to have morphed into it being anything that you would consider a turn off or an unattractive trait in a potential partner.

Like, I've seen women say things as silly as wearing wool hat in the wintertime is a "red flag".

That's why. A lot of guys are scared they'll fall into a trap where the girl spends all their money on lavish vacations while he works his ass off.

It's not always a fair assessment, but it's a big reason as to why guys are wary about it.

And most guys who worry about that are also the ones who couldn't afford to go anywhere to begin with nor have the personality to get anyone to want to travel with them. It's kind of like the guys who worry about pre-nups and divorce but are broke as hell and perpetually single. It's a completely irrational fear.

people who claim i am a traveller are often

-Rich and supported by parents, so they have no responsibilities
-Just nomads who dont stick around long, which not everyone is into
-Bored people looking for someone to take them on trips

Sometimes these traveller people are also just young naive kids who are enlightened and will more likely get you in trouble than be a good time.

Most people have full time jobs and can travel maybe once a year. Travelers wont be satisfied.

Most people like to travel, so to make it your personality on a dating app raises some suspicions.

This isn't true at all. People who post are generally just letting others know they don't want to sit around the house and only occasionally go out to eat or a movie. They enjoy actually living. And no, I don't think that's something everyone automatically assumes. Most people don't do a lot of travelling (for a number of reasons.)

No, no God damnit, it isn't! Understanding why people do things is much more useful than strawmans! It doesn't mean you agree, or sympathize, or even tolerate it. But understanding it is so much better than lazy generalizations.

I can even empathize with that. If my healthcare was taken away I'd be well and truly fucked. I'd be pissed. But weirdly enough, it's as red a state as possible I'm getting decent healthcare in compared to where I was (Texas to Indiana.) But if they suddenly swiped it from me trying to understand why that was somehow a good idea to someone would be better than "they're just cruel, that's all" cause that's almost certainly never the entire story.
