A couple years ago I saw both The Shining and Doctor Sleep for the first time, within a few days of each other. Both were great, but I enjoyed Doctor Sleep a lot more. Incredible film and does what a sequel should do, expands the world in a bigger and better way.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but oh well. I didnt have nostalgia to cloud my view of The Shining being a classic so that helped for sure.

I feel the same way, and it was basically the same for me. Some online friends were watching both via livestream, and I thought The Shining was OK, Doctor Sleep was great, and I decided I had to read the books.

Jack setting the hotel up to blow* seems like a far bigger change. in the movie he just seemed completely possessed. but all the hotel ghosts seem completely unrelated to this cult, and I actually have a hard time believing this cult wouldn't have discovered a bunch of shining connections at the hotel.

The big change is that in the book, it makes sense the Overlook spirits travel across the country to Florida to haunt Danny, because the hotel they lived in blew up. In the movie, with the hotel still standing, them doing that makes less if any sense.

also, the shot of the 'Elm Street' street sign had to be done on purpose right? it lingered too long to be incidental

At the end of The Shining book, while a Jack possessed by the spirits of the Overlook hotel is trying to kill Danny, the boiler overloads. He was warned to keep a watch on the boiler at the beginning of the book, and theres a near miss once when he manages to stop it. Jack has a moment of lucidity, and lets the boiler go. The boiler overloads, the Overlook Hotel blows up, and a still alive Dick Hallorann helps Danny and his mother get off the mountain. So in the Do for Sleep book, the Overlook Hotel doesnt exist, and they built a campground there, but its still a spiritually significant site thats used for the climax.

I had to check google to see if Stephen King had anything to do with this, and found out the book is only 10 years old so that explains why I never heard of it

this feels like a sequel to The Shining in the way that The Purge: Anarchy is a sequel to The Purge. yeah they're related, but you have to ignore the fact that the outside world exists when watching the first one for the sequel to make sense. Danny definitely would have gotten eaten as a kid with all that shit going on

It is a sequel to The Shining, and the only thing nonsensical about it is that Kubrick changed the ending drastically, so Flanagan had to adapt the book with that constraint in mind.

Rebecca Ferguson stole the show as Rose the Hat. Great King adaptation, as all Flanagans are.

Both have their pros and cons, but I slightly prefer the book. The movie is better in several ways though.

The only good things about FF8 are Triple Triad and the Laguna sequences, and by the end of the game the extra rules ruined Triple Triad, too.

I make it from scratch using Velveeta and milk.

What I do is after draining the noodles, I pour in milk until I can see it coming up around the edge no where near the top of the pasta then add in about a third of a Velveeta block cut into cubes, a generous amount of fresh coarsely ground black pepper, stir it up, and put the lid on on all for 5-10 minutes before stirring to incorporate.

Id like to do that, just cant justify the expense.

It depends on what day it is. If Im washing and conditioning my hair, probably 13-15 minutes. If not, probably 10 unless I rush it.

No. I would say its a bad idea due to the different statuses they have, as one probably has an established career and one probably works part time as a waitress or something, so the relationship seems very imbalanced, but I wouldnt call it creepy.

I hated living in cities. Too noisy, way too expensive, too little nature to look at, and Im mostly a home body anyway, so having stuff to go out and do didnt appeal much to me as long as I was by myself. Plus, I was born legally blind and cant drive, and it was expensive to Uber around (plus, depending on where you are, the public transportation is outrageous too; Atlantas MARTA was like $40 a month for all the trains all the buses in 2012, but in 2016 Chicago charged like $200 a month for a single train).

I suspect Id like it even less now, as Ive since really gotten into grilling / smoking / barbecue / outdoor cooking as a hobby, and in populated areas Id probably have neighbors bitching about the smoke.

Finally, I cant really afford to now anyway, as Im taking care of my parents (especially my mother). But at least I can somewhat rely on family to get around here.

Im 37 and already feel like this. Every woman I see is either married with kids, divorced with kids, or young enough the only thing theyd be contributing would be appearance, in which case I likely couldnt pull them even if I wanted to.

Just be careful, as they can cause ganglion cysts in the wrists. I got one removed from my right wrist and it came back. I use perfect push up things so I dont have to bend the wrists, but it makes pushups harder.

I use 20 lbs dumbbells and curl about 19 or 20 per set, both bicep and tricep. I should get bigger ones but Im cheap.

Does it really matter how busted individual FF characters are when it's mainly about finding their strong held item and grinding?

Im mainly just asking why it matters if you can control them if they just wreck everything. I cant remember if Vincent wrecks, but if he does, I dont particularly care about him being berserk while he does it.

Why is Vincent being uncontrollable so bad? I dont remember if hes good or not, but Gau is busted as hell in 6 and you cant control him other than picking a rage.

Not familiar with either Souls or Sekiro. If they are a connected universe, then yes its blocked. If they are simply separate IPs that happen to just be made by the same developer without any characters or locations carrying over, then its safe.

They are separate but Patches appears in most of their games.

Do you realize how much ground "top 30" would cover? Like the TC said, you can't play anything that even includes a character from one of your top 30 as a guest. If Marvel or DC is in your top 30, that also takes away Mortal Kombat, a shit ton of mobile games, Lego games, etc. If Mario is in your top 30, you can't play ANY spin-off, Smash, etc.

I think it's easy to underestimate just how much ground "top 30" covers. And if you cover too much ground, you start to get into series that... You didn't play them much for a reason.

EDIT: Personally, I can't even name my top 30, which tells me it probably covers so much ground that, by the time I get to what's left, I'd be out of games I'm interested in playing, or atleast nearly so. And, sure, I may find something new, but I lose a HUGE library of previous games that I greatly enjoy, too.

I dont know mine either, but I dont think anything you mentioned would be in it. Ive been gravitating more and more to indies these days so I think Id be fine.

That does beg the question though if a single game counts as a franchise.

Now, to be fair, that could be because they don't have money to travel or anything, so that much money could make a difference. But it also could be that they simply don't have any other hobbies, so they spend a lot of time on message boards on a site dedicated to things they no longer care about, and if that's the case, no amount of money is actually going to fix that, and eliminating one potential hobby seems like a questionable choice.

Its not eliminating the hobby. Its saying you cant play whatever your current 30 favorite franchises are. Do you have any idea how many franchises there are? There would still be plenty to play, and that would just be the kick I need to finally start new franchises like Kiseki.

It was fine when you only got one when a new Bethesda game or a new GTA came out, but when basically everything is one, I just find them tedious.

Elden Ring was a well done open world. I think Cyberpunk 2077 deserves some credit for its quests generally being more interesting than that of most games.

The best kind of game design is what BioShock does, where you have large levels to explore in a somewhat nonlinear fashion, and you can travel back and forth between levels as needed. Metroidvanias are great too.

Its easy to lose track of it. Im guilty of paying Netflix and Hulu for years while barely watching anything. Id maybe watch one or two things a month on there, but it wasnt much money in the grand scheme of things. It wasnt until they all started raising prices this year and the Netflix password sharing fiasco that I really examined it and figured out it was costing me about $408 a year. I can buy what I want to watch for around that. More in some years (like this one, as I bought a bunch of old favorite TV shows) and less in others (because eventually Ill reach a point where I just own the small number of things Id like to watch and pay nothing).

I will always have Amazon Prime for the free two day shipping, so I have Prime Video. A friend shares HBO Max with me (I was sharing Netflix with him before I canceled it), but if he didnt, I wouldnt pay for it.

Other than that, Ive just been buying and ripping Blu-Rays (or DVDs when there arent any, for Buffy and Angel), ripping them with MakeMKV, and hosting them on my NAS to serve with Jellyfin, Emby, and Plex, as I run the LSIO Docker containers for all three side by side for comparison.

Its the most likely thing given the leak. GamePass has always been a balancing act. Its the revenue they take in from subscriptions versus what they pay out to license content for the service, what it costs to run the servers hosting the content and the bandwidth to serve it, and whatever they spend producing original content to draw people to the service: same as all the video streaming services.

I think its common sense that the latter is going to be larger than the former most of the time. They thought theyd have to pay out $300m or something to license AC Mirage from the leak, so just extrapolate that out for the bigger games etc.

The difference is that Microsoft is a $2 trillion company and can afford to keep running it at a loss as long as they want to probably.
