Teaching English is basically a stepping stone for other ventures unless you are really passionate about being a teacher.

Yeah, in many places in Asia, its a way to get your foot in the door. However, many places have slim pickings for foreigners if you dont want to teach and youre never going to make great money in teaching purely from the TEFL stuff. There is good money to be made, but not through that avenue.

I don't get the people who thought a lot of people there would be speaking English. Why? Most people there aren't going to be traveling to English-speaking countries regularly.

I think some people watch too many movies where someone goes to a country and everyone they run into just happens to be fluent in English because the story needs them to be.

In fairness, if you go to major cities in most of Asia, theres a lot of English speaking people.

I know a guy who went to Asia to teach English. He worked in Japan, South Korea, and Thailand and said he liked Thailand the most.

My understanding from many people whove done the Asian teaching English circuit is that the best place to go is Vietnam, with Thailand being a close second.

The funny thing about soccer is watching British people get triggered by their own damn word.

Of course if I lived in the UK I'd be a rugby fan that didn't watch football.

I dont care about football or soccer as a sport. Its just infuriating to see either side insist that their word to refer to men kicking a ball round a field is the only possible correct answer.

If teen years aren't the transition, what is?

Like I said, you don't go to bed one night with the mental maturity of a child and wake up the next morning as an adult. Should we consider 17 a child and 18 thru 23 to be transitional? If you're attracted to a 20-year-old, you're attracted to someone who is a half-step up from being a child?

If you're worried about semantics, I would argue "youth" is a good term for a teen. It's a reminder that they have a long way to go, and that they're not to be sexualized or pursued romantically by adult-adults, but it still doesn't infantilize them by placing them in the same category as a 7-year-old.

The entire process, from birth to death, is one great big transition. 16 is still considered to be a child the vast majority of the time, regardless of how you feel about it.

I'm sorry that's the case man but you definitely were still a child just sounds like you were a child that had to take on adult responsibilities and that's not fair to you, hope everything is going well for you now

I mean, its semantics at that point, isnt it?

But yeah, things are very good for me now. I had some very rough years but I cant complain about the life I live today.

It's not about getting the last word. It's that teens are objectively more developed that children. If you want to talk about sexual matters, it's fair to say that they're all minors and leave it at that. In terms of everything else, a 17-year-old is going to handle complex issues, violent content, difficult choices, the responsibility of driving, choices over whether to adhere to social structures or rebel against them, and everything else with closer proximity to an adult than, say, an 8-year-old or a 12-year-old.

Nobody is disputing that people mature as they go. Theyre just stating that in most capacities a 16 year old is seen as a child, and theyre absolutely right.

It was a very frustrating truth for me, when I was 16, as I was working full time and living alone and financially independent, but in many ways seen as a child. But frustrating or not, its still the truth.
