I mean, when she complained about emotional trauma and talked about seeing a doctor, McMahon pressured her into *only* seeing a doctor of his choosing, and she was never given any billing or medical documentation from that doctor. McMahon repeatedly mentioned having his world-class lawyer on speedial, and how his lawyer could make problematic people disappear. He spoke about things like taking care of loyal people. This is coded language, and anyone can read between the lines. If you give credence to these allegations, then imo it becomes reasonable to go so far as to call this a type of sex slavery. This is how extremely wealthy and powerful people purchase sex while draining the humanity from their victim.

Again, if this was Johnny Never-Heard-Of-You, I might refrain from any opinion until the matter is settled, or at least until we hear both sides. It's Vince McMahon. I have no problem believing all of this.

I think they're laughing because it's a live reaction in a podcast that's usually very comedic. I honestly don't blame them for it, but if they're like most normal people, the really grotesque and sad nature of these allegations will dawn on them once they start reading the actual court complaint (which is 67 pages long and publicly available).

nobody sane is doing a closed door meeting with a dude in his underwear. obviously wrong but at the start something had to be consensual. like this is by far the worst accusation he's ever had and there's gonna be a lot to prove.

No one in here can know the pressure of feeling indebted to, subservient to, and socially/financially trapped by one of the most powerful people in entertainment. Compound it with the fact that this whole thing started because she was unemployed after losing her job as her parents' caregiver because both her parents died.

And yes, I know these are all allegations, but we're wrestling fans and it's VINCE MCMAHON. We've been exposed to interviews, articles, books, and inside accounts on this guy for decades. I've been reading about reactions to this in multiple places, and for every person saying "let's wait for the court to decide," there are 50 people saying "I believe every word because we all know this vile piece of crap."

It's also a civil complaint, and her legal counsel is rock solid. He's going to lose, and lose big. Like I said earlier, I only hope this prompts criminal investigation, because this is some criminal behavior.

What's the background on this?

This is coming from my recollection of his book (which I read years ago), so I'm sure some of these details are wrong. A young Bret was in some guy's room, thinking they were just hanging out. The guy sits next to Bret, shows him some gay porn, and asks "you like?" Can't remember if the guy touched Bret first or if Hitman immediately just decked him, but yeah, he punched the poor guy and left. This was back in the 70s or 80s and like, clearly doesn't make it ok, but using violence (rather than a polite decline) was a much more common way of dealing with things like that back then.

Anyway, here is Cornette's take, which we got LIVE as the story broke.

Someone in another topic mentioned this, and I think it's worth noting: one of the victim's attorneys is Ann Callis, a former chief judge in Illinois. The victim has a serious legal team representing her; there's just no way attorneys of this caliber would be persuing this case if it were some frivilous ambulance-chasing stuff.

I mean, Bret Hart, someone I've admired for most of my life, was a serial cheater and punched out a gay man who came on to him. Almost everyone has skeletons in the closet and flaws in their character, and I'm usually of the opinion that these flaws warrant some contextualization before the person is completely condemned.

But these accusations against McMahon are beyond the pale. They'd be a horrible goddamn look 50 years ago, much less today. I know this is a civil case and he'll likely wind up paying big money, but fuck, I wish it prompts a criminal investigation.

That, or as someone else pointed out, you always say every state is important regardless of how you actually campaign

That's probably it. One decent thing about established politicians is that they *should* have decently run campaigns. Biden's analytics people obviously know that Florida is the only state where he did relatively poorly in 2020, so time and resources are much better spent elsewhere. Florida is a lot cause for 2024 with both Trump and DeSantis poisoning the waters there. But *every* state is important when politicians and campaigns are asked about it in public.

For me, the question is whether Florida can be competitive again in 2028. I'm hoping the Florida Republican rot will have somewhat receded by then.

Idiotic. Focus on Ohio instead.
I do agree with this. Biden has strong union support, which probably helps in the midwest more than any other region of the country. Having Biden and Sherrod Brown on the same ballot should also help each of them out. Additionally, winning Ohio essentially ends the election. It's so difficult to picture a path to 270 for Republicans without that state - even John Kerry would have won in 2004 had he managed to flip Ohio.

One bad election doesn't mean the state is permanently red. I do think Biden's campaign should be focusing more on Georgia and the midwest (they almost certainly are) and prioritizing Texas, but whoever comes after Biden could be much more competitive in Florida. It's not a lost cause forever.

Dems are never going to win Florida.

Obama won it twice. Hillary lost it by only about 1%. While I agree that focusing a great deal on Florida might be a mismanagement of the Biden campaign's resources (it was literally the only state out of 50 where Biden performed worse than Hillary), we shouldn't act like it's eternally out of reach when it has historically been very competitive for Democrats. Both Trump and DeSantis are from Florida, and that's probably making the state temporarily more red than it otherwise would be.

I think you meant 140, right? The next quarterly numbers (Jul-Sep 2023) release tomorrow, and if they and the holiday sales are in line with last year, Switch will be right around 140 by the start of 2024. Looking a little further, it should be in the mid-to-high 140s by the launch of Nintendo's next console, assuming that happens in Holiday 2024. Whether Nintendo will support Switch enough to eke out the remaining ~10 million sales is anyone's guess.

In chronological order of meeting, to the best of my recollection:

Taslion - I knew him before he browsed Board 8, he's one of my brother's best friends.

Kuge - we met up a few times when he lived in Vegas. He's in the Midwest now with a family. =)

Realo - Completely random run-in. He was bouncing outside a bar in downtown Vegas, and I recognized him. Made the decision to ask "uhhhh you don't use any video game message boards, do you" and it resulted in an OH SHIT moment. He has a huge following on social media these days.

SuperNiceDog - Met up in a casino when he was visiting Vegas for a poker tournament, IIRC.

foolmo - Went to my favorite buffet when he was visiting the city. Met again a few months later at Magfest 2020.

Wigs - Magfest 2020. I was Wigs's sidekick, as I had never been to a convention before, and he showed me the ropes. Such a fun time.

ExTha - Magfest 2020 again. Met ExTha and his gf. Like meeting Wigs, it felt super natural, like we had known each other for years.

So that's seven. If I've somehow forgotten anyone, I truly apologize. I also just realized that it's been almost four years since I've hung out with a Board 8er in person - I need to correct that. =(

Very possibly the worst french fries of any chain.

Fries are not meant to be fried fresh. They are too full of starch that needs to be soaked out and then they need to be double fried so they can end up with appropriate texture. But these idiots just dump raw potato into a fryer and then they brag about them being fresh despite the fact that it is literally the incorrect way to make french fries. And then they have the audacity to not salt them, though like all fried food, the salting needs to take place immediately or it doesn't stick.

You can get them well done but that is just their garbage fries pretending they were better. They still have shit texture and taste they are just over-done on the outside.
Thank you, this does help explain their substandard fries, as it never occurred to me that In-N-Out is the only fast food where I see them start with raw potatoes in the kitchen. I've also had people tell me that it's their *favorite* place for fries, but I suppose that since their process is so different, it could be a case where the fries are garbage for 80% of people and ambrosia for the other 20%.

I still say the burgers are 10/10 though.

The prequels are crappy movies (let's not forget how widely reviled they were up until 5-10 years ago), but they will live forever as some of the internet's greatest memes. The sequels are just uninspired and not nearly as memorable.

It's weird saying this, but in 2023, I'd much rather watch the Prequel Trilogy for the humor alone. That, and I do think the Anakin/Obi-Wan fallout and confrontation is more legitimately emotional than anything in the sequels.

I agree that most of us have realized within the past couple years that the GameFAQs Contests are over, and we've at least partially accepted it. But Allen's resignation is the most "official" confirmation of it yet, so wishing him well is also a way for us to acknowledge this, and thus, get a little closure.

To that end, I know that this may be asking for too much, but I think we'd all appreciate Allen's (now unofficial) opinion as to whether he thinks he contest era is truly over. It's not like any of us are expecting an optimistic opinion, but just hearing "yeah sorry, I think we're done" from a source like @SBAllen would help us close the door and make some final projects (maybe a final podcast like already mentioned, retiring the Stats Topic, etc.).

The potential for voting strategies are at least interesting. It's already been reported that some Republicans intentionally "staggered" their Not Jordan votes so as to make him lose support over time and quash his momentum (he's had negative momentum thus far).

I wonder if Democrats have thought to employ similar strategies by simply not showing up. There are 433 House Reps at the moment, and 212 are Democrats. Jeffries has been getting a guaranteed 212 every time. They could try to goad the Republicans into not showing up to future votes by... not showing up themselves and giving the Republicans a sense of security. Unless I've missed some rule, if ten Republicans are absent for a vote while Jeffries gets his full 212, he becomes the speaker.
