Yeah. I mean, the group think part is more of a joke at how there is no acceptable discussion within some parts of the left on the Israel issue.

But, there is a real question here. Look at the title of this thread and so many of the initial responses. They seem to suggest that a large number of people do not think the tunnels are real and its all propaganda. Then your post about the reality of the situation seems also to be acceptable. Not sure how those two things can work together. That is really what I was asking about.

Some of the most interesting responses in this thread are from moderators. The whole thread is really odd though. I understand disagreeing with TCs position on loan relief but the overwhelming majority of responses dont even attempt to discuss it. They are just personal attacks and accusations of TC being a fascist/bigot (now genocide supporter) for things TC hasnt said (that I know of).

It's true there are atrocities being committed and Israel's hands are not by any means clean but there also seems to be some propaganda and some "those evil Jews" attitudes that completely ignore the context of the reality that Israel lives in and the enemy they are facing. You wont see many accuse USA of being genocidal after 9/11 and saying USA must have their weapons taken away and be dismantled. And Israel is under much greater threat than we were at that time

If you demilitirize Israel it will be destroyed, there will be no more Jewish state, and most of the people who live there will be killed and we'll be at real threat of a legitimate genocide.

Yeah VCs are pretty much just all speculative gamblers. They got so much money they can risk 9 failures for every one success.

I'm not really sold on AI as some big new thing either. It's something that's been gradually getting better, but I doubt we'll have some giant explosion.

But their ability to take those risks and provide critical funding to entrepreneurs in early stages is something that makes the system special. Think about all the great companies that have been successful due to fund raising through VCs. The entire internet boom, the SAAS industry, so many biotechnology companies. You could go down a list of any decent sized company that was founded in the last 40 years that provides some service you enjoy and VC funding probably helped make it happen.

Is the take from some of you here that fund raising and private equity investment is somehow bad?

I mean, I get the OPs point now - venture bros are hypocritical yeah, but so what? They also play an important role in improving the world around us. Is their goal greed and money? Sure, good for them.

Im literally just talking about what human shield means because the one user clearly doesnt understand. I havent made any statement about if anyone is justified in any type of act or if one side is more justified than another. Why make something up that I didnt say to attack me so fast?

No. Thats just what the term actually means. It doesnt mean they are literally strapping kids to themselves. It means they are launching military operations against Israel from civilian areas or centers like schools and residential communities. There have been verified reports of this activity.

When I heard this was being made I got the book but havent finished it yet.

I have a decent salary and am in a position where Im essentially always around extremely wealthy people. Most of them are still much older than me though. One of the guys I work a lot has his own plane and collects a particular model of SUVs as a hobby and is only a year older than me. Billionaires call my personal cell from time to time to talk about things.

Its a good thing though. Those contacts can be super helpful.

Yes, SCOTUS overturned Row and abortion is under threat but almost every state still has some type of abortion and there have been state elections since Row was overturned that have strengthened rights or declined to outlaw it.

My IDR is $10.63 a month.

And I'm about 60% done with my PSLF as a HS teacher in the middle of my 7th year.

So I'm doing okay with loans. Would rather them be forgiven, but I'm okay.

One of these conflicts is taking place in one of the more densely packed places on the planet against a terrorists organization that uses civilians as cover. Obviously, civilian casualties will be higher in that scenario.

To be clear, Israel should not be targeting civilians and Im not defending war crimes, if any have occurred. However, a higher casualty number in Gaza shouldnt really be that surprising.

Anyone else find it odd that both parties have weird contradictions when it comes to providing aid.

Large segments of the right dont want to continue to aid Ukraine but have no problems sending it to Israel.

Large segments of the left want to continue to aid Ukraine but dont want to send it to Israel.

Both countries were attacked.
Both countries were/are US allies.
Both countries are fighting for their survival.
Both countries pose important interests for the US.

Seems like the more consistent position would be to support aid to US interests or not.

Mainly fiscal policy. Its become my main issue a really. The budget is a mess and continuing to spend isnt a solution. We have real problems that need active budget management and a 4 year political cycle isnt set up to allow a real fix. Cutting hard, across the board is the only viable solution but you cant do that if you want to remain in power.

Some are. I consider myself a conservative that is not a Republican. Registered as an NPA. The growth of independents in the last decade suggest there are other people like me too.

I never voted for Trump or MAGA affiliated candidates. Voted Obama, Gary Johnston (iirc), and then Biden. I believe in small government, fiscal conservatism, and strong foreign policy.

I dont understand how people like MTG or the current speaker even get elected, never mind put in positions of power. Trump tapped into an energy in some of the base that just ignores basic democratic ideals and cares about the nation after other things. Its backwards and dangerous.

The GOP is in trouble and Im hoping it destroys itself and something better, or a third party, comes from it. The two party system is a disaster.
