I've been reading Oathbringer, the third book in a fantasy series, and writing my thoughts down in another topic. I've come to realize that all the analyzing and paying attention to small details that I do in books now... is entirely Umineko's fault. Like, I used to be able to just sit down and read a book and not think too hard about it, but now that doesn't satisfy me. I want to see all the traps that the author is trying to make me fall for. I want to be impressed by a work of fiction in which the author has carefully planned everything from the beginning and left breadcrumbs in earlier chapters. I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, I feel like I'm not able to just relax and enjoy books anymore. On the other hand, I feel like I'm the sort of reader authors wish they had: a person who sees all their little tricks. Ah, I've heard things like these (like taking acting classes making it hard to enjoy movies and tv shows, or so on). Well, I mean, you can probably unlearn it if it gets too much in the way of your enjoyment. I'm not sure where to rank it because it wasn't too groundbreaking or anything, but it did everything mostly right. Also the supporting characters were a bit underdeveloped but there were so many after all... Dishes is pretty fun or at least harmless actually.
