You're in a higher tax bracket now, most of the raise will go to taxes.

I wouldn't be too excited....

@clearaflagrantj does it work like this?

Based on just federal income taxes, you are currently paying $4080 in taxes, with the raise it will go to $5810. So of that $10,000 you will earn $8270 post tax.

This is not including state income tax, or any other considerations like government assistance or any student debt tax write offs. A salary calculator online would be more useful

Happy to hear that, those payments you're making now with the raise you earned are going to go a long fucking way for your future

question for you since youre savvy: do i save or do i pump the money into my debts to get rid of them asap

Heirarchy of saving is:

1. Establish Emergency Fund of roughly 2-3 months expenses. That way if you get laid off or some sudden expense like your car breaks down, you have enough money in your bank account to get by without taking on credit card debt

2. Match employer contribution to 401k (i.e. if employer contribution maxes at 5%, match it).

3. Pay off any debts higher than 5% interest (using avalanche method, i.e. highest interest rates first)

4. Max out personal retirement accounts like 401k, tIRA, and HSA

5. Save for other goals, like early retirement, house downpayment, getting ahead on low interest debts, etc.

And uhh, how's Bitcoin doing right now

61.8% retracement from an ATH that came way too fast bounced incredibly hard, saw it in real time. It's been hovering in a decent range all day. The January Crypto Slump is behind us, the falling wedge from late December is about to complete, the RSI is massively oversold, weak hands have been shaken out, Lightning Network is implementing well, Robinhood is introducing feeless transactions to millions of new users, and Samsung is developing asic miners.

I have never been more bullish in my entire life. I am still calling for a $100K before EOY 2018, but if this imminent rally coincides with a fucking stock market crash I'm calling for a $100K by Summer.

How will crypto protect their money?

Crypto is an international asset, lives in its own little world that is not affected by domestic markets and such. Some financial experts theorize that rich people could take their money out of stocks and invest into cryptos to evade a crash in the stock market.

In the past people would invest in gold to mitigate losses, but this is the age of Bitcoin

Just basically holding and not really paying attention to crypto at this point.

This

Just out of curiosity, how long are you all planning to let it go? Like are you guys just looking to let it sit out a year or so, check up, and pull out if you're satisfied or are you guys looking to let it go as some sort of alternate retirement planning, or somewhere in between?

I said this in another topic, but my plan is take out 50% and put it into mutual funds for slow and steady growth, leave 30% in crypto to grow more, and take out 20% for fun.

I don't want to ever leave crypto forever, but I very obviously value my retirement and financial freedom over holding forever. If I have enough money to retire while still leaving a sizeable chunk in cryptos, I'm taking that deal.

The worst part is that millennials actually think crypto was an "investment." More Americans under 30 have Coinbase accounts than real investment accounts, which is pathetic.

If I left my money in mutual funds I would have seen an ROI of +20%, with crypto my highest gains were +290% a month ago, after this bear market bloodbath I am still up +150%.

Don't get me wrong, my tIRA, 401k, and HSA are all still in mutual funds, but my brokerage account was liquidated for cryptos and I have seen nothing but incredible gains.

So are you now moving all those crypto gains back to real investments?

No.

Waiting for roughly +600-1000% ROI, which should take a few years max.

When that happens I will withdraw 50% back into a mutual fund brokerage account, leave 30% in cryptos for continued growth, and take out 20% for fun money.
