But i do hope she is everything she seems to be.

Citizens United is awful and more people need to speak against it.

I mean, I don't know anything about her, maybe she's a cunning opportunist. But when the cunning opportunists start deciding to reject PAC money as a strategic political move, it's definitely a good sign. It makes it much more likely that the eventual 2020 nominee will not be taking PAC money. And I mean, even cunning opportunists, if they see their opponent getting an edge they're not getting, they're going to fight to level the playing field, so she would have plenty of incentives to push back as hard as she can against Citizens United.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/02/russia-is-trying-to-bury-this-video-and-they-might-shut-down-youtube-to-do-it/

So..........this is interesting. Know how Manafort was in communication with Russian Oligarch Deripaska during the election? How Deripaska recently sued him for money owed after he had his guilty plea with Muller? This is all stuff we know and is confirmed in court documents. But really, people have been asking what does Deripaska have to do with anything--he's just another oligarch.

So...Deripaska had an instagram model with him, and she posted a bit too much detail about their yacht trip and...

...Basically if we believe this video, it turns out that the third most powerful politician in Russia (Deputy Prime Minister) was on board the yacht with Deripaska during the second half of 2016. (Always hiding below decks when they came to port).

Also Russia is considering blocking the entire domains of Youtube and Instagram to block this information from getting out.

Welp.

It's a regional thing pretty sure; none of the Christians I knew in Canada believed that.

Realistically? I think right now people don't. People following politics closely are looking towards the house and the senate as largely running the country right now.

And this isn't even really a statement about how much influence Donald has (he has plenty). It's more just noting that he changes his mind a lot, or just doesn't follow through. If you listen to a speech from Donald, he might change his position in a week. Or he'll say he will appoint a council to deal with, say, the opioid crisis and...kind of just forget about it and not follow through. If you listen to or read a statement from Paul Ryan, you can be relatively sure that congress is going to try to do the thing that he says it's going to try to do.

I mean, several people in the Trump white house also use private email accounts:

Since it's such a serious crime, shouldn't we be focusing most of our attention on the people CURRENTLY using personal email accounts and not on the woman who doesn't work in government anymore?

Unlikely. If I had to guess, my first guess would be that he changed it to "another senior government official" to protect classified information. And...eh, I don't know many people my age who watch smash 4, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people who play it; they probably get a lot of signups from it. (Younger crowd than Melee, but there are 16-year-olds alive today who weren't born when Melee came out, so...).

lol breitbart

I mean, he already linked Russia Today within the first 10 posts of the topic, which is a considerably worse source than Brietbart. (RT being guaranteed Russian propaganda...unlike Brietbart which only sometimes reposts Russia Today stories).

But uhh, anyway. On topic the memo sounds like kind-of a joke from what we know so far:

Written by Devin Nunes (a member of Trump's team and congressional Republican) we don't know everything in the memo, but what we do know is that it supposedly exists to complain that Rod Rosenstein (appointed by Trump) filed for a renewal of a warrant on Carter Page (another member of the Trump team). (Carter Page has been a focus of the FBI since 2013, and FISA warrants need to be renewed every 3 months. Note that a Judge, not Rod Rosenstein has the final say--if nothing was found in 3 months, they refuse the warrant shut down the investigation. Note also that 2013 is before the start of the Trump campaign). So...anyway this version of the memo was written by Republicans in Congress who work for Trump. Democrats in congress wrote their own memo based on the same intelligence. The memo written by Democrats was blocked for release by the Republicans. (Due to procedural stuff, the public won't actually see the Republican memo until next week).

Now, personal speculation time, If I had to guess, it looks like Trump asked Nunes to give him a reason to fire Rod Rosenstein so that he can appoint a new deputy attorney general who would get rid of Robert Muller, and end the Muller investigation. This coming in the same week that Trump seemingly got rid of Andrew McCabe Deputy Director of the FBI. Also in the same week that Trump unconstitutionally refused to implemented a law passed by congress, passed by the senate and signed by him (Russia sanctions). Where does the FBI fit into all of this? They have no authority over Rosenstein or Muller, after all. Well, yesterday we learned that the FBI just received a second Trump-Russia dossier and were assessing the information in it.

Considering how digital the cards are (as opposed to analog), finding a variation might prove challenging. I mean, you could say "the first time you play a card, refresh the hero power," but the whole point of the card is to reward you if you can get a bunch of cards off.

I mean, for a functionally very similar nerf you could do

"refresh your hero power, and it costs at least 1 after refreshing".

azuarc posted...
As for your CotW example, 8 to 9 is a bigger difference than it seems. It locks you out from spending 2 mana that turn. One very obvious use of 2 mana is the hero power,

I mean, CotW you played it on 8 and you basically won the game, usually. What killed CotW wasn't "oh, you can't hero power with it if you use it on turn 15"--it was the card hitting one turn later. Bonemare you play it on 7 and it's a big swing.

On 8? Well for starters, what's your turn 7 play? Remember, you need to maintain board control and keep minions stuck on the board or else Bonemare gets zero value. Part of what killed CotW decks was that turn 8 was often a dead turn for them after the nerf, which let their opponents get ahead on the board, and getting a pile of value on turn 9 wasn't enough. If you don't have a solid play on turn 7, you might not have minions on board to pump on turn 8.

azuarc posted...
At the very least, nobody's going to dust it, though, because it's common. You really want that 20 dust so bad?

Isn't it 40 dust per? And some people have like 10+ of them, so that's 400 dust.

Patches: probably still playable.

Corridor Creeper: I'm fine with it; card just needed to die.

Raza: Really wish they would have nerfed Anduin instead. Raza was a cool but niche card before Anduin came out.

Bonemare: I....really disagree with this change (for constructed; in Arena...sure, but they could also just lower the offering rate in Arena). Most decks don't run bonemare. Jade Druid doesn't run bonemare. Cubelock doesn't run bonemare. Raza priest doesn't run bonemare. You need a deck with a really sticky board to even support bonemare (so like...Tempo Rogue and Zoolock run it, and not much else). And like...it's a good 7 drop, but there are classes with their own better 7 drops (looking at you Firelands Portal).

Bonemare is...good, but it's maybe 1 stat above where it should be. Like...if Bonemare was a 4/5 or a 5/4 instead of a 5/5, that might be enough of a nerf for it to be considered useable but balanced. At 8 mana it will be hot garbage for constructed; a few people will try it out at 8 mana, but people will quickly figure out it's bad. Obvious comparison here is Call of the Wild. Call is 12/10 worth of stats, some of which have charge and taunt for 8 mana--it was too good, it got nerfed to 9 mana, where it is never played. Bonemare is 9/9 worth of stats for 7, some of which has charge/taunt -- 4 less than the original Call for one less mana (not as efficient). So...we have a card that's not as efficient as the original Call of the Wild, and getting the same nerf that killed Call of the Wild? Yeah, it's done, dust it and don't expect to craft it ever again.

Now, quick note, about half of the listed surgeons don't even do genital surgery. These are people who perform some transgender surgeries, like mastectomy for trans men, who are presumably supportive, but just don't offer that surgery--I'm guesing they feel they don't have the expertise. Counting only the ones that provide genital surgeries looks like there are 11 genital surgeons in the United States and Canada. 11. Eleven. E-le-ven. According to this list, these surgeons are concentrated in 5 states and 1 province. So...according to this list, there are 45 states and 9 provinces with zero surgeons that do this surgery.

(To be clear, I'm not saying this number needs to be higher or anything. Canada seems ok with a single genital surgeon serving the entire country, and Canada has a decent record on trans human rights).

That fight scene and aftermath is so clearly the best scene in the movie that it's an easy way to see if someone's opinions are worth listening to by asking what the best scene was (whether they liked or hated the movie)

I dunno, obviously I thought that scene was good, but if you asked me to mention the best scene, I might have mentioned like...

"The scene where Luke shows up, gets blown up, walks out of the smoke, and brushes off his shoulder"

or

"Luke's lesson about the force where Rey reaches out, including Luke being confronted at the end about shutting himself off from the force, and the way he teased her with some grass at the start"

or

"The opening dreadnought scene, for how dramatic they managed to make Rose's sister's struggle to drop the bombs, and also for the fact that Poe was actually wrong and got demoted for making a bad call." (Like...usually in Star Wars movies if you have a ridiculous plan you should do it; the more suicidal the better. Nice to see some pushback on that).

or

"Lightspeed jumping the capital ship through the enemy ship, and the choice to actually have no sound in the space scene."

--

Like, yeah, the throne room scene would be on my short list, it's a good scene, but it's not necessarily the only scene I thought was good, or the first scene I would mention.

A) No, Pounce reads "Target creature you control fights target creature you don't control. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)" If the text of the card (including reminder text) doesn't tell you to tap creatures, don't tap creatures. All you do is exactly what it says on the card (both creatures damage each other).

B) You heal the amount of damage you deal. (You can deal overkill damage). So...probably 8 buuuut teeeeeeechnically there are some spells and abilities that prevent damage. There's also some enchantments that double damage (which would cause you to heal 16).

Job growth was down from last year

From what I remember, technically "lowest growth in six years", but that really doesn't mean very much.

Early in Obama's presidency due to the crash, unemployment was around 9% or so. It's easier for unemployment to go from 9% to 8% than it is for unemployment to go from 5% to 4%. So...it's not even necessarily clear which of the years are "better".

Either way, Trump's first year in office numbers are fine in terms of jobs. Continued growth even though there's already pretty good employment saturation, and even though the retail job market is currently in the middle of a collapse. Give him credit for this one.

By all means, if you are convinced he'll screw up eventually, keep watching the same metrics. If sometime in the future he does something that reduces the number of jobs in the country, such as kicking out a bunch of immigrants, you can nail him on the jobs number. If there's another 2008 level crash, nail him on the removal of 2008 stock market protections. For now, this number looks fine; probably similar to an Obama 9th year.

best scene is when Luke aggressively milks that titty, lots of layers there about going back to the source of the cash cow and showing you how the hot dogs are made. Wide kylo is pretty good too

I've spent all morning trying to reverse image search that to find the author; that's great.

Dick measuring contests have gone nuclear:

speaking of contests, trump has literally announced the Fake Newsies awards

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/948359545767841792

why does this have the exact same comedic timing and cadence as a dril tweet

Probably cause that's the kind of person dril has been parodying for a long time.

As someone who used to do speed runs (not well, but there wasn't much competition for Super Metroid back then and I briefly held the record when a new glitch was discovered).

I like to think about routes and strategy myself, using tools I know from the game. Which means completely game warping glitches, like you blow up a bomb in a place that glitches the map and the map changes, are a total turnoff for me (I hate watching 3D Zelda speedruns; to me they are terrible).

I also think having high freedom of movement and a lot of movement options is really important. The more creative you can get with a route and little movement tricks, the more you get these "aha, that was a clever" kind of moments.

Super Metroid is still decent to watch...but man, Mario 64 is better, and I haven't seen a game that even really matches Mario 64. Levels are extremely open giving a ton of route choices, and encouraging crazy jumps to distant parts of the level, there's a good six or so jump options all of which are relevant, glitches are generally quite minor "clipped slightly through a wall to get the star behind, ok sure".

(Granted, part of this wanting to think about routes and taking me back to my days of route planning means I can only really get into watching games that I've played and understand decently well; I'm sure there's probably games better than Mario 64, but not necessarily ones that I've played).

I really like TLJ.

8>5>4>7>3>6>2>1

Personally, as someone not at all really in the SW fandom, having only seen most of the movies once, (outside of a few comical internet review videos shaping my opinions)...

7>5>8>346>1>2

7 just really got me on an emotional level that I actually didn't expect out of the series. So don't worry too much about that placement I guess. Quite possibly the only one I've watched more than once.

I'm fairly critical of pacing issues in star wars, cause to me most of them are action flicks meant to be fun. TLJ had a lot of really really good elements, like I think Rey training with Luke was way better than Luke training with Yoda, but the movie had pacing issues so I hesitate to put it super high. Similarly with 2 on the low end of the spectrum. 2...I mean, honestly, I felt 1 succeeded as a "turn your brain off and watch explosions" action flick, whereas 2 just kind of put me to sleep in the middle.

I'd need to rewatch 3/4/6 to order them. I remember them all being solid. But I've also seen internet complaints about all three since I saw them that would probably make me notice stuff that would bug me.

The one thing I still dont understand

is why people keep acting like Star Wars is some divine franchise way more epic than any other. Only one of the nine current live action movies is great, arguably four or five good to meh ones, and three downright bad. We should really stop puting this franchise on a pedestal.

I mean, I felt like that before Episode 7. (Hell, my feeling of episodes 4-6 was "solid action flicks"). Episode 7 really got me excited for Star Wars again, though.

Episode 8--while I feel had pacing issues, I think I'm going to look back on very fondly when the dust settles. (Basically I'll mostly think about all the scenes that didn't have Finn and Rose in them).

Ok, for starters, might as well link the full clip, since the tweet ends early before the third family is shown:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-the-tax-bill-will-affect-three-american-families/

That said, there's some very specific points in the tax bill I take issue with.

For example, it gets rid of the state and local tax deduction. Hence people in states with high tax from their state will get additional taxes. One of the three examples given here was in a high taxed state (California) but the example they give is a family earning over $300,000, and the tax breaks are larger in that salary range. My guess is that with the median household income in California being $60,000, a number of people will end up paying more.

For a more detailed analysis, NYT did a case study involving 220,000 people instead of three:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/17/upshot/tax-calculator.html

It finds similar results (most but not all people will be paying less--75% pay less, 25% pay more).

------------

All that being said, sure, everyone likes getting more money; maybe I'll get less money cause I live in California, but I haven't filed my taxes yet so I'm not sure yet.

That said, look, giving people some extra money is the nice upside of the bill, but this upside isn't free. The bill does have downsides, like being projected to add $1.5 trillion to the US debt.

Erica Garner (daughter of Eric Garner) who became a big activist after her father's death from police...is also dead now:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/erica-garner-activist-dad-eric-garner-died-police/story?id=52058445

Sounds like a natural death from a heart attack, but either way sad to see her go, she was a pretty strong activist.

I mean, yes, I care about things that will affect me (or affect people I know) so I don't mention foreign policy too much.

That said, I care about foreign policy waaaaay more than I care about Trump tweets. (Seriously, if every post in this topic about a trump tweet was replaced by a post about foreign policy instead I would be happy).

The argument I've heard is that due to America's tax rates and the bizarre policy of taxing foreign income, those companies are holding their money out of the states and can't bring it in without losing 35% of it. The idea behind lowering taxes on them is that they can afford to bring the money back into the states, which would be good for the economy.

At least, that's what I was told when I talked to someone I know in accounting.

From what I understand this is true, but it's also not the full story, cause like...

this is not the first tax bill that has done this. Several tax bills recently have included a "tax holliday", which basically waives the taxes that companies would normally pay when they bring all their money back into the US.

No, it was gwendolyn christie in the suit in TFA. She's like 6'3" IRL, which is how she got her role in Game of Thrones.

Question: Was Phasma really a woman?

I mean, she has a female actress who refers to Phasma as female, so yes:

The entire point of the character was to have a "female Vader" for toys, yes

It was supposed to be a Bobba Fett style character (not Vader). Originally in the script it was a minor character written for a guy, but then they realized that they had no relevant female villains at all in TFA, and it was a pretty easy character to re-cast with Gwendoline Christie.

By and large it's been the fans who've been like "wait, if you're going to have a female villain, we want to hear more about her, and she should have more than 60 seconds of screen time."
