The thing is, Collins is already pro-choice, furthermore, if were being honest, theres far better and more effective ways to protest than what theyre doing. The distasteful nature of the protest is just the icing on the cake to the overall impotency of such a protest to begin with

You say you're not discouraging protest, then turn around and discourage protest. This makes your statements categorically disingenuous.

If you support their issue and have a better way to protest, then by all means, do it yourself.

If you oppose the issue, then any statement against nonviolent protesters will come off as trying to hush them. Support the peoples' right or stand aside.

I agree. I wouldn't call this protest, though. They are not bothering anyone. If you stop the streets, or put coat hangers in places where they will actually have an impact on peoples' lives, that's a good idea, and that's protest.

Protest does not mean signs. It doesn't mean standing in front of a government building. It doesn't mean blocking traffic or clashing with the fuzz.

Any speaking, any outspoken message, is protest. That's what the word means. It's what it's always meant.

Sending a clear message to an elected official is a form of protest. Collins knows what this message means.

I dont see anyone here saying you shouldnt protest but yea thats a good statement

They're not directly saying it, but it's implied pretty clearly.

This protest is decidedly nonviolent. Anyone trying to force a distaste for the message is only promoting discouragement for protest.

Interesting, if a little sensationalist. I'm not entirely convinced, though. He makes a fair bit of generalization in there. I think it's the classic "TV will destroy a generation" thing. We'll find a new aspect that affects society, and we'll level off and compensate.

And of course, none of that article has anything to do with socialism, only providing evidence that there are people who will do nothing if given the option, and I wasn't disputing that. Believe me. I've been to CE.

There are some of us out there who actually want to do... something.

Meh, never understood this. If money wasn't a thing I'd never work another day in my life. I'm not even struggling financially but I like having money because it buys me fun stuff

and this mentality is precisely why socialism would collapse economies and the standard of living

The question is how prevalent is this mentality.

Forgive me for making generalizations, but this does seem to be a common thread particularly among those of us who inhabit online circles as a matter of lifestyle.

Saying for example "Me and all my Overwatch playing buddies would be perfectly happy doing nothing for the rest of our lives and not contributing to society" doesn't take into account all the people out there who *aren't* playing Overwatch. So to would it be the case with people who hang out on CE all day.

What I'm suggesting is that the desire to be a "do-nothing" is not how society and humanity conducts as a majority, and I present our current modern society as evidence of that.

For example, explain actors and athletes with all the money and comfort they'll ever need, and why there are so many that get involved in social causes. I mean, why should they, right?

In the end, I think suggesting that socialism will lead to humanity coming to a full stop in progress is unprovable at best, and false at worst.

At any rate, I think Hannity trying to jump in front to discredit the Dem standout from the recent elections is gonna ultimately backfire on him. He has plenty of ammo to focus on the Dem core being corrupt and the fact that Republicans will soon have de facto control of the SCOTUS. Attacking this spunky young upstart makes him sound like the old curmudgeon that he is.

He could literally ignore Ocasio-Cortez. Treat her as a nothing that doesn't matter because look at all this other power that the Republicans have. By singling her out, he's giving her platform legitimacy.

That's what I'd do if I were an asshole.

My design is going to be the Statue of Liberty's torch and hand holding it.

And I was thinking of going as minimalist as possible and putting only a small number of words at the bottom (or maybe top?). I was gonna cop from New Colossus (the poem made for her pedestal).

At first I was considering putting simply "GIVE US", but then I realized the line is actually "Give me your tired...". Putting "GIVE ME" seems a little weirder and in shaky context.

Now I'm considering "I LIGHT A LAMP" but I wonder if that's too many words and I might have to crunch them to make them visible.

Any thoughts? Other words from New Colossus you think might work?

Also, feel free to come to this, as I did, being like "oh yeah, Wolfenstein New Colossus, that makes sense now". Then be like "oh hey, didn't BJ recite some lines from it at the end of New Order?" :-P

My big problem with the idea of "making every choice count" in a game like DBH, Heavy Rain, and B2S is that there are times you are given prompts and cannot interpret them. I'm watching the end of the game right now and Connor can say things to Hank, and there's the just a prompt that says "Hank" and you have no idea what it actually means.

Having your statements and actions (and inactions) mean something is fine, but one has to know the action they're taking when they make a decision. It has to be clear. There's a reason Telltale prompts are more than one word.

Let's back up a tick, Sway. You entered this topic complaining because David Cage games that "do things different" get over-criticized whereas the usual AAA yearly-release tripe gets a pass. Now you're tying Japanese games that get passes despite their failings.

Neither of these things are actually true. The AAA dreck and the Japan tiddy games both get their due of criticism for it, but that's not the point of this post.

My point is that my response of him having "multiple chances", while maybe not saying exactly what I wanted to say, meant to imply that the David Cage routine is not "doing something different" at this point. He has the same tired problems he's had for four games, and with DBH, he's introduced new ones.

So no, David Cage doesn't get a pass for trying something different, because for him, this isn't different at its core. He gets more money to make bigger game engines and hire bigger actors, but in the end, he keeps making a lot of the same mistakes.

And quite frankly, the idea of narrative-focused low-action games isn't different at this point either, even in the West. Telltale and Dontnod have been putting up showings in that field, and while not perfect, they're decidedly not making the mistakes Cage is.

And the REASON we give Cage in particular such a hard time is because he's so stuck up his own ass about being the auteur he thinks he is. I mean, name me a person in charge of Telltale or Dontonod who has "taken control" of their company to produce "their" games as a brand name. David Cage pokes his bald-ass head out there, begging to be bopped.

Ah, you're right. I forgot about the Darksaber.

Yes, despite the apparent goofiness of the concept, the Darksaber is a lightsaber. It was made by the first Mandalorian to ever be inducted into the Jedi Order.

Actually, now that you mention it, the Darksaber (and the events around it) bring up a point that a lot of people wrestled with in the past: what does it feel like to wield a lightsaber? Is the beam weightless? The episode in question basically suggested that an activated lightsaber's beam kind of "pulls" at the user with its own force, making it difficult to effectively wield, compared to a solid stick or blade.

And it proves that, with proper training, anyone can wield a lightsaber. It's just ultimately easier for Force-sensitives because of their self-control of their bodies.

Well, it's the color the crystal emits, if that's what you're asking.

If you're asking from a narrative standpoint, eh, it fluctuates.

Prior to the prequels getting groundswell, books, comics, and games had a rainbow of colors for lightsabers.

Once the prequels gained traction, it was pretty much blue and green for good guys, red for bad guys, but some works would insist on odd colors. Sam Jackson got his purple saber because he goddamn asked for it.

These days, there aren't enough lightsabers in the sequel trilogy (or anything that came out in the EU) to establish whether there's differences in color.

The only person to buck the trend is Ahsoka Tano in Rebels. Hers are silver-colored.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think there are some sabers in comics I haven't remembered.
