I also don't see how "March 7th" "makes more sense" than "the 7th of March" when they mean the same exact thing.

But what about 03/07/2018 vs 07/03/2018? Depending on where you're from, one might mean March 7th and the other July 3rd, or it could mean 3rd of July and the other 7th of March.

As an alternative, let's just get rid of all notions of having months and just switch to numbering the day of the year (YYYY-DDD with today being 2018-066).

It seems like a shitty thing to do to others, but there is a reason behind the procedure.
