Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, the dude on Big Bang Theory and the Pakistani guy on Silicon Valley have had very successful careers without being Apu knockoffs. While it sucks that they grew up with Apu and the guy in brown face in Short Circuit as their only real representation, they've still managed to be successful and change that. The first one was probably the worst because I was a teenager and didn't know what was happening. I just woke up in the night and felt pressure that eventually escalated to terrible pain. I literally thought I was dying. The relief was when it let up for a bit and I pissed out some blood.
