With all due respect, I understand where the issues are popping up. But I'm not going to back off because a bunch of people got mad that I said they seem like they're being overly harsh. I was busy, and provided what explanation I could at the time, but frankly... I don't need to do more. I could say Peaf is stupid and ruins everything he touches and I don't need to explain that any more.

As LTM put it, I haven't earned people's respect, they haven't earned mine. Same thing with Corrik. People treat him like he's a dick because he is one. He treats people like dicks because they are.

I'm really bad about responding when people respond to me, but believe me, I'm ready to drop it. I know it didn't add anything to the conversation anyway.

I don't need to? My argument wasn't "you guys are being unreasonable", it was "You guys appear to be unreasonable, and this is why I think I feel this way".

Literally, from the first phrase I said in this conversation, I said that it was my perspective which was different because I am a teacher. I never said "you guys are assholes for ganging up on Corrik", I said "I feel that this is unfair but my feelings are maybe due to me being a teacher". I then explained why being a teacher mattered towards my perspective.

A lot of those things don't necessarily need explanation. Corrik says something that is pretty easy to understand. People provide counters that are not necessarily contradictions. Duh? A huge part of my job is behavior management. When people act in a way that does not suit proper integration into society, my role is to correct and advise. Otherwise, when they get into society, the way they act will lead to them losing out based on their behavior. It is more effective to correct this behavior and treat them as they should if that behavior never existed.

I said that, even having had negative interactions with him in the past, I still tend to default to starting off seeing people from a blank page. That's why a bunch of people getting all in a tiff with Corrik looks like people just overreacting - from the gate, people seem to be aggressive.

I've stuck up for Corrik in the past, and then we keep talking and I wonder why I ever stuck up for him, but then I leave him alone sometimes and I start to see some overly-aggressive behavior creep in against Corrik like what Nekos is talking about (no comment on this situation because I ain't reading all that), and eventually I have to decide if the circle's going to be broken or not.

It just seems like people are aggressively attacking him. The teacher part is because I recognize that people might respond "it's Corrik, he's always a jerk" and part of being an effective teacher is not letting past negative interactions have an effect on your teaching. Yeah, it comes from Mathematicians and educators.

The biggest problem that a lot of these techniques have is that they don't suit everybody. Some students will be better able to understand the thought process that explains the difference between 5x3 and 3x5, and they will be able to run with that style. These are your students who are in pre-calc as Freshmen.

Some students don't understand it because, even if some techniques better match mental arithmetic, the correlation between the question-technique-result is too much to comprehend and they have trouble.

Realistically, most students fall into the middle, where being able to follow directions leads to success and they don't have to understand why. That's how most of our society works, after all.
