Can't remember who but was reading some economist saying how the unification would really hurt S. Korea's economy if it had to rebuild N. Korea and it wasn't worth it. Wished I could have saved it. Had interesting talks about it with coworkers.

But that's playing with a situation where North Korea is suddenly handed to Korea all at once

Ceding the land peacefully and OVER TIME will mitigate that

Ahh I see what you mean. I just can't really envision that happening but honestly anything to get both countries unified or at least helping out the N. Koreans people is good by me.

I like to think of that as just solving the problem by tossing money at it. It's always a better option than going to war and getting my fucking relatives killed for some shit they probably don't even care about.

Personally though, I wonder if the war would even take place much in South Korea. NK has even stated they wouldn't bomb SK, though obviously we can't put much weight on their words. It's just that it'd have to be some other country starting some shit

The only way to reasonable, feasibly, peacefully unify is for the DPRK to cede land piecemeal to the South
and unconditionally surrender

His arrest isn't even worth being mentioned. Nobody in their right mind considers old DJ to have been actually arrested. It's actually a point of honor, to have been imprisoned for fighting back against tyranny. Rather, you're the strange one for mentioning that in the first place, when discussing this kind of topic. It's like saying 'Hey, Nelson Mandela was in prison once. Just FYI.'

Sure he might come out as dirty and do time. But he hasn't murdered anyone yet so he's doing better than his predecessors.

Kim Young-sam and Lee Myung-bak didn't murder anybody either, and they're dimensions better than the failure sitting on top at the moment, even before considering possible corruption for Moon..

A person asked if any former president had never been in prison. I said Kim's name but it was trumped up charges. The implication being it was unfair/not the same. It's not like I randomly brought it up. Can you not follow that? I'm not even trying to be disrespectful I'm honestly curious.

As for the Moon and others thing. I mean Young-sam had the IMF fallout and Myung-bak is currently being investigated. I haven't seen Moon do anything to be labeled a failure. The only thing you have said about him is he is a failure and he is corrupt like the rest with no points?

Yes, but if so, they were disgraced in other ways.

Kim Dae-jung is the cleanest and most upstanding one they've had. He was arrested under trumped up charges though.

Lee Myung-bak is under investigation as well. So basically Moon Jae-in is the second greatest Korean president by default. (I like him though).

Kim's arrest shouldn't count since those were the dark days of totalitarianism and Park Chung-hee silencing his political rivals. While I greatly disagreed with the way he ran the country he's probably the best we had.

Lmao at Moon being anywhere near 'great'. His time in the clink will come once his term's done. Being the incumbent does wonders for covering up your dirty secrets.

I can't link it right now but on Youtube there is a comedian round table where comedians talked about this photo shoot.

It was Sandra Bernhard, Bob Saget, Roseanne and Patrice O'Neal.

I don't hate the attempt at satire even if I think it's unfunny/stupid. But Patrice called her out in a joking way and even made his own joke and she got pissed and said "Oh that's not right" and got offended. Just an eye rolling response from her.

Look it up, Patrice killed the room with the joke.

If you can't tell from the title, I'm being facetious.

The movie is King of Kings. It's not very good from a religious standpoint, but it is a technically sound film.

It just struck me as kind of amusing to see a 1961 movie with a black soldier in full Roman regalia when the same thing today would elicit criticism for being forced. What do you do when you want to complain about the historical inaccuracy, but the internet won't be created for another three decades?

Black people were in Roman society back then. Maybe they even became Centurians?

Maybe Jobba pulled a Blazing Saddles after Gladiator finished? >_>

There actually were black Roman citizens in the Roman providence of Africa, which was in modern day Libya iirc.

And there was actually a Roman emperor from that providence.

Yeah Roma civ was pretty legit for their people by comparison. As long as you accepted the Emperor you were good.

you think altruism is inherent in human nature? so do you believe that the good people are clearly the majority in this world?

It's not a good vs bad thing. It's an existence/survival thing.

A person can't survive alone. We are social creatures dependent on others. We need to be a little altruistic to survive. It's a basic thing of humanity.

The good vs bad (or even evil) are simply the motivations the person has.

Are you helping others because you want to make the world better (and helping yourself by proxy? Then you are good.

Are you helping for selfish reasons where the sole goal is to help yourself but not necessarily hurt others? Then....not bad but kinda dickish.

Are you helping others for ill gotten gains that take advantage of someone? Then your evil.

So it's a mixed bag. There are levels of altruism (volunteering, donating money, etc...) and levels of goodness with each act. So it's all depending on the person and situation.

TLDR: All humans are altruistic but that doesn't necessarily mean we are all good.

all humans are altruistic? you really believe that? i don't.

Can you find me one person who has never EVER done something nice for someone in their entire life? Big or small. Altruism isn't just donating to charity or volunteer work. Simple acts of kindness are altruistic.
