I'm finally glad to see this series return to its roots. I never liked what it had become; simplifying gameplay to a beatemup and making the series dark and edgy. Not to mention all the Cynder fanfics and arts floating around.

Does anybody here play Descent? Im looking for advice. Ive recently demo'd the first quest to a bucnh of friends and they seem interested in a campaign. But I've also got some expansions that add stuff. Do I just toss em in? I have everything except Labyrinth of Ruin and the Trollfens. I dont know how much the difficulty will skew.

Hate may have been a strong word, but I do remember people complaining that it felt uninspired, derivative, formulaic, bland and others were angry that it 'was not true 3d' whatever the eff that means.

I guess it was people just wanting a new game like SM64 and yelling that they didn't get their way.

It is uninspired. It felt like the game was just an excuse for 3d abstract levels. It felt a bit too simple.

Luckily that latter reason is easily remedied by the game's extra levels, but it still uses the same rehashed level design albeit with different (sometimes unfair time based) rulesets.

It's hard to play Mafia where I am. The best I can get it is on chats (forums take too long). So when Resistance comes along in an age when boardgames are now a thing, there's a whole lot more casuals to play around with. That is to say, I wouldn't refuse a serious game of Mafia which simply doesn't exist for me.

I didn't say I didn't like euros, just that I don't prefer them. But I'm not a purist as to completely reject good euros. And there are bad Ameritrashes as well :D I can appreciate a good Euro when I see one

EDIT: I'm actually too lazy to check if I did say I hate Euros. I'm clarifying haha

I love Resistance when it first came out. It's like it fixes all the things that made Mafia inaccessible to noobs: The constantly open information, the lack of elimination, the importance of vanilla roles (for Avalon which had special roles). Resistance was able to make me retroactively appreciate Mafia.

Monster is way better than 20CB and this general belief otherwise baffles me

For me its the pacing. There was alot of non sequitur moments in there that appeared to drag. But i like how everything eventually came together by the end

I think maria is right in that steins;gate is what made it a big trend currently but I think that YU-NO is what inspired so many VNs to have time travel/alternate universes in the first place. could be wrong though.

Also, I mean I guess you can see it that way but it was never really about the ability to do so (it was kind of involuntary / reactionary an ability). The show/manga's more endearing quality is on the protagonist's moral compass and the lengths he goes thru to save 3 women in his life.

I think ttgl is more of a nod towards the genre of super robots over the years. It starts all 80s then moves to 90s tropes and deconstructs itself midway. Not a fan of the show, that's just what I've been hearing alot

Thanks for the Hitman order suggesst. I recall I did start with the first game hack then and was extremely turned off by it hence my aversion. I assumed every Hitman was like that.
