I mean the two resets were what? I think at most like 10 minutes? I'm not saying he expected to reset twice there, just that disaster is a pretty strong word for it.

I wouldn't say it's a disaster. It's still early and I feel like he probably had to account for this in the estimate.

Yeah after resetting on weedle the first time I'm surprised he didn't save the second time. Resetting again is kinda awkward.

Ok, so that's a pretty clever and convenient as hell mechanic/exploit to enable this run. Yellow runs slightly slower than red/blue. You can take advantage of this to desync the two games.

For example, if you're in the same battle in both games, and you need to use a potion in one, but not the other. Can't just go ITEM -> USE, because that would use it in both. So you go PKMN -> STATS, then immediately press B. Since red/blue runs faster, your B input will exit the stats page while Yellow takes an additional frame or so to process opening the stats page. So red/blue is back on the pokemon list and you can go back to using your item without simultaneously using it in yellow.

Just got pokeballs and this is already as entertaining as I hoped.

I've never enjoyed the TAS block much. I do enjoying TASes in general, just not what I'm watching GDQ to see.

I was talking to an Arkansas fan during the 8th inning of game 2. He said if they blew game 2 he wasn't going to bother watching game 3. I chuckled after I saw the final result.

SMW had some disappointing deaths but overall showcased a lot of neat and impressive tricks I hadn't seen before.

It was definitely on the stream. I can go back and watch later, was just curious because it was so loud in the room you couldn't even hear his voice at all, much less discern what he was saying. I'm curious how much the audience noise is picked up.

Every time the water music played during the smb1 race, the whole room started humming along in unison. That was pretty cool.

You can see outside the door there are more games in the hall. It's a handful of classic arcade games. TMNT, The Simpsons, Dungeons and Dragons, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, some shoot 'em up, puyopuyo tetris. A few others.

Like, live music? Not that I'm aware of.

We were playing 3v10 in the game I was werewolf. We had two regular werewolves, of which I was one, and the third was a "wolverine" which, after the night phase, if the wolverine is the scum sitting closest or tied for closest to the kill target, the moderator announces it, basically. So it gives town some information to work with to narrow down over time based on where the kills were and whether the wolverine was the closest to the kill.

Well anyway, when he said werewolves wake up and look around the first time, we saw were all three sitting in a row, lol. I was so afraid that it was going to be the middle guy as wolverine, and then after a few kills town would figure out it's a wolverine sandwiched between two wolves. Thankfully that was not the case.

Wait how do you play Werewolf with multiple rounds? Also you should look into Werewords, the superior version of Werewolf.

You just repeat day/night cycles until all werewolves are dead or werewolves have equal numbers with villagers.

Oddly, I think day 3 was the earliest town decided to lynch someone in both games I played.

There also this very weird rule about masons. Nobody is allowed to talk about the masons, even indirectly. Anyone who mentions or alludes to the fact masons exist dies that night. Like Fight Club or something.

I mean I was having a good time. Not like I'm just walking around raging at everybody in sight. There was the codenames game thing which encompassed all of 5 minutes. Plus I slept until late into the afternoon.

I'm not sure I would say the N64 has graphics which are objectively better than the NES.

tl;dr: I played a game with strangers, made a (correct) judgement call, and a guy on my team got so put off by me not gaining team agreement that he quit and left the board game room

So anyway the gist of codenames. You have a grid, like 6x5 or something of cards with random words on them. Kangaroo, compound, poison, sink, shoe, etc. were examples.

Two teams. Each team has a code master. The code masters see a layout of which words are their team's words and which words are the other team's words, and which are neutral.

On your team's turn, the code master gives a single clue word, along with a number which indicates how many of your team's words are supposed to connect to that clue. You talk amongst yourselves and decide which words your clue master is indicating, and touch one at a time. As soon as you touch a word which isn't your team's word, your turn ends and passes to the other team.

I'd met some people and was playing this game. Having a good time, it's 4am, whatever, we're all saying dumb shit and not really caring how the game goes. Just laughing.

Well one time our clue from our code master was "Dancing, 2", meaning 2 words on the grid which are our team's words correlate to dancing. One word was "square", which we all immediately agreed upon and touched it and had it confirmed correct. So then we had to decide on the other word.

One of the words was "shoe", and I was like "Ok, it's clearly shoe, right guys?" I can't possibly remember the full grid but the other words were like...bell, force, sink, compound, kangaroo, platypus, dog, row, cross...idk, like 10 other words which just had no chance of being correct. I said each word aloud and nobody could present a case for a word other than shoe. My two teammates continued scratching their heads thinking hard. After like 30 more seconds I basically repeated myself and was like "how can it not be shoe?" Again nobody had an answer but they just WEREN'T READY to commit or agree.

Out of impatience I just touched the "shoe" card without their consent. Our code master was like "finally" and marked a point indicating I was correct. But my teammates were so put off by me not gaining their approval first that one of them literally got up and left the board game room and did not return. Under the basis of since it was my first time playing the game, I obviously didn't have the authority to make such an audacious call. Even though I was literally confirmed right immediately, and it was a blatantly obvious clue.

This is way off topic really but I just had to vent about that. Jesus.

Well I'm also the guy who got a lot of flak during AGDQ for saying SpikeVegeta was super cringey. Still blows my mind how that's not the popular opinion.

Yeah I thought the cuphead run was hilarious and fun. The quick kills did seem kinda lame but there was still awesome stuff happening on screen and the commentary was good and funny.

Yeah, again, I think the sound is better on stream than in the room. Plus constat chatter and applause and stuff.

Something this GDQ has taught me: I don't enjoy speedrunning for the sake of it if I haven't played the game and the commentary isn't engaging. Even if it's a popular/difficult game or the gameplay is impressive on its own.

Sounds obvious now that I typed it out. But, yeah. Walked out of CupHead because I haven't played it, couldn't understand every third word of commentary, and thus was getting no enjoyment from it whatsoever.

Hey, Dragonfangs here. This was kind of a shitty thing to happen but honestly I can't feel anything but happiness and pride over the full race.

I've been planning, practicing for, and looking forward to this race for several months now. When I realised what happened I really expected despair to set in and I thought I might start crying, but it just never happened. Too much adrenaline in my system maybe, I dunno.

Nobody did anything wrong, shit just happens sometimes and it sucks. But I was happy with my play before it happened, and that race was still INCREDIBLE. Massive shoutouts to my co-racers and the couch for helping me create a great piece of entertainment in the end.

The ZM group went out for food afterwards and the only thing we were talking about was how happy everyone was with the race. Including me and John absolutely failing to do a friendly fistbump after my console died.

I have no regrets. One of the best trips of my life.

The Shadow Warrior run was certainly something. It's a pretty amusing 15-minute watch. If you've never heard of the game (I hadn't), it's basically like old school Doom.
