Other acts of his administration might have sown certain seeds of future issues, but I'm not informed enough to comment on this in detail. FDR is so overrated it hurts though. --- |

When he died, he requested in his will that they be freed, with his favorite being given a pension for the remainder of his life. I believe Jefferson had a lot of good ideas in spite of his racism and slaveholding, and with this taken into consideration, his views - and the views of others like him - must be taken based on the merit of the ideas themselves, not the character or actions of the individuals who espoused them. --- |

Iran has over double the population of Iraq, it is much more ethnically and religiously homogeneous, and has a lot of rough terrain, often in close proximity to major population centers(such as Tehran). There is no reasonable opposition party which would cooperate with us(and even if they did, they would lose all legitimacy by doing so). There are no ethno-religious fault-lines to be leveraged to make things easier. We wouldn't be fighting insurgents in flat lands, but mountains and forests. A war of aggression and occupation would serve only to empower the worst people on Iran's political spectrum. It would make Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq seem quaint by comparison. Iraq (and Syria) have an awful lot of Shias, and Afghanistan (and a lot of the rest of Central Asia, particularly Tajikistan) have a lot of Persians. I could see insurgency against the inevitable occupation receiving significant support from people in these countries. --- |

They'll automatically discriminate against anyone who explicitly states they're under 6'0, but when they actually meet someone 6'0 or up (in my case 6'2) they're astounded by the height, like what did you expect? My closest friends are 5'5 and 5'10 and neither has problems pulling women - the shorter guy in particular has pulled an astronomical number of women, many taller than him even. --- |
