Sephiroth looked better if you take the Ryu match. He looked worse if you take the Amaterasu match. There is no consistent interpretation of Sephiroth in this contest.

I'd argue that it's fairly consistent in favor of the stronger intepretation of Sephiroth. There's reason to believe that Lara Croft has strengthened since 2013, given the success of females as well as the increasing of two other PS1 platforming characters. As for Wesker... well, he's around the fodder line and hasn't been measurable since 2010, not to mention Sephiroth's anti-votes are likely more pronounced against weaker opponents.

Still, I'm not entirely convinced of that, because Sephiroth was shown to be weaker than Tifa through a direct match as WELL as doing so poorly on Mario... Maybe Sephiroth was just not himself when he reached the legends bracket. Or maybe he was just that weak all along.

I also had a secret rivalry with creativename, in terms of average score. =P We've been neck-and-neck throughout most of the contest!

My x-stats estimations had Cloud above both Mario and Zelda... sadly I did not trust those calculations enough to actually pick Cloud in those matches. What a mistake that was.

If Tifa is legitimately stronger than Sephiroth, then Samus had a stronger round 1 of the Legends Bracket than Mario did. And since that's the only round where you can compare them and they seemed pretty even directly, saying Samus is stronger indirectly makes a lot of sense.

Only problem with that is I don't buy for a second that Tifa beat Seph. I trust Tifa/Samus as most of the weirdness this contest has been hentai rallies and the general SJWFF we saw in a few matches. If you trust Tifa/Samus and Tifa/Seph, that puts Ryu at a really really weak level which makes zero sense. The only explanation that makes sense across the board is the following:

- Sephiroth is around Mega Man/Crono level
- Zelda is also naturally around that level and benefitted greatly from her bandwagon and hentai rallies
- Samus/Mario 1 is an accurate representation of Samus
- Snake is the only real outlier here as Snake/Samus and Snake/Sonic can't both be accurate and still make sense in the grand scheme of things

I'm not sure hentai ralllies really made THAT much of a difference, but I see your point. Sephiroth looked stronger than Tifa in the main bracket, for sure. That would then imply that Mario is above Samus, which is actually what I thought was the case for a while, even after Tifa beat Seph. Until Samus stomped Snake and Mario lost to Zelda and Cloud. (to be fair, Mario is slightly above Zelda based on the Cloud matches)

If Sephiroth really is stronger than Tifa, I would believe that TIfa overperformed on Samus (she's done it before, albeit not the exact same circumstances) before believing that Mario is stronger than Samus. Or maybe that would mean Mario just overperformed on Sephiroth for whatever reason.

tennisboy was smart to pick Cloud the previous match given that both Luster and hylian picked Zelda. He had nothing to lose, after all.

Link currently has 60.20%. At this time in the previous Link/Cloud match, Link had 61.80%. If Link drops by the same amount... he ends up at 58.92%. Which is right inbetween tennisboy and Luster's picks! =O

For tennisboy to beat out Luster, Link needs to get 58.79% or lower. (if my calculations are correct)

What if Samus/Snake was accurate, though, and that Samus/Tifa was the match that was off (as in, Tifa overperformed)? I know that makes Samus ridiculously strong, but I'm just throwing that possibility out there! Isn't it funny how the only two opponents we have to measure Samus are opponents where Samus previously had debatably wonky match results with? In 2005 Tifa overperformed on Samus (and possibly 2013, too) and people still debate on whether Samus/Snake 2006 wasn't accurate, either....

That's why we need to see Samus vs. Cloud!

So the idea is that Zelda was fairly consistent all the way through Zelda vs. Sonic. And then Zelda increased in bandwagon strength through Mario/Zelda and Link/Zelda and now we have a stronger Zelda against Cloud. It actually sounds pretty logical. I don't think I would change KKP's placement of Zelda and Snake. Still, I wonder if Sonic really is weaker than Luigi.... granted, I like how Tifa and MMX are given some credit for their strength. And Luigi is placed above Bowser and Yoshi, which I think is correct.

Sephiroth's performance were really inconsistent. His matches against Captain Falcon and Ryu suggest the stronger Sephiroth, but his performances on Mario, Amaterasu and Wesker suggest the weaker Sephiroth. What's funny, though, is that even the weaker Sephiroth that KKP uses is still above Sonic.

I'm not good at introductions and such, so let's just mention some good things SBAllen has done this contest.

Thanks be to SB...

1) For remembering board 8 and giving us a 1-on-1 character tournament that we were craving for years. And the matches were 24 hours, even!

2) For creating the separate "Legends" bracket. It wasn't perfect, but it was a great way to keep historically strong characters from dominating the main bracket. As a result, we had one of the most challenging and interesting brackets we have ever had. The loser's bracket was a great way to give us some additional competition for characters that couldn't stand a chance in the winner's bracket. Quite honestly, the Legends bracket was better than most of the other ideas people were throwing around.

3) For dealing all the users complaints that come with every contest.

4) For the "Second Chance" contest, which was a fun way to re-kindle interest for those whose regular bracket was toast.

5) For the idea of registered users' votes counting twice, which did help limit the effectivness of rallies.

I'd appreciate it if some of you could also express your appreciation as well as mention any other good things SB has done.

I definitely second Cloud vs. Samus. Samus got screwed over by Mario twice, a character who has historically been Samus' achilles heel. Samus destroyed Solid Snake and thus deserves to have a fair match against Cloud.

Zelda may have a bandwagon, but if Mario wins, that means his two most recent wins were really close. And Zelda just finished getting crushed by Link, too. I feel that Mario is the more likely character to get a bandwagon for today's match. Not to mention he'll likely benefit from having lost a close match against Zelda previously.
Last of all, some voters will probably vote for Mario to avoid the Link/Zelda repeat final. I suppose Mario could get a few anti-votes for his shenanigans/cheating/clutch/stuffing, though.

But watch Zelda beat Mario, anyway. (though it will more likely be Zelda vs. Cloud)

I've done some analysis, and the outcome of Cloud vs. Mario tomorrow may depend on the following:

If Samus vs. Snake is accurate, as well as Tifa/Sephiroth, Mario beats Cloud with 53.74%
If Mario vs. Zelda is accurate, Cloud beats Mario with 51.63%

This is assuming Crono 2018 = Crono 2013 and Sub-Zero 2018 = Sub-Zero 2013.

(I wouldn't be surprised if both calculations are bad, though)
