I'm pretty sure twitter was the main source of the rally. we just tied it to tumblr because it's so sterotypically representative of undertale -- kinda like how we blamed the Tifa rally on hentai. Round 1 was definitely Tumblr helping out Undertale and I think Round 2 was mostly Tumblr too. It's in Round 3 when "undertale_bot" started causing havoc on the contest by tweeting about the match and getting a spike of votes that lasted for many hours. I think there will need to be some restrictions for an All-Fictional Character Battle to happen. We can't just allow any sports athlete into a contest just because they happened to be in a sports game. So it makes sense to ban all sports athletes from the contest, although this does not apply for characters that are heavily removed from their real-life depiction. Those who didn't participate in the original project could vote in a way that might change the overall winner. For those who did participate in the original project, they could make significant changes to their list to sabotage certain Pokemon that finished higher than they expected. Sailor Moon, Yami Yugi, or Spike Spiegel would have potentially higher ceilings, though I think it's more likely they all collapse laughably than look respectable. From the Yu-Gi-Oh series, the only characters that worth getting in are Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba. No one else from the series would be worth anything in a contest. His game almost doubled Bayonetta a mere 3 years ago, and then it broke 40% on Shadow of the Colossus. That's pretty respectable. Not crazy strong, but respectable. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/6110- Red Dead Redemption pulled off that result against Bayonetta 2, which is probably even weaker than the original Bayonetta. But the longer we go before doing that Console Contest, the stronger the Switch will become as a result of its growing game library. Even though the NES is an older system than the average site user, NES games in general suffer from the fact that not a huge number of people actually care about the NES games outside of Mario 1, Zelda 1, and Mario 3. At the same time, we do need more information on the strength of some characters since we got too many rematches in the Loser bracket. Sephiroth is still an unknown. We're not completely sure where Snake is at. The only type of bonus match I am opposed to running are matches involving fictional characters that didn't originate from video games. If Link drops by the same amount... he ends up at 58.92%. Which is right inbetween tennisboy and Luster's picks! =O It's not a sure thing that this match will follow the exact same trends as the previous Link/Cloud match. Link will drop overnight just like in the previous match, but Link continued losing percentage with the morning and day vote in the previous match. I think Smash can be blamed for that, since it came out during the previous Link/Cloud match. It might have explained why Link continued losing percentage during the second half of the match, as people were picking up their copy of Smash and were more focused on playing Smash than visiting the site to vote in the match. Lots of exciting matches in the later part of the contest was also exciting. The bad parts of the contest was doing the 6 day Thanksgiving break for people to fill out a Second Chance bracket. The break killed our vote totals and we never once got above 30000 votes after the break. This problem could have been solved by running bonus matches during the break. My idea for bonus matches during the Thanksgiving break would have involved the losers of the division finals being placed into a series of bonus polls. We would have gotten these matches: Vivi vs. Zero Pokemon Trainer Red vs. Kirby Aerith Gainsborough vs. Geralt Luigi vs. Ryu The winners of each match would move onto the next round (it would be a mini bracket of 8 characters) and we could have done one match per day during the 6 day Thanksgiving break. It would have solved the problem of keeping the site interested in the contest during the break. Another problem with the contest was the match pictures. I've done some hourly registered voting trend charts for select matches this contest and looked up the trend chart that looks most similar at the 12 hour point in comparison to the hourly chart I did for Cloud/Mario. At the 12 hour point, we had 50.50% registered users in this match. The closest comparison was Yoshi/Pikachu with 50.59% registered users at the same point in the match. I would prefer if we didn't enforce having to vote in every match but I think this current contest format otherwise is great I think this idea was just fine for Character Battles where it's at least more likely that someone will recognize one of the characters from each match and pick them. For a Games Contest, this would be a bad idea. It's a lot harder to sell people on the idea of voting for a game they've never played if you had a match where someone has not played either game.
