Pichu's a fucking god in this game. The sooner we non-Pichu players accept that and adjust to our new reality the better off we'll be.

There's a limit to how good Pichu can really be given how between recoil and its hilariously low weight, it pretty much puts itself at kill percent in the process of taking a stock, but dear god is it capable of being terrifying for the brief time it spends alive. Fights don't last long when that little rat is involved, that's for sure.

Beat Adventure mode this morning, final level/battle was pretty cool. Overall I liked the mode, it had some glaring flaws, namely that they used up most of their ideas early on so it got repetitive and the whole mode being way too in love with just spawning seven hundred things at once so you die because you can't see shit, but I had fun with it outside of a few overly annoying fights. I guess the biggest problem with it though is it ends up actually being horrible for trying new characters despite that supposedly being something it wants to encourage. With the skills you get and spirits providing wacky stat boosts, characters in WoL don't actually play the way they do for real.

I just decided to try Bowser yesterday and holy shit he's fast. He was buffed a lot in Smash 4 but still relatively slow, here he's as fast as any other character and that's scary.

His aerial side B is an absolute terror now, used to be if he jumped you could just hold shield and not care much about anything but a YOLO down B, but his air side B got buffed from something like 15 frame start up to 6 frame start up, so shield is dubious at best against his air game when he can just yoink you out of it in a flash

For me he fell into the same trap a lot of the giant stamina fight opponents fall into...up tilt repeatedly and he falls into it every time and you win for free

Twice you've said that, twice I have no clue what you're talking about.

Spirits and skills give you all kinds of odd properties like boosted jump height, extra jumps, super armor smash attacks, extra damage/knockback, knockback resistance...it's basically its own entirely separate thing. WoL is actually awful for getting used to a new character because you don't actually learn how they play in the rest of the game.

Easy. You actually get the chance to use these fighters instead of rushing towards what you're familiar with.

World of Light actively discourages using multiple characters though. With spirits and the skill mode modifying your characters abilities, switching around means learning wacky new parameters for every character that don't exist in any mode, meaning the smoothest experience is to just stick to whoever you're already using because you're already adjusted to them not controlling normally.

So in all five generations I have never been able to play Link, but in Melee I played Young Link to some success.

He feels so AWESOME in this one. His F-air is LETHAL. And I just faced down a DHD who thought he was about that projectile life. HE WASN'T

He's a ton of fun in Ultimate, great mobility, minimal landing lag on most aerials, arrows recover super fast, so you can just pelt people with endless projectiles and follow up with aerials from quite a ways away. And for some reason his grounded Up B is an actual legit combo starter now, so that's a nice thing to do after you shield something unsafe

Man so many character in this game are so much fun. I'm loving Simon like I expected, K Rool is great...but man oh man is Mewtwo a blast to play. Going to be very hard to convince myself not to main him. And I still want to learn Peach at some point, but it's going to take a while to get used to her because I need to use a button layout I'm not yet used to to make float stuff easier.

That said, if I did I'd want it to be to Roy (Because the more I reflect on my Classic run with him, the more I'm convinced he's just a better Marth as opposed to a heavier Marth. Also Fire) or a super heavyweight and the only heavyweight I have is DK iirc. Unless Giga Bowser Boss Fight unlocked Bowser and I literally haven't visited the Character Select screen to check that since I beat it

I did the World of Light Giga Bowser fight last night and I'm pretty sure it brought up the screen for Bowser being unlocked

Roy isn't heavier/better Marth (although he might actually BE better this time) so much as aggressive Marth. He's all about going in and wrecking things up close while Marth wants to slow things down a bit and just keep people out with his range all day.

I'm starting to get pretty fed up with WoL honestly, it feels like almost every battle is just them throwing three or more enemies at you with rapid item spawns and stage gimmicks to ensure there's more shit on screen than you can actually see. For every fun fight there's like three that are just "seventeen thousand things on screen YAY" tedium

I've gotten most of the cast unlocked via Classic, with a bit of WoL and regular battles to get some others. Only about 11 left to unlock, and it's mostly clones or characters I don't care about. I think Cloud and Corrin are the only characters I haven't unlocked that I can see myself giving a damn about.

He's really good but he's not broken. Characters with good ranged attacks give him hell

Anyone that can force him to play their pace is trouble for him, whether that's the more mobile sword users that can quickly get into position to use their superior range, or fast rushdown characters that can get in super quick. He has tools to put up a fight, but he's not nearly as strong as he is against slower characters that give him time to just set up crown toss shenanigans non stop. He's like a heavyweight who specializes in wrecking other heavyweights because he's faster than most of them, has armor to counter their big hits and a legit projectile game (plus his recovery means he doesn't fucking die).

It's on a character by character basis, but mostly you can't. Samus has tilt/smash inputs for her side special to determine what type of missile she shoots, Simon/Richter has it to determine how far he throws his cross, and...that's all I can think of (barring Ryu/Ken, but they're a whole separate can of worms that you don't need to worry about unless you're trying to learn one of them). A few special moves can be angled a bit as well, but that's mostly up specials where you can adjust the angle they travel at to help recover better.

As much as I'm enjoying this game overall, the online is a huge blemish on it. The match making system seems to just prioritize free for alls above everything else, because finding a 1v1 is like a coin flip at best unless you just search battle arenas non-stop, which have a host of interface issues and are way too slow unless the host set it to only allow 2 people. They claimed they would sometimes not be able to give you your preferred format/ruleset because they'd prioritize connection, but they constantly throw you into laggy FFAs even though the 1v1s you get are mostly much better connections...

The Jeff spirit is the biggest brick wall for me so wall in WoL. Three Inklings with bonus projectile damage on a shitty map with projectile weapons spawning non-stop while an assist trophy periodically shows up to shoot rockets at you? They don't have derp AI or die super easy like most multi-enemy fights either, and you eat huge damage for getting hit by anything because they combo off it so consistently. So much damn stuff being thrown around it's hard to see what's going on

Well luckily it seems like last night my lag issues were just a fluke or a bad connection (playing at a time when no one else in North America was awake may have not been the best idea...) because today the online has been really good.

Also, hell yeah King K Rool, dude is so much fun to play. Every time you catch onto a bad habit of your opponents, he has the answer, whether it's armoring through things, countering/reflecting, a down throw that combos into kills at reasonable percents, tossing projectiles out to cover things, just raw power to punish stuff...I normally don't like slow heavyweights but with this dude and hopefully Incineroar once I unlock him, that might be changing for me in Ultimate.

Lol Jigglypuff just straight up killed herself with Rollout. Easiest unlock ever.

When I unlocked Falcon, I threw him over to the side of the stage and he just chilled there, ignoring the transformation until he was too far to recover. Thirty seconds or so of actual fighting followed by the AI just kind of giving up on life.

I got tired of World after a while but it's well worth playing. I don't like it as much as the previous games but it's still good.

Anjanath is kind of hard with hammer, at least when you're still new to the game or to fighting Anjanath in specific. He swings his head up down and all around pretty constantly, so it takes a while to get the hang of hammering his face in constantly
