1. Being able to make over 100k a year at any one job.

2. Christmas bonuses for people who already make a lot of money.

3. Mid-year bonuses (lulz) for people who already make a lot of money.

4. "Golden hellos".

5. "Golden goodbyes", especially for people who have been fired.

I can rationalise every point, pretty easily.

The first one, nobody needs to make that much money. The second point is pretty easy, too, since I think Christmas bonuses should be reserved for people with low and mid-paying jobs, since the other people already make a lot of money. This isn't hard to understand. The stuff referenced in the third point is ridiculous. I can JUST about understand a Christmas bonus, for the holidays, but wtf is the reason for a mid-year bonus? Pathetic. The fourth point, I said because you shouldn't be paid even though you haven't done anything yet. The fifth point was because I don't see why people should be paid just for leaving...and sometimes people get paid hundreds of thousands, after getting FIRED from a job. Most human beings who get fired don't get anything, and the company doesn't even allow them to have references for possible future jobs.

I don't understand why most of this stuff is even considered debatable. It's common sense.

Sadly, there are people who would probably die defending these ideas.

I just saw some video footage of Sonic Team Racers. I hadn't been aware of it much before, but it looks like a lot of fun. There's not gonna be another Mario Kart was ages, I suspect, so this might be pretty similar. Sad how the characters have vehicles, though, In Sonic R they just ran really fast, which made more sense.

That was pretty sweet, in a way. It had the 3 original tracks, the 2 newish tracks from a previous release, and 3 completely new tracks. Also, the graphics were improved quite a lot over the arcade original, of course.

It was quite good fun. Perhaps I wasn't enough of a racing fan at the time. Even with 8 tracks, it didn't exactly have loads of content, unless you include various rehashed ways of playing it, like reverse tracks, or mirror tracks. I must admit, the 3 new tracks weren't amazing. 1 was fun, but another 1 was quite simple, and 1 was just basically a circle, which is pathetic - not only was it very simple, but it was also pretty similar to the Triple Seven Speedway. For home releases, I think these arcade racing games need more tracks, or more modes or something.

According to the latest Forbes list, Zuckerberg is only 5th, and Bezos is the richest person in the world. It's possible I was wrong. Of course, the list was published a few months back, and it's possible that Zuckerberg had overtaken him by now.

I'm surprised if the BBC was wrong, though. They were complaining just the other day about fake news. In fact, I think they were complaining about it in the same discussion as someone saying that Zuckerberg was the richest person in the world. Kinda ironic.

I still don't know what someone would do with 130 billion dollars. I don't know what someone would do with 1 billion dollars. Even 1 million dollars would take me years and years to spend.

I knew he would be in the top 10, but I didn't know, and I had no idea any one person had THAT much money. Even Gates peaked at "only" something like $80b.

There's something not right about someone in their thirties having that much money. In a lot of ways, it wasn't skill or vision, it was being in the right place at the right time. Luck, basically. Plus, he's screwed a few people along the way, when he was probably going to be rich anyway.

This was posted today, regarding Brexit.

I was at my parents earlier and my dad's a prime example of one of these idiots. He tried arguing with me that the EU is just Germany trying to take over Europe and that when we voted out we should have left the next day. He said Merkel is a Nazi and remainers are holding the country back. He said the Euro is a joke currency and that Britain would be fine without trading without Europe because British people can do British jobs. He said I read too much fake news. He said I should be proud to be British and when I asked him why, give me a reason, he walked out of the room in disgust.

I don't know where he gets his information from but it scares me he's allowed to vote because all of his opinions are fuelled by some kind of fictional hatred drummed up between him and his mates and some kind of deluded future they see.

Even if someone makes it, it doesn't matter.

If someone becomes a professional painter, or writer, or part, or filmmaker, or whatever, people still don't respect who they are and what they do. Artists are seen as lazy and low down in society. People think because artists usually work less than 40 hours weeks, and work when they want, they're not proper workers. Apparently, a job were you don't produce something every single hour, and where your output in general isn't easy to qualify or quantify, isn't really a job. Most artists make little, and that's another metric that fail at. Of course, some artists are even lower down the apparent pecking order, such as writer and poets.

Society doesn't really respect artists. Oh, it wants the art, especially the popularist stuff, like movies and music, but it thinks little of the artists. It's sad, it really is.

I don't know. For years in the recession, I struggled to get even temporary shop jobs (I frequently had gaps in employment of 6+ months), so I doubt any office or whatever would hire me. To employees, I'm so new and exotic type of cancer.

Come to think of it, that last statement might be true. I've occasionally closed a place just by applying there, and during my first time at that one shop, it would into administration just after I left (although it did survive, and I worked there again).

I made $6.25/hr at my first job back when the minimum wage was $5.25. I was 15. By the time I was 18 and left that job I had taken on all sorts of responsibilities and was making $12/hr, which was pretty good money for a teenager in 2003. I don't really get people in their 20s and 30s that are working low wage jobs. How do you not have any skills? What have you been doing with the last decade of your life? I work alongside kids 20-22 years old who are pulling down $50,000/yr because they got real jobs at age 18 and gained skills and experience.

What are you and these people doing that you make so much?

I've spent the last 15 or so years working various minimum wage jobs (with several periods of unemployment inbetween), and apart from retail skills, such as working a cash register, working in a stockroom, and stacking shelves, I haven't been taught any skills by employers at all. I'm in my 30s, and the last job I worked I was paid about 7 an hour (which isn't much, especially with the UK cost of living crisis). Where did I go so wrong?

You know, working the first 2 jobs I listed, even paying the rent and buying things I liked, I still managed to save up over 20,000 (that's about $25,000, or possibly more). Sadly, I went through it all during the recession.

This is for all the people out there who work in cafes, nightclubs, shops, supermarkets, and so on. If you post, don't forget to prove you're "qualified" to post in this topic, but showing us your "credentials". Feel free to tell us what kind of job you work now, experiences at various jobs, both bad and good, how much money you've managed to save up at these jobs, people you've met, and so on.

For me...

Shop (cashier)
Supermarket (bakery assistant)
Shop (cashier)
Shop (floorwalker)
Shop (floorwalker and stockroom assistant)

Number 3 and Number 5 are actually the same company, which I went back to several years later.

These kinds of jobs really are pretty bad. Dealing with unreasonable customers, bullying and crazy managers, and the sheer tedium of it, especially being a cashier (nothing is worse than being a cashier). Plus, you know...getting paid about 7.50 an hour in the UK. Pathetic. Sadly, I'm not qualified for anything else, and it's doubtful that I will be any time soon. None of which would be too bad, if I wasn't already in my 30s. A job is a job, though, I guess.

You can't. Seriously, new moderators are only chosen a few times a year, and the minimum requirements for applying are very steep. Even so, hundreds apply, but only a few are selected. If you seriously want to be a moderator, you'll likely (but not always) need to have a history on GameFAQs that makes you recognizable to the majority of the user-base for several years to even be considered. Pestering the current moderators or admins to become a moderator essentially guarantees that you won't be selected.

Lol. You really think the requirements are THAT steep? That you have to be recognised by most of the users on the boards?

Anyway, why do you consider yourself such an authority? You've only been here for a couple of years. I've been here for over 16 years. I first arrived when they'd been maybe 3 batches of moderators selected.

Now, the idea doesn't seem to matter much. Being a moderator would probably be fun, but wouldn't be that exciting or anything, and people hate on you quite a lot. But when I was relatively new to the boards, and a lot younger, it seemed really cool.
