Congrats man. This might mean you are becoming an old-timer btw. :P

It's interesting that I have been around here long enough to see many others have kids. It's about time though. My youngest kid is turning 11 in 3 weeks. Back when I had my 15 y/o hardly anyone here had kids.

I do know one thing for sure though dude. You gotta be extra careful about letting the kids learn to sleep under those conditions or you'll be stuck holding her forever just so she can sleep.

I would suggest that you find a way to lay her down after she falls asleep so that she can get used to sleeping without being held.

Sometimes they do need the compression so either you could swaddle her nice and tight or I would even recommend some nights in a car seat if you got one.

I know for my kids they liked the car seat every now and then because they were strapped in. It's a security thing really but it calmed them down.

And since you are asking for advice about the sleeping patterns of a baby, you definitely gotta make sure you are never quiet! One of the biggest mistakes I see some parents make is that they think they need to be super quiet while the baby is sleeping. This is a mistake though because if they get used to sleeping when it is quiet damn near everything will wake them up.

You can easily fix this though by leaving a tv on near the crib or wherever you have her sleeping. Definitely trust me on that.lol

Otherwise you will find yourself in a situation that even talking while she's sleeping will disturb her and make her stir.

Yo Shad you're a Dad now? That's cool.

I don't miss those sleepless nights but I feel for you man. I had 4 kids in all so I got a little experience. No experience with girls though since I had all boys.

I'm betting you'll still be just as excited as I was though when they are grown out of diapers. :P

Hmm... it seems that this tune may have slipped higher than intended. I wonder what kind of ear I had the day that I initially ranked it because I'm hearing it now and I'm not sure what I ranked. I may have thought that it sounded like something else at the time because the beat is higher than I'd give it now. Fortunately for the song I couldn't even take points away at this point if I wanted to. Ah, I see. It got a bump for the message as the song is lyrically sound. It isn't among the norm for Classic Rock that I favor but it has a sound that owns the genre to a point. Other than that, on to the next song I suppose.

The 2nd tune from the Cars so far in this ranking. Not the worst and not the greatest. I personally think the band did it's best in the 80's though. Got a nice steady beat here though and it serves as good background noise at the pool hall. I don't have a ton to review here as far as my general interests go but the band does have a mild following. I didn't think this song was going to make it too far but it did well enough for being one of the last 20 songs or so that I added to the 70's list.

It looks like we are gonna assault the 70's for a few rankings since 4 out of the next 5 will be just that, from the 70's. Where are my Democrats at? lol. Of course anyone who knows what I mean knows that this was the selected campaign theme for many years by none other than Bill Clinton. It even appears at various Democratic conventions because of Bill. I'd say he could have done better tbh. It makes sense in a way considering the way he ran his campaign and he did win two elections so I guess it worked. Anyway, still far from my favorite Fleetwood Mac tune. It did fair on the charts but there aren't a lot of discussions going on about how great the song is or at least I didn't find much. It's the kind of song that can get rather annoying on multiple replays so I have no idea how it worked to win elections.

I can't remember if this was a fill in from another nominator but it obviously strays from all the other Metalcore that you nominated. It's got a standard Rock drum beat but it sounds like it's got just a little bit more in the rhythm imo. The vocals are unpolished if you ask me but not a whole lot was done perfectly in the 80's since most music was about the instrumentation imo. I still to this day have not watched all of Heavy Metal so I wasn't recognizing this from there. I have heard it plenty of times elswhere though. We are now getting very close to the 5 pointers. Hype!

Haven't heard this before this ranking and I'm surprised that with as few Country songs that made it on the list that this almost made the Top 1,000. I'm not a very big fan of Country music if I didn't already make that obvious but the video with this tune kinda softened me up and I took it humorously which probably made it easier for it to score points. Gotta get a kick out of the rhyming scheme used here too. It could be catchy if I gave it enough of a chance but that won't happen in my house. The wife hates Country music more than I do. The band won 5 or 6 awards in the last 3 years and were nominated for as many more so I'd say they are rising in popularity among the fans.

Anyway, STP in the house when they were growing in their popularity back in the 90's. It's a slow beat that never really speeds up so I don't really experience any sort of climax in the tune other than the last pass through the chorus. Not much else to give you here unfortunately.

Ouch! The 3rd song by The Who to fall short of the Top 1,000. That's something I wasn't entirely expecting when I started this. The thing about most of the music from these guys is that it's all just ok to listen to. There isn't a lot that you would ask a friend if they've heard it yet imo. It's good rock no doubt but I'm shooting for stuff that's a bit more memorable imo. This song didn't top too many charts but was a fair favorite among compiled lists in the genre at least to the extent of my research anyway. I would still tell any 70's Rock fans to check out this album though.

This is a pretty cool piece let's be honest but one thing I unfortunately didn't consider pre-ranking is that an instrumental which has no lyrics cannot score any points in the Lyric category really. (I mean it could score slightly if I feel like I'm getting a poetic message from the music) but for the most part there will be a lot of 0's in the stead of no lyrics. That being said I gave this a .3 because even though there are no words I'm pretty sure there is a powerful message behind this tune. It's a classic score for the Rocky fans out there obviously but anyone looking for a decent Pop instrumental may approve as well.

It's a very creative mix of sound and the backtrack is far better than the vocals and front instrumentation. I can almost ignore the vocals though and sink into that drum beat and background harmonics. There are a couple of nice riffs in the mix as well but there isn't enough to get nostalgic over although I'm sure fans of the band just may. Looks like you are running out of nominations though NBI. So.. I got the 3rd degree from the wife over this tune expecting to drop so low. She really was not happy that I told her it wasn't making it into the Top 1,000 at the least. It was one of her picks as you might expect and I don't blame her for liking the tune really. It is sort of iconic tbh and was a major hit for Blondie. It came out when Disco started to take a turn for near extinction and actually helped slow down the inevitable death of Disco. Nevertheless the genre would still meet it's fate in the early 80's. It's a really simple beat and the vocals aren't actually as terrible as I score them here. It's just that preferences and such if you know what I mean. I just noticed that we are getting really close to the 5 pointers though so in a manner of speaking this didn't do all that terrible. Is that a different language or just gibberish? (speaking of the chorus vocals in particular). It has a catchy bounce-your-knee effect but it isn't strong enough to go nuts over. There are better Savage Garden songs imo really. The 2nd tune in the Electronic Rock category and it actually pleases me that this knocks the Evanescence song off the list. Interesting tune for sure that I may have simply not bumped it higher because of unfamiliarity. It almost feels like it could be Progressive Rock but there isn't enough variance in the segments in the song. It does sound quite epic though on the other hand. Sadly it didn't chart as well as I was expecting after hearing it even for the first time. Perhaps it was simply a tune overlooked in an ocean of music that poured out of the era. I have added the band to my list of bands to check out at least so I thank the nominee for yet another stash of tunes to explore. The storytelling is decent even though I didn't pick up on all of it (actually I didn't really take the time to read all the lyrics like I usually do). With these rankings comes a ton of reading and sometimes I cut corners admittedly. Not sure if this will pop up on a ranking regret but I could see it going a little bit higher in a re-ranking.

There is absolutely no substance here in the message. It's just a for fun rhythm romp atleast until that last 15 seconds or so but I believe they've cut that out of the radio edit anyway. I do remember quite well when Chumbawamba hit the scene as I was a Sophmore in high school. Damn near everybody was screaming "I get knocked down..." lol. Perhaps one of the most recognizable intro riffs ever that most people have no idea who it came from. See what I did there? :P Anyway, perhaps even more popular and recognizable from the hit CBS show C.S.I. and I don't mean the spin-offs. Straight from the original. As you can see in the video, the late 60's/early 70's were a hell of a time for peace and standing up to the man. It was a time of major changes in the world when freedom of expression couldn't have been more in your face and I do believe the music here expresses that. Of course all of that is up to interpretation by the listener. Some would just say that these classic hits were a side effect to the drug infused hippie revolution but who cares about that generation since they are mostly dead by now anyway am I rite?

I was gonna say this was our first Post Grunge tune but I see we already got one from the Foo Fighters earlier. Who doesn't like a good Oasis tune. Dare I say it though... I don't think there has ever been a more "beatles wannabe" band in the world has there? Maybe it's just their style I dunno. They often make very melodic and harmonious music though and I can't wait till we get to my favorites from the band as I did include a couple of them. What's the Story Morning Glory was among the first few albums I got from BMG music years ago. Remember when you could get a dozen cd's for only a penny each? I do. Funny how that service didn't last for long. Maybe you still can get cd's like that but who does anymore am I rite? Anyway, this tune might seem more mediocre compared to the band's top hits.

I wonder what ever happened to this guy. This is literally the only song I've ever known this dude to be known for. I couldn't tell you if he did anything else tbh although I assume that since he has this on an album there is more right. It does give us a new genre though and to my memory it might be the only song in this ranking from said genre so it'll be on the update for awhile at least. I remember seeing this pop up on MTV for the first time back when I think Carson Daly was a VJ. Woah yeah, remember them? I kinda miss the good ol' days.

Oh geesh. I'm gonna be honest with you all again here. I was never a big fan when Santana had his most major popularity spree in the late 90's. I love that he can absolutely rock the guitar but I found most of his collaborations to be less than thrilling. I do like some of his original work but none of that made it into the ranking so I guess it doesn't say that much. I wonder what Santana felt like having to play next to Whitey Ford considering the two play at dramatically different speeds on a regular basis. Ford's tunes are usually simplistic in chord progression while Santana's fingers dance all over the fret board. They did it though and the result is ok. That's all I'll give it for credit here.

What??? How did this get higher than a popular Pink Floyd song?!?!? lol. I dunno, it did though. Here is a tune that comes straight from my wife's nomination list. She really did choose mostly 2010's for this ranking. She didn't have to follow the 3 per decade limit btw since she didn't want to be on the nominator list. I agreed to let her fill in wherever I needed nominations though so she did. There are far better Katy Perry songs though imo. This one just doesn't excite me as much because it's more pop and less catchy than I like but it still has an ok beat. Does anyone here think Katy Perry is attractive? I do sometimes but a lot of the time I don't get the hype tbh. You can tell she puts a lot of effort into her videos though which is great fanservice I'm sure.

Maybe it's because I've heard this song so friggin much that it fails to impress anymore. Notice that I did include all 3 parts in this ranking. Pink Floyd is awesome and I'll never disagree but this song just doesn't move me as much as it used to. It is a classic for sure but it's more of a story driven riff than something meant to jam out to imo although the guitar solo is pretty boss. As you would expect though it scores the most points possible in the Top 100 category. People love this tune all over the world and it scored at the top of multiple lists over the years. It has also appeared in many other forms of pop culture including tv, movies and even plays. The Wall was among the many cassettes I owned growing up as well and in fact I may have had multiples of it too.

Ooh um I dunno about those vocals. There is so much inconsistency in this tune that I'm not even sure what I'm listening to. I get that Progressive anything is multiple segments or riffs strung together but at the very least you would want everything to flow together cohesively. Here it sounds like a jumbled mess for the most part. There is a story here though but you get that with most Opera-esque music. I'm not 100% certain what it is about but it sounds like it's about death or the sort. Never heard of the band before but there seems to be an underground following for them. I feel like that is usually the case for these more gothic-like bands but that could just be a stereotypical assumption I guess. Anyway, nothing fantastic or memorable for me to enjoy here.

I remember when this song came out as Cher was making a big comeback in the late 90's and fans rejoiced but what happened exactly? I don't think I've heard much from her since then so I guess I really can't call it much of a comeback personally. Anyway, at least she doesn't sound as manly as she does these days. I remember thinking if she actually was singing the synth/bend at the end of her chorus and almost believed it until I later found out that of course it wasn't a talent of hers. I wonder how that works at a live show? (Never seen one where vocal equipment was needed) But I wonder if she just sings the song normal and no one notices or if she can manipulate her voice with the microphone or something. Why do I care? I don't, I'm just rambling at this point lol. Nothing much to say here honestly.

At around 3:08 into the song is the main reason I have almost fit this into the Top 1,000. I couldn't quite get it that far though because the whole song as a package doesn't quite entertain me completely. I do think that the song has potential to make it even higher on the list if it were to get a revisit since the most points it lost this time around were due to unfamiliarity. I'd easily let this play on the radio if it came up though since it makes decent back ground noise anyway. Going back to the main riff that I liked here though, doesn't it almost sound like something from Castlevania? I think it does.

If I watch the video to this song I seem to like it less because I can't get over the weird mouth movements this chic makes when singing lol. I didn't dock any points for that since that would be silly but I felt like pointing it out anyway. So I'm not so sure what the song is about but the video clearly tells a story of some single girl that is stuck in a redundant cycle of trainwrecking her life. I mean.. yeah it does sound like that is what the song is about lyrically too but what I'm not sure about is if she's blaming someone else or bragging that she loves single life or something. What makes even less sense is she seems to be trying to forget 1 person by fornicating with everyone? Or is she saying she has to be a s*** because she isn't in a serious relationship? I dunno it's beyond me I guess. Anyway, the song is ok.

RANKING RE-REVIEW #4

Howdy folks.

On the the fourth Ranking Regret we have...

A song that I have not been able to get out of my head at least 3 or 4 times a week since I dropped the ranking. Sia wasn't anyone that I even remotely thought I'd take an interest in before starting this ranking but I read up a bit on her mysterious career and her music has somehow become more interesting. This is an artist that has literally gone through some changes as she looks nothing like she did in this video. I know usually a performance artist will go through many stages as they find their true selves but in some cases the music they create really is a part of their metamorphosis. The melancholy and harmony in this song is near perfection imo as it definitely can invoke deep seeded emotions when a person's mind is weakened from the stress of life. And who doesn't like a good sad song from time to time? Anyway, the piano play is almost trance inducing for me as I love this sort of thing normally. The Piano was the first instrument I ever learned how to play to channel my musical inclinations.

An oldie but goodie as they say. Definitely a hippie's anthem of sorts imo. I actually just heard this on the radio yesterday which is kind of funny because I didn't realize that I'd be ranking it today. It's most definitely a favorite among Steely Dan fans and is one of the band's more notable songs from their careers. Why is it so low then? Welp... it is from the 70's and as I think I stated somewhere before, I have a very specific interest from the decade that overrides my opinion of everything else. The 70's were a time when most music actually had meaning as many songs were about breaking from the norms of society and dealt with real world struggles... I mean within reason I suppose as I got a buddy that'll tell me that in the 70's music was mostly about sex, drugs and fighting the power! Whatever that truly means from his perspective since he was born in the early 90's lol. I saw it as a time when music was more authentic since most musicians really had to become one with their instruments and they did. Some of the greatest guitar solos ever come from the 70's imo for example.

And with this ranking the 10's are down to their Top 200 which is the 2nd decade to reach the milestone. I don't exactly hate this song but it really isn't among the stuff I typically listen to. Usher does ok with coming up with decent dance hits but I'm not a clubbin' kinda guy so most of this kind of music is lost on me. This song may be overly redundant if you ask me even though it doesn't exactly annoy like true redundancy so that might be a positive here I suppose. 2010 was a weird year for me also since it was a year where I really didn't get into much music if at all. Even though I graded the beat, hook and vocals poorly I couldn't depress the stickiness score in the same way.

Like the 3rd best song from the band imo but nothing in comparison to their greatest work of all time. After knowing what these guys made with the iconic "Africa" tune you kind of expect them to have a much better catalog seriously. If it weren't for "Hold the Line" I'd say these guys were an easy One Hit Wonder but technically we can't call them that can we? I just noticed that we are getting much closer to 5 points on these rankings and this song is a good example demonstrating why as the beats and rhythms begin to really become cohesive with each other in the way that I like. Does that mean I have standards too high or low here considering we haven't hit 1,000 yet? I guess we'll find out but I'm not too worried. Soon enough the rest of the list is gold in my book. =)

Love the catchy intro and as some of you will eventually find out I am always stoked to hear a good Pop Punk riff but.. the vocals here kinda really pull me away from sinking too deep into the rhythm though. This type of music is usually right up my ally and even though some of it I can be extra critical of, I still appreciate the abundance of harmony that exists in the genre. I really do prefer something a bit more emotional in the end as Pop Punk can be one of the best channels for depression imo. The guitars in this song sound great though. There is a chance this might pop up in a Ranking Regret later on...

I thought this band stopped making music in the late 90's as well. They probably should have though if this is the best they can come up with tbh. It's nothing memorable that's for sure and Eddie Vedder's voice is sounding off to me here. It could be that i'm tired and kinda interested in hearing music I am more familiar with but I cast this song easily into the sub-thousand pile.

Another song that only appeared here as filler tbh. It was on a chart topper list or something. No that's right it was on someone's list of the best Pop songs of the decade I believe. I didn't care too much about what I was selecting when filling the "10's" list near the end there as it was hard enough for me to fill it with such disinterest in the decade but there were a few of these songs pulled from the top region of lists like that. I might be one of a few folks that doesn't find Selena Gomez attractive I think but there is just something about her that immediately turns me off.

I have no real complaints about the riffing in this song as the beat stays consistently intruiging almost all the way through. The issue I have is that other than one or two of the main riffs, I have easily forgotten the rest. It kinda feels weird to be hearing "new" 80's music that I've never (and probably should have) heard. The name of the album seems really familiar but after a quick search do you know how many Heavy Metal "Number of the Beast" references there are? It's easily possible that I thought it was familiar because of that. My older brother was into this band among many other Heavy Metal bands when I was growing up so I have possibly heard this before but just can't remember that I did. Unfortunately since I am not sure about it, I couldn't give it any extra points there.

Genre: Hip Hop

Write-Up:
At first when I heard this I thought it was something that was featured on Saints Row 2 because the backtrack sounds really similar to one of the loading screens in the game but after closer inspection I realized that the song is actually "New York State of Mind". I never listened to Hip Hop in the 90's so as it turned out even though I thought this song sounded familiar, I don't think I've ever heard it from start to finish. I may have come across a sampling or two over the years but I could be wrong so I didn't give it credit in the "Memory" portion of the score. After some further thought though I swear I thought I heard this in a game so I booted up San Andreas which was my next closest guess but that wasn't it even though the theme sounds almost exactly like this except with a few noticeable differences.

Write-Up:
Back to the 80's again with one of most "80's sounding" tunes there ever was if you know what I mean. God what was up with the fashion statement in the video anyway? It's hard to believe I never noticed as a kid how corny everything was tbh. Anyway, this song ended up being the first of many Top 10 hits for Madonna and she was often praised for her "Dance Pop" style. Time magazine (must have regretably by now) added this to their list of "All Time 100 greatest songs". If that list hasn't been revised yet I'm sure this will drop off of it eventually if they are actually serious about their music lists. Many other bands have covered this song and I can tell you I have not heard a single one... although I may boot up the Counting Crows version at some point just out of curiosity. I have heard this song so much though that I can't really imagine it working any other way so we'll see.

Album: Smoke + Mirrors

Write-Up:
I remember when Imagine Dragons hit the mainstream and it seemed like all of their music was cool but then this song came out and I started to get annoyed by the band. Not exactly why but I think their magic has worn off on me. My wife thinks they are one of the greatest modern bands around but the entire chorus of this song just assaults my eardrums much in the same way that Metalcore irritates me. Maybe that sounds stupid but my point is that I no longer really care for the band and have the opinion that they aren't all that spectacular. It could also be that I've had to hear this song an excruciating amount of times on car rides where I had no control over the radio with the guys I care for. Either way I knew when this song was added to the list that it wouldn't make the top 1,000.
