I have had my Nexus 6P for three years now and the battery has one leg in the grave with it sometimes shutting down at 50-60% depending on what I am doing at the time. Normally I only carry my power bank when I'm camping but it has gotten to the point that I find myself carrying it regularly along with my keys, wallet, and phone.

Fortunately I'm replacing it with the Note 9 or Pixel 3 in October so can forego lugging around another electronic in my everyday work/errands. I have even thought to upgrade from a 10k mAh power bank to 20k but I think I can wait till the power bank itself is on its last leg.

Do you carry a power bank when out and about for your phone?

Funny enough I was playing that a few weeks back but currently taking a break around the middle of the third chapter. I'm enjoying it but can agree I probably will not be able to do a second playthrough. My tendency to want to grind levels will eat up too much time again.

Imo the best part of physical copies is legacy. Let's assume you want to play that game again 15 years from now, and the game was never remastered. All servers for download are down. And you don't have it installed on your system anymore for whatever reason (freeing space, it broke down, etc). You'll only be able to do that with the disc in hands.

This applies to self-contained games (i.e. Nintendo cartridges) but does it varies among some PS4 and XBox games?

Or what I thought at first would be the missing conveniences in something like FF1 where you have to hike back to town just to save. Then realized this could be solved by playing through an emu using save states.

Final Fantasy would be a tough one to stomach again without modern day features. I've had many of bad memories of trying to get back to town to save only to die on the way and losing all my progress.

DPsx7 posted...
Then I'm certain some of the earliest PS1 games would be hard to look at. Normally graphics aren't a concern. The problem is all the huge textures and poly's make the game quite muddy looking on modern TV's. 2D sprites never get old.

I do feel the the sprites of the later games on the SNES and Super Famicom to be better than the early polygons of the PS1. Not exactly a fair comparison given one is at the peak of the previous console while the other is at the early stages of the latter but like you said, 2D sprites never get old.

I'm sure we all have some game(s) with a special place in our hearts for whatever reason but of those games, which ones are simply too archaic now for you to enjoy again?

Personally for me, Fallout and Fallout 2 now falls into this category for me. Loved these two games, the death animation, and black humor but the inventory management and UI to talk/investigate something might be too archaic for me now. If only it was released a few years later and had the UI of Baldur's Gate II or Arcanume: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.

Which game(s) do you have fond memories of but would not want to replay nowadays?

most of them said when they took the position, it was a massive paycut compared to what they were making in the private sector. But they took it for the work-life balance, and more importantly, the guaranteed pension.

Nowadays, the public sector has better benefits still, pays just as much (or more), you work less hours, and is all around just a better gig on almost every metric.

Funny you mention all that. I was told about the same in my early days of studying civil engineering, that private tends to have higher pay but more hours while public pays less but better benefit and work-life balance.

About all my friends working in the public sector are making at least $80k or so while still working only about 40 hours a week. Hell, when I applied for an engineer associate position that asked for zero experience, starting pay was $60-80k. Still mad at myself for bombing the interview......

I have friends in the private sector pulling in at least 60+ hours a week. They get paid well still but work-life balance varies so much. One friend in particular at one point was going in at 8am and leaving at 9pm because of a major project.

The few friends who started public and switch over to private did it because I think the work was getting boring for them. That same friend told me her projects with the county were almost about the same and it was getting boring.

Kudos on the better position and offer of promotion. If I actually get hired elsewhere the pay more than likely will be better but at the same time I do enjoy the work environment of my current company. Work-life balance actually exist and our work load is enough to keep us busy and growing at a slow rate while not burying us under due dates.

Unfortunately being a relatively small company, I don't know if its something I can safely stay with for 20, 30, or 40 some years. Realistically I would like to land a position in the public sector and work for a city.

Dynalo posted...
As unfortunate as it is, that's often the most effective way to get a raise. But it's also the dumbest, because you're usually still better off switching companies at that point, as you already know you'll have to basically threaten to quit again to get your next raise.

I forgot if the article was posted here or somewhere else but it more or less suggest new employees are more than likely to start at a higher pay than a long time veteran of the company even if their experience and work load is about the same.

Novels in general lend themselves better to Television than movies because no one wants to sit in a theater for 10+ hours straight.

If/When The Silmarillion become a series, I do hope it starts off and stays as a TV series. Like you said, there's just too much for it to be in a movie setting. On another note, I've been told there's going to be a new Dune movie. I kinda thought the first movie was enjoyable but never got around to the TV series.

I'm a really slow reader. Might take me three to four months for one book so I'd say two to three books a year.

Bonus question to those who read a lot: Do you purchase them physically or digitally or do you check them out from a library (which also do digital now)?

Unless it is a book that I will want to share with fellow book readers, I tend to buy them for my Kindle Paperwhite. I do prefer holding a real book in my hands but am also limited on shelf space. Though I could just borrow them instead from the library.

Sure. I always enjoy reading his opinions of various RPGs so would probably enjoy having a pint or two and talking about our favorite games.
