Heh, I was just on another forum where someone was complaining about Liberals with the exact same argument you're making on the opposite side of the examples you made. People on both sides do this so it says more about the person you are arguing with than their views.

This is the reason why politics generally isn't allowed in the workplace. A lot of people don't know how to engage in discussions that challenge their views.

The movie felt quite sympathetic to Joker, portraying him as someone who was constantly dealt bad hands.

That's okay, just don't call yourself a history buff. You have an interest in military history or money history in your specific case--that's it. In fact that word "buff" should never exist in this context. I formally study history of various things, but I know only 1/10th of what a historian does (we're talking about the general skillsets of a historian here-not just the ability to remember several thousand pages of information). I am neither a history buff, nor a historian. I am a student of history, that's all.

Well, they're probably using "buff" as a way of saying that learning history, specifically military history, is they hobby. That's acceptable. In any field there's A LOT to learn and you'll never know enough. I have a physics B.S. degree and I tell people I have a quarter of a degree. One of my mentors who has a Ph.D. and has been in the business (not just school) for decades, is always learning something new. In crypto, I still have yet to "formally" code my smart contract yet I'll go on and on about how smart contracts will take over the world thanks to Chainlink if you give me a chance and have been way in the green profits wise.

As long as you willingly spend your time on a field, and enjoy it, claim it as your own. It'll give you a stronger motivation to learn more and do more with the field as you inch closer to mastering it.

I know next to nothing about world history. But since I've been learning to invest for a year now, I've been wanting to learn and have been dabbling a teeny tiny bit about history of money. When you learn about the ebb and flow about money, what gives the USD its value (nothing, or the military are good answers), it puts a lot of actions and decisions countries make in a different perspective which ties into military history to explain why we've gone to a number of wars in the past decade.

That being said...

I had no problem with it because it didn't slow down the pacing. He explained what was going on as it was happening and the explanations were down to Earth as well.

Now if they halted scenes to explain what was going on, a la Hunter x Hunter, then we'd have problems.

Read up to page 3 (50 per topic) of this topic so I'm skipping out on most of it. I was thinking the other day that if I were running this country, I would have gone after mainstream media to make some heads roll because of how they manufactured the outrage by the sheer amount of articles twisted for a racial light. I remember the first article by CNN was something along the lines of "Black boy shot and killed by Half White Man". And we had NBC doctor the dispatcher recording and one of the big name broadcasting networks show Martin only as a 12-14 year old.

The amount of controlled dissemination of misinformation was insane and we're still seeing the effects of it today. People should be on trial for a life sentence because this is too much power over the entire country.

If you just include it into the price of the food the restaurant has to count it as sales income. Which means customers have to pay sales tax on it, the restaurant has to pay income tax on it, and the staff has to pay income tax on it. So you're going through 3 tiers of taxation instead of just one. So if you include it into the price of the food it's either going to cost more to implement or less of that money is actually going to make it into the pocket of the staff(most likely the latter)

So tipping was invented to bypass these taxes?

I agree culinary workers are underpaid, but that's not really the service staff's fault

My problem with tipping is that, at the places I worked at, they don't split the tips. They do a great job with the service and get tipped? That's fine. I do an exceptional job with the meal and have the people saying "Wow!"? They get tipped. So what happens is for the "special of the day", we phone it in and experiment on the staff to make the actually really good meals and concoctions. One time I made a nachos and cheese mix to share around and I had a server ask me one time why I didn't make it a special. I looked at my coworker and we laughed at her. Rule of thumb for cooking: if they're not paying for the knowledge, keep it in your head. No need to make your master richer.

Really, they should raise the prices and do away with tipping. Just felt like venting a bit.
