Just the same as you dont know that isnt their intent. Unless they make a public statement then yeah no one knows either way.
Which is why we're saying making a declarative statement like "It reeks of pandering," is erroneous. And when asked why they think that, "Superman has always been white," isn't really an explanation.

Basically, some people think that any time a character is race swapped, it's 100% done for pandering purposes. That's incorrect and a bit racist.

If their intent for changing Clark Kent's skin color by having him portrayed by another non-white actor as a means to appeal directly to a specific demographic just by doing that and nothing else to character I would say that is the definition of pandering.
Except you don't know that's their intent. MJB is a good actor and fairly popular. Casting him can just as easily be on merit. So saying "Making Superman black is pandering," isn't really proof since there are other reasons they could be doing it.

And what things are you LIKELY to encounter in real life that $50 million dollars couldn't solve or at least vastly improve upon?

Ok, so a couple of things:

  1. Homelander may not be strong enough to lift an airplane. Just because he's a "Superman" archetype, doesn't mean they have the exact same abilities (or on the same power level.)
  2. Superman can do that because he exists in a world where the laws of physics aren't always obeyed. Homelander exists in a world which uses real world physics more. So, assuming he was strong enough to hold up a plane, he would more than likely punch right through it.
  3. Superman can also do this because he has a bio-electric aura/field that was introduced in the late 80s. See, John Byrne realized what I said above. That Superman lifting something super-heavy should cause the structure to crumble. So he came up with the idea that Clark has a field that helps hold said objects together. This is also the basis for Superboy (Conner Kent version) having Tactile Telekinesis.

It being different than the original series isn't really a fair criticism. It takes place 3 decades later, so why would the same events be playing out with the exact same characters? It's still very clearly set in the Watchmen's universe and has a lot of nods to the events in the graphic novel, even in just the first episode.

That's dumb though. The ending of the graphic novel was the world coming together against an alien threat. It would be weird that race issues would still be a thing, let alone real world issues.

Maybe it will all tie together but right now it feels out of place.
It's really not dumb, though. Look at real life and what happened with 9/11. Afterwards, the U.S. was pretty connected...for a time. After awhile, things went back to normal (and in some cases worsened.) The attack at the end of the GN was a one-time thing. Unless they continued to occur, humanity would naturally go right back to our usual forms of tribalism. It's in our nature.

Also The Comedian inspiring white nationalists makes more sense than Rorschach I think.
The original GN took place in the 80s so the political overtones were appropriaete for the times, i.e. nuclear War/WW 3 with Russia.

The current series takes place in 2019, and so it's political overtones are based on this time period.

Renaming Columbus Day or taking down racist statues isn't anywhere close to "removing/erasing history." There are these things called "books" and "museums" where one can still learn about things.

TC isn't being intellectually honest. The point is to not glorify/honor our horrific past, which is what monuments and holidays do. That's literally their purpose.
