It is not a red state, and legislators' job is to represent their district, which are mostly where the people are. There are 36 Democrats representing districts in and around NYC, in a legislative body of 62.

Plus, the state hasnt had a Republican Governor since 2006 or a Republican Senator since 1998. The last Republican President to carry the state was freaking Reagan!

The NY state Democratic Party is also very much controlled by corrupt (and largely unelected) cadre of donors and political insiders designed to reward loyalty rather than to achieve political goals.
So, like most state parties, but with a longer and grimier legacy.

god i miss the aesthetic of GBA fire emblem so much

Yeah, the sprites are animated so well. Even the basic attacks. But the crits? Dear God they are great. Like, the way shaman glow ominously while a pentagram blinks briefly into existence. The pleasingly meaty way cavaliers and paladins drive their lances into enemies. The casual way a swordmaster glides into three or how a hero chucks his shield skyward and slams his weapon down into the enemy. Lyn splitting in four, Hectors Armads being so heavy it casually cleaves the floor. The goddamned spin-cycle of DOOM
Theyre so memorable and full of character.

I don't really know much about Norse Mythology, but I imagine the gods do wild things there as well.

Loki turned into a female horse and has sex with a random stallion and gives birth to sleipnir

Thor loses his hammer and had to pretend to be a woman to get it back

There's some other absurd stuff. Mostly Loki's fault.

It wasnt random: the Gods wanted to build a nice new wall around Asgard, and some random traveler offered to do it in a season if they promised him the sun, the moon, and Freyas hand in marriage. The Gods were going to reject the ridiculous offer, but Loki convinced them otherwise, because of course some random dude couldnt build a giant wall in a single season, but the Gods could just get some of it done for free. They agreed to Lokis logic and also not to interfere in any way.
Fast forward four months and the wall is a day away from completion because the traveler was actually a giant with a supernaturally strong stallion, so Loki volunteers to mess up the giants work in a plausibly-deniable way so he doesnt get his skin flayed off by his angry fellows. So he turns into a mare and leads the stallion away and the traveler fails to complete the work and gets angry, but then Thor, who was out murdering giants this whole time comes home and murders the giant, so Loki probably didnt even have to do anything.

And, in Hades defense, you would get lonely too if your family locked you in the basement with nothing but shades and a vicious three-headed dog for company. Even Charon probably doesnt visit, and hes right next door, the jerk!

The difficulty gets better on Hard later on, but the average character in FE8 is better, and the worst characters aren't half-bad. Plus, even Eirika, the worse of the two lords, crushes Roy...
Our boy Roy: 80/40/50/40/60/25/30
Restoration Queen Eirika: 70/40/60/60/60/30/30
Worse HP growth, equal or better at everything else(including a crucial +20%! in speed), *and* gets a reasonable promotion time!
And yes, it's hilarious that Eirika has a better defense growth than Roy, even if it's only 5%.

Major note: they've completely reworked sectors, allowing you to designate a "sector capital" that hoovers up surrounding worlds to make a sector, rather than it just...happening.
Other things...
The expansion features archaeological projects, two new pre-cursors, minor artifacts that can expended for a one-time boost(what those boosts are rely on your ethics), and relic worlds, which are stuffed with artifacts and relics.

The patch introduces relics, which can be acquired via a number of ways. For example, the Contingency Core, Prethoryn Queen, the Great Khan's throne, and the Galatron are now all relics which may be activated for special benefits(IIRC, the Queen will generate a small Prethoryn fleet for you). Lastly, Habitats and Ringworlds got a buff.

also, the Nazis were fervently anti-communist, which makes the comparison even more hilarious because socialism directly influenced Marx and his theory of communism

Yeah, they literally burned the Reichstag so they had a pretext to throw the actual communists into the first camps.
Then they threw the social democrats into the camps, just to be sure. Then everyone else that opposed them.

I mean, the Nazis were literally invited into government by conservative monarchists who were doing everything in their power to undermine German democracy(one historian, I forget his name, coined an especially poetic descriptor for President Paul von Hindenburg: "the gravedigger of democracy" or something like that). Their aim was to use them as a cudgel against the communists and then tossing them aside/absorbing the less extreme elements, but they were the ones who got tossed aside/absorbed.

I can never really understand the logic of it. Like, only a nazi sympathizer should want to deny it, but then they should also praise it for happening in that case.

It's because they realize it would look bad to normal people to admit they think it was a good thing, so their public-facing belief is that it's either exaggerated or made-up. This allows them to more easily recruit others who have the same feeling while easing them into the real belief. The idea that the Nazis were meaningfully socialists(i.e. leftist) is also a deflection of a similar intent: essentially, it allows them to pretend their chosen ideology is blameless and pure by blaming everything bad on "the left".

It's my understanding that there was significant recognition of the need for reforms as early as the late '70s, but the hardliners were able to stave it off and a lot of the older reformists like Andropov died practically as soon as they won power, and the lack of continuity made it difficult to get things rolling until (the relatively young) Gorbachev took the reins, by which time the SU was bursting at the seams.
I really need to get some books about the Soviet Union and Russia in the '80s and '90s. Sounds like it was a horrible mess.

FE6 is infamous for having an extremely brutal early game and then gets hilariously easy later.

It's in part because their enemy unit variant isn't too big, lots of really bad units on the other side. But it's also in part because you get insane units like Miledy, Perceval, Niime, Yoder, or Karel that are basically just great to use right off the bat that even if you don't kill everything and maximize your exp, it doesn't really matter. I don't recommend clicking spoilers if you're at Ch. 15 and are paying attention to the story

It doesn't help the game spews garbage units at you like a high-pressure fire hose. A depressing amount of the characters the game gives you are no-hopers who seemingly exist solely to steal experience from the units with actual growth potential.
