I just finished episode 1 and I thought it was pretty damn fantastic. I love the cast so far, combat was great, music...I need the damn soundtrack. Only thing I'm iffy on is Yennefer but we'll see once she shows up for me.

Speaking of shutting down, remember Inafune and Level 5's game, Dragons & Colonies? That's shutting down as well, February 17. Launched last summer, got revamped and relaunched this October lol.

• It's Sky the 3rd-like, with a similar episodic structure with mini-games such as Magical Girl Alisa
• Kiseki is 60% complete as of Cold Steel IV. Hajimari marks the start of the second half
• The Hermit protag is a brand new character, and enemy characters will be playable as well
• Kondo lightly teases Zero and Ao Kai localization process

Takes place after IV, so beware spoilers for anything you read about it. I can share this, though:

The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki features plenty of new systems that utilize the strengths of the Trails series, including a Cross Story system that allows players to switch between three routes at will to depict stories happening in parallel from different perspectives; over 50 playable characters, including some new faces; and expansive Episode scenarios that delve into the backgrounds of each character.

And it'll have three protagonists to go with the routes--Rean, Lloyd, and a mysterious masked one called the Hermit.

This should not even be close. Cleo is an actual person with a decent personality. If she loses to a gimmick that barely tries...well then, I guess it was an honor to lose in round 2.

Dragalia Lost has a mysterious countdown on its site ending on Christmas. A lot of people are thinking anime announcement, but idk. I think it's too soon and too underperforming for that.

Bravely isn't better imo. only things it has going for it are music and combat. Characters are trash, story is trash, gameplay outside of combat is trash. Octopath has a bland cast and story but at least it's not straight up offensively bad like Bravely.

Brutal is a whole lot more unhinged from what I remember a year+ ago. Alcoholism, I guess.

I had a lot of fun with Octopath Traveler and was pretty addicted to it, though I thought its writing/characters were just on the "eh" side. but the combat, gameplay, and music are top tier imo.

I'm not sure I'd call it an old school JRPG though, but maybe my idea of old-school JRPG is flawed.

the order of the white dragons are cool, but i really hope they showcase more unusual characters. granblue is absolutely drowning in cool characters so I dont want it to be just the average introductory baseline

Oh whoa, Tmaster ended up winning? Last I checked, JCT was quite a bit ahead, so I'm surprised.

I have no idea how they play on console, sorry, but Planescape and Baldur's Gate 1/2 are must-plays imo. For CRPG fans.

I'll be playing my first Saga game pretty soon. It was a toss-up between 3 and Minstrel's Song but I'm going with 3. Have some friends that love that one a lot so I'm excited to check it out

It deserves a lot of it but not all of it imo. Story was rushed and missing holes they had to fill in with damn DLC and a book and anime and shit, characters outside of the main four and the villain weren't developed, but damn it was fun and had a really good ending. And its villain is one of my favorites.

I've been meaning to replay it now that it's gotten a bunch of updates and all that. I haven't since launch.

I'd argue they've both aged unfortunately poorly :( I haven't played the demo, but I hope it's good. SS2 was one of my favorite games of all time, especially when the devs saw people complaining about an annoying aspect(overly frequent gun jams) and actually patched in an option to determine the frequency.

I've yet to try it but giving SS2 a look, it looks similar in aging to the original Deus Ex. In that the age is obvious but after an hour or so I adapt well to it. I know others will feel differently though.

Leana, did you play Carrion's demo? I've been following that game for a couple years now, and it looks so fun but I haven't heard report of how it plays yet.

I haven't, I read the demo is the same gameplay they recently released already and I already watched all of that. It does look cool, though.
