What? User reviews are honest retrospectives - so long as you filter out the clear idiots who give 10/10s liberally (very few games deserve that score, but I'd round up some of my 9.5s) or ever give a 1/10 to a game that clearly doesn't deserve it. Critic reviews are done by people paid to rush through the game, so often times they don't get a full experience. And plus, since those reviews get more clicks, the developer can "invest" money in a superior review score. That's exactly why garbage like Call of Duty became so big. User reviews are done by people like us because we want to do them.

I just saw some maybe credible leak claiming that the lack of Pokmon and questionable animation quality is due to something going wrong with transporting assets to the new engine causing them to have to cut corners to get the game out in time. Allegedly theyll actually bring all the Pokmon back for the next gen and claim its because they listened to their fans.

i of course have no actual idea if this is true, but I can buy it... the decision to leave stuff out when they already had all these assets to reuse is just so dang weird otherwise

Making hundreds of Pokemon each have a niche seems like it'd be extremely hard, because you're inevitably going to have "X does Y better than Z" when there are so many. The cuts would be even larger in that scenario.

not every Pokmon is going to be competitive, but it would be nice if they all at least felt distinct. Obviously at this point theres a ton of Pokmon and there are some archetypes that have been repeated in different gens, but with the smaller curated dex every choice should count.

the specific choice that frustrates me is the inclusion of both Machamp and Conkeldurr. Conkeldurr is just Gen Vs replacement for Machamp! They have the same stat total and really similar distribution and moves and it just seems redundant to have both... and then they give Machamp a Gigantimax so he like extra outshadows Conkeldurr ! Either dont include them both or toss Conkeldurr something new that makes him stand out a bit more in comparison.

(now Im not a total expert so I fully expect someone to tell me how theyre actually very different in the serious meta game or something)

its weird how Gamefreak gets fixated on certain type combos and ignores others.. like now theres three Ghost/Ground types, but no Ghost/Rock... or their weird obsession with Psychic/Fairy. Why is Ponyta psychic?

I know GF said they don't plan on doing updates to add big swathes of Pokemon back, but I don't think that necessarily means they won't have events planned to bring in just a few extras. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a Mewtwo Gigantamax model was found or something like that.

im like 100% sure theres at least one new Pokmon theyre saving for events like a Mew... I definitely wouldnt be surprised if there are some more old legendaries in the game too

as the show continues into forever this is going to continue to be an issue that I assume theyll address on a case by case basis.

Specifically I think the difference between Russi Taylor and Marcia Wallace is that Russi did a bunch of characters and put on different voices for them, so she kind of disappeared into the roles, but Marcia was just Edna and was basically doing her own voice. anyone taking over that character would have to be doing a Marcia Wallace impression.

I think these two probably set the model for how theyll address future deaths/retirements. Like if they lose Tress MacNeille theyll recast those characters, but no one else would ever be cast for Sideshow Bob. Its about how tightly the character and performer are linked.

no idea what theyll do if the show outlives one of the main family members

is this just a "get good" thing or are command inputs actually like that

i definitely accidentally do moves sometimes, it can be pretty annoying. Mostly I just accidentally dive when I mean to knuckle.

I think (or at least hope) that theyll be more cognizant of which Pokmon havent been in a regional dex for a while now that not being in the regional dex means not being in the game at all. Shinx was available in some manner every gen since 4 so it not being in a regional dex was a less big deal until now

obviously some Pokmon will be gone longer than others, but theres some form of main Pokmon game every year or two. theres probably like 8 opportunities in a decade for a Pokmon to show up

Pokmon Platinum came out over 10 years ago. It was the last time the Shinx line was in a regional Pokdex. Now if something popular like Shinx's line doesn't show up for 10 years, what does that mean for less popular Pokmon?

sawk and throh are in the new games so lack of popularity doesnt seem to be a big barrier to entry

Well considering they literally never add anything interesting to the remakes BESIDES the extra pokemon and maybe a weird feature where you dress up pikachu, I don't feel like that's a hot take? I mean if you like 3-d models that's cool and bully for you, but I would literally just take a 1-1 remake of d/p with the extra pokemon patched in over whatever weird thing they're going to give us with an extra added on plot about how a tall guy made a meteor that split the timeline. extra Pokmon was never what interested me about the remakes, it was mostly about upgrading the old games to the modern gameplay. HG/SS were great to me because it was G/S with abilities and physical/special split and a PC that didnt suck.

other than Fairy type, there hasnt been much change in the gameplay since gen 4 , so remakes of those are less exciting to me, but the ability to trade in post-gen 4 Pokmon would be total non-factor in my interest

ooo maybe they could do Sinnoh forms of stuff in a remake. That would be something.

shouldnt what be easier to do? Theoretically its easier to make 3DS quality assets than HD ones, so moving to a console would make that part harder.

but in practice they already made the 3DS ones at Switch quality and just downgraded them for those games so the move to console shouldnt really change anything
