I don't think he's interested in going back to basics, but more so in exploring what's next. He's all about big swings and going for broke, trying something different with each iteration. I think he also doesn't view these seasons as a regression, or worse off than previous seasons. As long as he continues to push the envelope, and the fans still stick around (which they will, because Survivor has a big, strong core audience), he's gonna keep trying new, wacky, potentially disruptive, but potentially inventive ideas. Also because they're now in Fiji forever, which means it's all about the next new theme. --- |

I'd be cool if Rick didn't find idols or win immunity and still reaches the end (although I'm not rooting for him due to EoE anyway), but I'm not looking forward to another Ben-streak the rest of the way. It would tank the endgame, the editing, the episodes, the suspense, blah. --- |
