In my view nu metal is more of a movement than an actual subgenre. Kinda like grunge. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana are almost nothing alike, just like Korn, Deftones, System of a Down, etc. are almost nothing alike.

Every riff sounds like something they recycled from older songs. The chorus is catchy but nothing special.

So I think this illustrates part of my problem. I grew up in a poor rural area. It was western Washington so property values were still ok, crime was low, vacancy rate was low, but lots of poverty and very much a dying community that could use help, but rural areas are ignored for inner city issues. If they tracked substance abuse or something Im sure my area would have scored very highly. But they were selective in the criteria that identify oppression and they have groups they are targeting and ignoring based on their criteria.
