It's okay. I figured it was probably a monkey Pokemon based on what CoroCoro showed us 2 weeks ago. I was also right about it having a possible Dark typing.

The Mewtwo raids are very ridiculous that even a full team of human partners would face extreme difficulty in beating it. It's completely impossible to beat it using the AI partners since their Pokemon won't be at level 100.

After a few Mewtwo raids, I think the best Pokemon builds would be fully defensive builds (EV investment in HP/SpD with an SpD boosting nature) because it's a survival game to get through all of the shields to start doing more damage. So investing in offense isn't really a good idea.

This is a problem since all of the legendaries I brought through Pokemon Home were designed with EV investment in HP and its best offensive stat as they were intended for normal raids and not these Mewtwo raids. I'm going to go back and PKHeX several fully defensive builds of select legendaries and mythicals and bring them through Pokemon Home.

Whats the point of Mewtwo if you cant catch it :/

The item drops. It's sort of like the Delibird raids around Christmas time where you can just a ton of Exp. Candies, but the Mewtwo raids can provide 20 Exp. Candy L and 10 Exp. Candy XL. Other possible item drops include Ability Capsules, Bottle Caps, PP Ups, PP Max, Rare Candies, and a few other items.

I would only believe this if he had started the poll exactly at 12:00 PM EST, which was not the case here. Looking at the source code of the data used for the Geolocation results and poll graphs, I can see that the poll had 13 votes at 12:35 PM EST. This implies the poll just shortly before 12:35 PM. That's an unusual time to be starting a poll if you're planning to change the poll start time for the contest.

You could probably tell from the vote totals that the poll ran for maybe 3 to 5 hours, going off the vote totals for other polls during that time period.

Creating a system to avoid guest fluking would be interesting. Maybe give it a deadline until 12 hours before the match starts in order to look for other people.

I like this idea. That provides enough time to find a replacement guest, but if the original guest sends in their write-up before the match starts, then it should override the write-up provided by the replacement guest.

The Pokmon Company's Pokmon of the Year promotion is live. If you search for Pokmon or Pokmon of the Year on Google, you will be able to put in a vote for your favourite Pokmon. This is separated into 8 categories, based upon region of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola and "Galar etc.", with Meltan and Melmetal being the etc. with Galar. Each day until 13:59 UTC on February 1st you can vote for a Pokmon in each category. The winner will be revealed on Pokmon Day

You can go here to vote for your favorites from each generation:

I've always wanted to see some kind of favorite Pokemon competition that wasn't limited to Japan only. Also, the voting ends on February 14th, not the 1st. This is a small error in Serebii's reporting of this event.

Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14PmFnPgwYASnutdjA905NiOFiQLjl3k_gseE3lVMeCo/pub?gid=1261620550

"Several times a day" has gone from 35.44% in the 2011 poll to 27.88% in yesterday's poll, with "Around once a day" absorbing almost all of this lost percentage. The last 4 options largely maintain their percentages from the 2011 poll, although "A few times a week" has dropped off slightly while "A few times a year" and "First time this year, if ever" going up somewhat.

This is one of very few polls based around the split between registered users and unregistered users. In the case of this poll, the registered users heavily favor "Several times a day" and "Around once a day" to a lesser extent, while the other 4 options fare very poorly with registered users. Unregistered users mostly favor the last 4 options. The 2018 contest showed us that the first few hours of a match gets the highest percentage of incoming votes from registered users and this steadily decreases over the course of the match before hitting rock bottom during the last few hours of the match. This trend also applies to regular polls.

"Several times a day" performs best with the board vote, but drops off pretty hard by the end of the Power Hour. There was no point in this poll where "Several times a day" held the lead over "Around once a day", although the 2 options were tied at the freeze. But after the board vote came to an end, "Around once a day" took control of this poll for good. At the end of the Power Hour, "Several times a day" had 36.41% and went on to lose a total of 8.53% for the rest of the poll to finish with 27.88%. "Several times a day" fell apart so badly by the end of this poll that it managed to lose an entire hour to "A few times a week" near the end of the poll.

"Around once a day" had a bad board vote, ASV, and SNV. The Power Hour was fairly average, and it did best during the night vote and morning vote. It reached a maximum percentage of 54.36% at 11:10 AM before going on to lose 3.16% for the rest of the poll. In the 2011 poll, the maximum percentage happened at 12:09 PM, but that poll was on a weekday instead. This poll happened on the weekend, which could have affected the trends slightly. But in general, all of the trends from the 2011 poll have been consistent with yesterday's poll despite the weekday vs. weekend difference.

"A few times a week" has a very terrible board vote and Power Hour, while having a bad night vote and below average morning vote. It performs best during the later part of the poll, which includes the ASV and SNV. This option starts off very poorly before doing a "rise to heaven" trend for the entire poll, and it gains a total of 4.69% for the rest of the poll after the Power Hour.

"A few times a month", "A few times a year", and "First time this year, if ever" all have similar trends by having a terrible board vote, Power Hour, night vote, and morning vote. Their best time period was the ASV and SNV. These 3 options also have the same "rise to heaven" trend seen by "A few times a week".

Definitely tracking poll updates for today's poll:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7853-

When I tracked that poll back in 2011, it showed very strong trends that clearly highlighted a difference between registered users and unregistered users. The unregistered users were far less likely to visit the site on a regular basis, and this group of users was least pronounced during the first few hours of a new poll (or the contest matches from the 2018 contest).

Yeah, if you look at the past history of that poll, you'll see that "I'm just here for the Poll" has gained percentage in every future re-run after the first appearance of that poll. And since most voters in the polls are long-time users, that's going to skew the results towards the poll option. Very few votes are coming from people visiting the site for the first time, as most of them are coming through a Google search result and bypassing the homepage completely.

PS5 is going to be backwards compatible with PS4, so that's good news for those who don't have a PS4 yet.

It's not very likely to have native hardware-based compatibility for the earlier systems before PS4. To support PS1, PS2, and PS3 means including extra hardware inside the PS5 to emulate those earlier systems. Playing games from the earlier systems will require the use of PlayStation Now, a cloud gaming service.

I guess no January Direct then. Hard to imagine they'd be doing a standalone reveal if there was still a Direct happening in the next couple weeks.

I don't think this really affects the possibility of a general Direct in January. A Smash DLC presentation doesn't really make sense for a general Direct anyways, and you wouldn't want any specific announcement or game taking up more than 2-3 minutes in a general Direct. The purpose of a general Direct is revealing new games or showing more info on upcoming games.

It may have been sent to a different email than the one you use most often.

GotY polls have ended. We didn't get a GotD poll featuring all of the previous GotY winners from the last decade.

I think LoZ:LBW would have won a hypothetical third match-up there, but they truly deserved a tie-breaker and I really hope they face off somewhere this contest.

That really depends on A Link Between Worlds getting into the contest to begin with. I gave it a nomination because it was a crime that it didn't make it into the 2015 contest. As a past GotY winner, it should be given a chance to validate its strength in a contest setting.

MM beating BotW is no sure thing right now. That's why a bonus match would help prove which one is actually stronger.

Just realized yesterday's poll was the only "Best of 2020" poll that reached 10k+ votes, and roughly 1,000 votes ahead of the Semifinal vote.

I would've figured the votals would be the same or lower on both days, but people become hyped with final matches, it seems.

The 3-way poll was on a Saturday, and I've documented on numerous occasions that Saturday produces the lowest average vote totals during the week. Saturday vote totals are around 10% worse than any other day of the week. Monday-Thursday produces the highest average vote totals, followed by Friday/Sunday next (about even for both days), and Saturday last.

Poll updates for 3-way and 1v1 GotY polls:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j5wtpPasf450BLvTyd8LZoQ3W_JYqzCtXP38lvIRHjE/pub

Trend charts for the 3-way and 1v1 GotY polls:

Time | FE: 3H | RE2 | Sekiro | Votes | Demographic
EBV | 38.85% | 42.04% | 19.11% | 157 | (0:00-0:05)
PHV | 37.18% | 39.96% | 22.86% | 1006 | (0:00-1:00)
FNV | 33.93% | 42.80% | 23.27% | 2166 | (1:00-6:00)
BSV | 32.97% | 43.37% | 23.66% | 1192 | (6:00-9:00)
DSV | 34.53% | 41.01% | 24.47% | 2485 | (9:00-14:30)
ASV | 38.37% | 38.37% | 23.25% | 2103 | (14:30-22:00)
SNV | 37.98% | 40.63% | 21.39% | 416 | (22:00-24:00)

Time | FE: 3H | RE2 | Votes | Demographic
EBV | 52.02% | 47.98% | 173 | (0:00-0:05)
PHV | 47.39% | 52.61% | 1072 | (0:00-1:00)
FNV | 44.94% | 55.06% | 2352 | (1:00-6:00)
BSV | 46.43% | 53.57% | 1301 | (6:00-9:00)
DSV | 47.07% | 52.93% | 2730 | (9:00-14:30)
ASV | 45.67% | 54.33% | 2380 | (14:30-22:00)
SNV | 51.17% | 48.83% | 514 | (22:00-24:00)

In the 3-way poll, Sekiro was pretty bad with the board vote but does best in the morning. RE2 does best at night, which is to be expected based on past games in the series. FE does poorly at night, similar to most Nintendo games. FE also went exactly 50/50 with RE2 during the ASV.

For the 1v1 poll, FE manages to outright win the board vote over RE2. It even won the SNV too.

Both of these polls were on the weekend, so the trends were expected to be similar. Regardless, there were some differences in trends between both polls. Such as FE doing worse with the ASV in the 1v1 poll, which was almost as bad as its night vote. In the 3-way poll, FE also had a poor morning vote, but it had a better morning vote in the 1v1 poll instead.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

This game is a past GotY winner on GameFAQs, but it failed to make it into the 2015 Games Contest. As a past GotY winner, it should be given the chance to validate its strength in a contest setting. I think that's a pretty good reason to give this game a nomination.
