From my personal experiences, a lot of people who are angry at stay at home orders are insulted that their work isn't considered "essential". It's stupid, but I can at least understand their frustration. As time goes on, we as a society will definitely need to reckon with job prioritization.

I think a lot of people fail to realize that these definitions of essential only apply in this sort of scenario

There could be other disaster scenarios where fast food workers become inessential and hardware store workers become essential

Should note also that this does not apply when contracts actually expire. Those people are immediately free, and you cant game the system by releasing them within 90 days. Theyd still be free when their contract ran out.
