I'm all for not letting some social conventions stop you from having the hair style you want, or the name you want. One of my pet peeves is people acting as if certain names are "wrong" or "too difficult to day" and I'll fight on that hill.

But there's a difference in that and saying dressing formal could be seeing as trying to pander to white people. Like yes, in a formal office setting there is a difference in dressing like lil Wayne or Farnsworth Bentley..and that difference applies for any race

I'm not talking about a work place setting or a formal event. I'm talking about being out in the street expecting people that harbor anti-black sentiments or full blown racists to treat you better because of how you dress, or what kind of car you drive, what your hair looks like.

Maybe if something is wrong with the install. Superchargers are supposed to give instant response as soon as you put your foot down. FI cars require more maintenance than naturally aspirated because there's more things that you have to be aware of with the gage cluster and stuff.

You should see the shrill reaction from my local area. One of our judges ordered that people must wear a mask in public for 6 days, then he extended it. He had to make a statement about the level of vitriol in the hate mail that he received. People are fucking crazy.

Basically it's people within a marginalized group that has an unhealthy obsession with how white people regard them and their race/ethnicity. They tailor themselves to appear as non-threatening as possible, "If you cut your dreads and wear dress shoes and slacks then maybe you'll get that promotion, or the police won't hassle you". Respectability politics is something that has never worked, it doesn't matter if you dress like Lil Wayne or Farnsworth Bentley.

It's concern trolling like you said, completely ignoring the power dynamics that have been in play since colonial times on this land.

Black people getting fair and equitable treatment is not going to suddenly turn around and become black supremacy and white oppression. Last I checked nearly all of the US Senators are white, all but one of the US Presidents have been white men, most of the governors are white, pretty much all of the top CEO execs, etc.

Nah the first game was bleak as well, even from the prologue. Joel torturing people, characters that you thought were going on the journey with you dying in brutal fashion, the pie in the sky prospect of a cure, etc. It's not a light hearted series.

Just finished it myself, I thought it was great.

I guess people expected 55+ year old Joel to go on another adventure with Ellie cutting through folks Avenger's style. LoU's universe is a bleak, apocalyptic future, there is hardly any black and white and nearly everyone has done questionable things. Sometimes death comes quick and uneventfully, actually a lot of times in LoU. Ellie's descent off the deep end was a sight to see, she was hellbent on revenge when deep down what she really wanted was closure with Joel and she was robbed of that, but she finally let it go. Abby turned herself into a Terminator to get her revenge and you see her slowly regain her humanity, instead of having the character tell you her motivation in a long drawn out dialogue (as with most games and media) you see it through her eyes as a playable character. The whole game is an exercise of catharsis for these two.

People like her in the medical field are why black women have higher mortality rates postpartum and higher infant mortality rates. This is how institutional racism becomes a thing, it's not just limited to individuals or single episodes. How many black patients has she worked with? Would any black person be comfortable with her working with them? Absolutely not.

60,70,80 years ago black men would have been accosted by a mob, brutalized and/or lynched at a mere accusation of a white woman. Whole black towns and neighborhoods were razed to the ground off of accusations like this. The Black Wall St. massacre happened because a black man allegedly tripped while getting on an elevator and touched the arm of a white woman as he lost his balance who then screamed, hundreds of people died.

That is why I dont really find the funny names like Barbecue Becky, Karen etc for these women amusing. There is a type of power that is being weilded here that is reminiscent of how things were back in my parents and grandparents day.
