That's true, plus she's the way they get most of the morphs. I like the parts when they do stuff in the zoo. She just felt like an author stand-in to me though. Like it wasn't that she was just the opposite of Rachel, she was also usually the one in the right. Preachy characters usually rub me the wrong way but you're right, they couldn't take her out.
I feel like that's part and parcel of the character though. Cassie was basically the group's conscience, the only one who worried about more than winning the next battle or even the war. Who valued even the freedom of a single child. Which is why she's the only who survived: even after everything that happened, Cassie could move on.

I think, first and foremost, you have to start from a point of understanding that our culture is pretty racist, but it used to be blindingly racist. Like, Lovecraft is an excellent example, because his racism was particularly virulent, mean-spirited, and obvious. You need to read Lovecraft with that understanding, you need to present him both as the brilliant writer of horror and suspense that he was and the racist that he was.

But, of course, a lot of older literature is racially-insensitive at best. It would be unwise to erase the past, because it's important people are aware of and acknowledge just how racist it was, but I think you can definitely adapt something like Lovecraft(you would avoid certain stories and certain associations like you wouldn't paint the shoggoths overthrowing their slavemasters as a terrible tragedy that has led to the destruction of the Old One's culture, or Nyarlathotep's entire appearance, or the whole bit with Cthulu's worshippers being all black or brown or Tarzan(I heard there was a recent movie adaptation that was good but relatively unsuccessful at the box office), you just have to get the slime out of it. And if you can't, leave it in the past where it belongs.

And yeah with that much source material it really should be like a Netflix series.
IIRC, everything from after the David arc right up to the beginning of the end(the last few books) was ghost-written and is more or less filler.

Basically, you could probably make it a trilogy, with the second film containing the David arc and then wrap it up in movie 3. Make it a lean, mean psycho-action type deal. You would naturally cut out most of the Ellimist-Crayak metaplot, because it works fine in a book series but would be basically the equivalent of slamming on the brakes in a movie. They should try to avoid lengthy exposition.

Info about past years: https://blog.fourjobfiesta.com/
To (officially) participate, use the handy tool on the site to generate a registration tweet and fire it off to @ff5forfutures (otherwise known as Gilgabot).

The fiesta is a collective challenge run: you are assigned four jobs(one per crystal) based on the parameters you choose. You must have at least one instance of every unlocked job in your party at all times, and you may not use any job that hasn't been assigned to you.

But EV, isn't that hard?
FFV is actually a fairly easy game, and multiple people beat it with nothing but berserkers every year. To put your mind at ease, here are some tips for surviving early on with your wind job...

Knight, Monk
Just buy the best equipment you can along with a hefty pile of potions, and spam attack. The only thing that will give you any trouble at all is Garula(the Walse Tower boss), but as long as you bought enough healing items, you'll get through it.

Thief
Basically the above, except thieves do less damage and are less robust...so, harder. Garula will be rough, but you can (rarely) steal Mythril Daggers from the Wyverns in Walse Tower. Even one can give you a good boost in your damage output. Money shouldn't be a problem, just rob enemies.

Black Mage
Buy every spell you can and spam them from the safety of the back row. Garula isn't weak to anything you have, so he'll be tough, but you'll be in the back row(thus taking half damage) and have a hefty pile of potions, so you'll do okay.

White Mage
Congratulations, your run is basically a guaranteed success, because white magic makes it very hard to die ever. The problem is that white mages are pathetically weak attackers who struggle to kill anything, so every battle is going to be tedious. The Flail is the only source of something approximating real damage. No one will judge you if you run one freelancer until you get your water job, not even Garula is/was going to kill you.

Blue Mage
Yep, you're going to win, but you'll probably want a guide to find all that deliciously overpowered blue magic. Basically, blue mages learn enemy skills by being hit by them. Important early ones:
Goblin Punch - From the goblins that can be found around Tycoon and the Wind Tower
Vampire - From the bats in the pirate cave
Flash - From the tombstone enemies on the mountain(you'll have to throw them an ether/elixir)
Pond's Chorus - From the frog enemies in the secret cave behind Walse Castle

That last one lets you cheese Garula: he's weak to Toad. He actually knows Toad, which he'll cast on himself to heal the status, but he doesn't have much MP, so just keep spamming Pond's Chorus until he runs out of MP and then laugh as he flails around impotently.
Blue Mages can equip most weapons, but they're weak and frail, so if you're worried, you can put everyone in back and just spam Goblin Punch. If you take damage, Vampire to heal(unless you're in the ship graveyard, everything there is undead except for the boss).

Here's an excellent info resource: https://ff5.mega64.net/index.php

As for me, well, Gilgabot was exceptionally kind and gave me Blue Mage. Just starting in on North Mountain now. Blue Mage can probably get me through this even if I don't get anything else good, so I'm feeling great. Anyone else here running?

Lol, what? Why would i need to provide names of people that are well qualified? I dont know who the most qualified, and best fit for Democratic VP would be. It could be a person of color. It could be a woman. It could be a gay mexican man. It could be Amy Klobuchar--that is the point here. Resigning from the possibility of getting the position, and saying ''its someone of colors turn'' is idiotic. We're not in first grade, playing follow the leader...we're talking about someone who is one position under the most powerful position in the entire world. Skin color is ABSOLUTELY NOT one of the things that needs to be considered for this position. It should not be considered at all if we are to live in a society where everyone is looked at equally. People of color should be offended at a white person saying ''i've had enough fun now, i guess you can have a turn''...like wtf? Thats basically racist in and of itself...
So, then why are you convinced that the person who is the most qualified isn't a woman or person of color? I mean, you admit you don't really know much about it.
Because I'm not sure why you would be objecting so strongly to the idea otherwise.

I mean, every other "developed" nation has some sort of universal system. and many "non-developed" nations have one as well. They have lower healthcare costs per capita, better healthcare outcomes, better life expectancy, lower rates of maternal and infant mortality etc. etc. (the developed ones, at least). Oh, and medical bankruptcies are barely a thing.
The benefit of our system is that the wealthy who can afford to spend top dollar have marginally better healthcare outcomes in terms of things like cancer treatments, more jobs are created by our multiple private healthcare bureaucracies than would exist in a public one, and wealthy ghouls can become even wealthier than they already are. A competent transition plan could take care of any disruptions easily.

Plus, y'know, you can't credibly claim to give a damn about your fellow citizens if you think them being unable to afford life-preserving/improving care is cool and good.

Yeah, there's basically a sort of cultishness to how the Founders are often presented. The truth is they were 18th-century aristocrats who had the priorities of 18th-century aristocrats. Many of them were praise-worthy in many ways(like, Washington 100% could have gone full Cromwell/Napoleon if he had wanted to, but didn't and went out of his way to dispel any ideas his junior officers had that he would), but they were terrible in many others. Some aspects of the government they designed worked out pretty well, others did not. It increasingly struggles to govern in the 21st-century. Some would even have the good sense to be aghast that we were still running things by their lines.
