| IdiotMachine 05/29/20 1:10:34 PM #1 | I had athletic gear on (including an armband for my phone) and two blinking lights (on the front and back, so I can be visible). I like to run at night, so went for a jog at around 12am-ish. Near the end of my jog, a police car turned on his lights (no sound), pulled up next to me, and asked what I was doing. I told him I was clearly out for a run. He asked for my ID. I rejected saying that I was doing nothing that required me to show ID. He asked if I knew where I was, and whether or not I was lost. I told him I know where I am. He asked if I'm going to run back home now. I told him I haven't decided yet. He then told me to have a good run, turned off his lights, and went about his business. --------------------------- One time, I was going over 100mph in a 45mph work zone and got pulled over (rightfully so). I exited the highway at the next exit, and entered a parking lot for his safety. After we came to a complete stop, I turned off my music, opened all my windows, and turned on all the interior lights (as it was getting dark outside) before the officer came to my side. He asked if I knew why he pulled me over, and I said that I was speeding. He asked if I knew how fast I was going, and I told him that I honestly don't know, but it is definitely well above the speed limit. He asked if I had any warrants, or if I had any other moving violations on my record. I told him no. He asked for my ID, registration, and insurance. I gave it to him. He then walked back to his car. After what seemed like an eternity, he used his PA system to tell me to get out of the car. I thought I was being arrested (rightfully so, again). He told me to face forward, and walk backwards towards him. I did. When I got to his SUV, he told me to stop. He got out of his vehicle, then got behind me, and told me to turn around. He gave my documents back and told me to stop speeding, and that let this be a wake up call. He then got back into his SUV, and left... I was literally still standing there in shock. I never sped above +10mph the speed limit after that. --------------------------- I've had at least several more experience with the police (nothing crazy as the above), and not one of them was negative. Hell, one time, I called the police over a snake on my property (I'm pretty sure I posted that on CE here). /blogfaqs --- |

In general, any time something awful like this happens, the officers are punished to the extent allowed by union agreements, the DA gets to decide whether or not to press charges, and if charges are pressed, the people decide whether or not they are guilty. Everywhere along this line, the people had a say. Unions are voted for; DAs are voted for; and the jury is literally the people. So what the fuck. Protesting and rioting won't change shit. Go vote or go anti-union. And hell, if you're not even from the area (Denver protests are happening, yet these types of cases never happened in recent history of Denver; lol so wtf), what are you even doing? Your local government is fine. --- |

The police use this as an excuse to militarize even further then everyone settles down, forgets everything (except the family of the alleged perp that died and the unfortunate business owners who have to recover from destroyed businesses), and life is back to normal. Until a dumbass police officer does something monumentally stupid again, which repeats the cycle. --- |
