i dont think seaside soiree is that bad honestly, but the banana junctions are definitely the worst part - they feel out of place on a board that's pretty well-crafted otherwise (and as you said before, mp4 boards in general are full of similar gimmicks, from the dual pathways in bowser's to the roulette paths in goomba's greedy gala)

odyssey's highs are outstanding, but at a certain point, feels like a really disparate collection of mini-games
and if you're going for 100% it very much feels like checking off boxes (that's quite literally what the toadette moons are)

it's a great game, movement is the best it's ever been, rules for speedrunning, but still lacks some of the soul that makes the best mario games better, imo

tbqh this is the main gripe with mp4 boards, which are generally better than mp5's imo, they just have a crummier item system stuck with them. shy guy's board is good, boo's and bowser's are fine, and toad's at least has an outstanding theme.

also i'm pretty sure dungeon duos is the best 2v2 mini-game they've ever made and i'm not sure it's close

mario party 5 is such a wacky game in that the boards (by default, at least) absolutely suck, but there is a really fine selection of mini-games (especially in the 4-player versus category)

also, the star spirits from paper mario are there for some reason! it's a weird one.

i enjoy me some bowsers big blast (for what it is) but seeing it a tier ahead of booksquirm, snow whirled, and hexagon/mushroom (basically the mario party GOATs) seems a bit much

i played a game of mario party once where i was winning the entire time, then got wrecked by a chance time that swapped coins/stars

and i thought it was hilarious! imo, if you're not willing to accept the silly nonsense in mario party, you should not be playing mario party

blue coins were an attempt at another tier of collectible, but they end up being frustrating for completionists like myself, and really don't work as well as just having a mountain of stuff like odyssey does

sunshine does a lot of stuff really well - its atmosphere and music feel like nothing else in the series, and FLUDD offered a degree of precision and movement freedom that expanded on what was offered by 64.
but it also feels like a weird trial period for experiments that didn't necessarily work - overwrought story cutscenes, radical departures from a tried-and-true formula, and the aforementioned "mid-tier" collectibles that were more trouble than they were worth.

it's still great! but definitely a tier below odyssey in my book. odyssey is much safer, much cleaner, and for all the problems inherent in that, still a generally more enjoyable experience.

she has to be one of the most underrated challenge competitors ever, at least among winners

she beat ozzy in the season where he won every challenge ever, to make sure he didn't win!
and crushed it again today

tim & marie definitely grew on me, but i wouldn't say i actively liked them so much as preferred them to all the alternatives

and yeah travis got super unpleasant and uncomfortable by the end, i don't think that take is too strong inviso, it was doing the rounds at the time of airing too

i looked at a wiki and while i do remember ally and ashley (got way farther than they should have, but were generally pleasant and likeable) i have absolutely no recollection of the 6th place team whatsoever

They were my favorite team when I first watched it too but there is a team that goes far that I am enjoying this time around (and not the one that starts out okay and becomes awful later... I'm well aware of what happens to them)

i honestly forget who even came in 5th and 6th somehow. once the 7th/8th teams went out back-to-back i basically checked out mentally for the rest of the season.
in the finale i was actually rooting for the antagonist team because they were at least funny sometimes.
the winners are among my least favorite in the show's entire history.
