I wonder that, too. Like, how much of Bloomberg's early polling data is people just saying "yeah, I'd vote for him" but don't actually plan to go vote that day. American apathy to voting is very prevalent. It usually takes at least some degree of enthusiasm (or disgust) to motivate someone to get out of their house to vote. I'm curious to see if Bloomberg's ads and canvassing initiatives are enough to motivate people to actually vote.

I enjoyed the movie. The humor was great and the story was quirky. Its just not something you see in movies.

With that said, there was just too much plot to cover in one movie. It would have definitely benefited by being a TV show to give the characters more development (most notably the exes). The seven exes already give the show an episodic formula to work with.

You're missing the bigger picture here.

Vanessa is supposed to be the "daughter" of Austin's old partner, which means that his old partner was also a Fembot. Meaning Dr. Evil made a passable fembot in the 60's.

You could always go with the much darker explanation that the real Vanessa was captured and killed between the first and second movie and replaced with the fembot that we see at the beginning of the second movie.

It's hard to fully appreciate the second one without watching the first one. The plot continues pretty directly from it and even ties up some loose ends.

With that being said, the first one was a completely different type of movie than this one. The first one is a much more of a horror comedy. This one goes way more sci-fi comedy.

I love both of them equally for different reasons, though. I look forward to the inevitable third one. Looks like it might change genres again. I'm thinking conspiracy thriller comedy.

I could understand a fine if this were an auditorium showing on a large projector screen. But if this was just a teacher showing a legal copy of The Lion King on a classroom TV, that shouldn't even warrant a $2.50 fine. There should be a "rewards and education" clause in copyright law to allow classroom showings of movies.
It was for a fundraising event.

I used to work for a university department that showed movies at events. It is ridiculous the copyright laws involved and permissions and fees to show any movie.

Honestly, $250 is super cheap for a showing of a newer Disney movie. It would have likely cost our university closer to $850 to show a movie like that, maybe $500 if it was already available on DVD/Bluray.

There are a few grey areas in universities when showing it in a classroom. While you can't show it for "entertainment" purposes, teachers can usually justify showing a movie in class and won't be bothered too much. Same with dormitories in colleges. If they show a movie in a common dorm living area, it's still considered a "private" viewing space even if you are showing it to everyone who lives in that building. But the waters can get murky.

Outside of that, whether you are charging money for it or not, you have to pay the fees through the licensing company. The fee amount varies depending on how many times you plan to show it, whether or not you are charging for it, how many people you expect to attend, how new the movie is, and whether or not it is only available in theaters or if it is available for home viewing.

Disney in particular are very strict on this. Not only will their licensing companies take down movie showings, but even posters that use Disney properties. A partner school of ours were sent a cease and desist for using Pixar characters in a poster advertising some event. Even the images are closely protected.

So... that's how the show ends.

Man I always get so sad at finales, even with happy endings!

Why didn't we see more of Simone, she was my favorite new addition and I wanted to see more of what she was doing or going through.
Honestly, I'm glad they showed as many cameos as they did. I wasn't expecting them to bring back Jason's dad or Tahani's parents, for example. So many minor and recurring characters got closure in this finale. And I'm glad to see that Simone was at least acknowledged as having made it to the good place.

Also, did anyone else notice that the one rich executive guy (I forget his name) was still being tested after so many years? They showed him on a screen being told not to tell women to smile.

I noticed that they couldn't get the actress back that played Eleanor's mother, cause I see that they mentioned her but did not actually bring her onscreen when they did bring back all the other family members of characters introduced during the show.

This is what I love so much about this show. The show always manages to keep me guessing.

In the latest episode, when they kept telling Michael to sign that paperwork to be turned into a Good Place Architect, I for sure thought it was a trap to basically send him back down to the Bad Place or otherwise get rid of him due to all the trouble he had caused, and the episode would end with the group choosing to go down with him or something. Of course, it was a trap, but instead, they made him the boss of the Good Place, which I found to be hilarious. Great swerve.

IIRC there was an episode that specifically dealt with the socioeconomic divide between the friends. The three richer friends kept suggesting they go out to fancy places to eat whereas the three poorer friends kept confiding in themselves that they couldn't afford to spend so much money hanging out.

The episode eventually created a rift when the richer friends found out about their struggles and tried to help them, but it only made things more awkward as they felt they were getting handouts. But the whole thing was pretty much waived away when Monica lost her job at the end of the episode.

I can't remember which were the "rich" friends and which were the poor friends that episode, though. I think Monica, Ross, and Chandler were the ones with the money to spend while Rachel, Joey, and Phoebe were struggling to get by.

This argument is flawed from both sides.

You don't need a college degree to be successful and you but you also won't necessarily be more successful without a college degree.

The fact is, statistically speaking, that you will make more money (a lot more money) in you lifetime with a college degree than without. This is largely due to the promotion cap you would experience without a degree. More management jobs require a degree than not, so even if you find a decent paying job without a degree, at some point you are likely to hit a ceiling in management until you get at least a Bachelor's.

The problem is that people attribute this fact as a blanket fact that college = more money and uninformed college students use college as a "win" button. Then they become distressed when their college degree alone did not get them a good job.

College is just a tool to help you reach your career goals. Just like trade school can be, or a certificate program, or even a mentor helping you start a business.

Even as a college administrator I am careful telling students that college is their best choice. For many, it isn't.

I have definitely seen first-hand how families are losing motivation and morale to keep trying. For the working class, it has always been hard, but now it's getting harder because of the fears mentioned in the article. As if it isn't bad enough that they struggle to put food on the table or pay a bill, now they have to worry about their job being eliminated to a machine or to a contract employee working a gig job. I already saw that happen to my dad who was a taxi driver for 30 years before he had to quit.

Oh, I guess I didn't fully read the synopsis of the show.

Regarding the book, I just looked up the summary as well. Strange that it's not mentioned. It could be that I'm completely mixing up that story arc with one from another book I read around that time. I remember reading like 5 books that summer, lol.

The story I'm remembering is a girl that goes to a party and gets raped while drunk by one of the guys at the party, but people think she willingly slept with him so they either start to hate her or just simply ignore her. She then develops a quirky, noncomformist personality as a coping mechanism and in turn, starts to teach others about forgiveness and moving on. I guess I just remembered it as that being Stargirl. But it's entirely possible this was one of the other tween coming-of-age stories that were popular around that time.

it's wild to me that there are people on CE that are regularly submitting written works. i wouldn't know where to start, and i've been writing as a hobby since middle school.
If you want to get started, you may want to consider online magazines or periodicals in an area that interests you. The barrier to entry there is usually lower and lets you publish with a more surface-level analysis of your topic (think Forbes, Medium, or some of the smaller sites).

Academic publishing in peer-reviewed journal really just requires that you find a journal publishing articles in your field or interest, looking at their aims and scopes of what type of material they are looking for, editing your manuscript to fit their formatting requirements, and then you submit. It's much easier to start with a paper you wrote in school, as typically your instructor will have you format the paper similar to how a journal would want it. That's how I got my start in publishing. I edited some grad school papers to make it more journal appropriate and started submitting.

By the time I started submitting my own, independent research, I already had the hang of it.

But my current job just added a faculty portion to it where I get to teach an undergraduate statistics class as part of a new retention program where administrators get into the classroom to teach. I'm basing some of my newer research on that process. I'm also hoping to see if I can get my stats students to join me in a class project that we can all publish together as co-authors. Early voting states can influence an election by showing candidates who win as the "winners" all over media. It can make people think that these candidates are the national favorites and more likely to vote for them.

But this can be misleading because those two states are not representative of the larger voting body. So winning those states makes for a good media push for the candidates who win.
